hello, /k/. i have a question for the texans among you.
i live in san antonio and would like to conceal carry my revolver (specifically a .357 model 29). is it true that i can conceal carry without a permit? would the cops take issue with it? i know practically nothing about actually carrying a gun legally as i have never really needed to before now. i am above 21, i have no felonies, no violent crimes, etc. im not asking for gun advice on if i should buy a different gun for it (the answer is yes, i need a semi-auto, preferably berreta or glock rather than a fucking five pound revolver.)
>>
Texas is constitutional carry, so you can. Be upfront with cops and they will be cool about it. I'm assuming you're white. But don't be carrying a gun when you get pulled over with weed or drunk, or they'll be big mad and probably steal your gun.
>>
>>65357416
i dont drink publicly or smoke weed at all, so itll be easy to not get caught with weed or drink.
also yes, im white. like pasty, pale white.
thanks anon, i really appreciate it.
>>
>>65357401
That's a big fucking gun for cc.
>>
>>65357401
Do you mean model 27 28or 19 something like that? The 29 in a 44mag unless its some odd ball re chamberd thing

Protip: you could always take a hacksaw and cut off 3 or so inches of barrel and make it easier to carry.
>>
my big revolver was hard to conceal, was pushing up into my dick. so I took a hacksaw and cut off my dick
>>
>>65357488
yeah, its huge for cc, but its the best i can do until a couple of months down the road
>>65357503
well, its actually a 1960s reproduction of a 1930s .357 Registered Magnum. but kost people look at me like I'm retarded if i say that since its an odd weapon, so i just say its a .357 model 29.
>>65357519
im not doing that. this was my fathers.
>>65357531
Optimized.
>>
>>65357550
most people*
maybe i am retarded
>>
>>65357550
So it’s a Model 27-2 then.
>>
>>65357599
>Model 27-2
it looks like that, but it has different sights than both it and the 28. the rear sight looks the same, but the front sight is totally different.

it looks pretty much exactly like this, except its in a black finish and has polymer/rubber grips currently
>>
>>65357680
Post pics I'm curious now, get one inside the crane I wanna se model numbers.
Kinda sounds like that outdoorsmen repro I heard is in the works in 357
>>
>>65357847
i will later if this thread is still up. i hve to head to work. but i will say, its definitely from the 60s
>>
>>65357401
You can take a look at this website for some quick facts.
https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/resources/ccw_reciprocity_map/tx-gun-laws/
I think you should get a license though because they will teach you all about the laws and give you advice and probably little tips and tricks. Plus you will be covered in other states if you ever decide to travel and it will definitely look better in court if you actually blast a motherfucker.
>>
>>65361985
"Ladies and GentleXirs of the jury, the defendant went out of his way to get a license, a license to KILL. Proving intent to carry a deadly weapon"
>>
>>65362015
I see you went to the Reddit school of law and bad faith debate.
>>
>>65357401
SAPD doesn't give a fuck, you'd have to bomb an HEB or something for them to care. Granted everyone in San Antonio will want your head on a pike and your ass over the fireplace if you fuck with HEB. Also I'll echo >>65361985, there's quite a few places with signs up that explicitly ban unlicensed carry and you'd be in quite a bit of trouble without an LTC. Plus it's a massive ego boost to do an LTC class and see how everyone's groups are way worse than yours
>>
>>65362248
>65361985 (YOU)
>(ME)
>it's a massive ego boost to do an LTC class and see how everyone's groups are way worse than yours
I took my CCW class many, many moons ago with my buddy and we took a pen and paper written test. We traded papers and graded each other's to speed things up and my buddy got a guys test who scored 30/100. He was pretty clearly playing life on hard m e, and shot like shit for the practical portion, but they passed him all the same.
The CCW license is a bit of a joke, but if you have your drivers license, registration, insurance AND a CCW, the cops here are waaaaaaaay more likely to let you off with a warning if you are polite.

Guys you need armor to survive a conceal carry battle. Cuh on gunbroker is selling PROTECH POLICE SURPLUS plates for thirty a pop

>>
>>65362304
You're better off with soft armor unless you really live in a bad neighborhood.
>>
>>65362351
NTA. They need soft armor anyway (very good, normally LE-restricted IIIA) so they might be workable if you're dealing with Dracos and ARPs. Buffman RANGE's testing video was really bad.
>>
>>65362399
>if you're dealing with Dracos and ARPs
Move. Just get the fuck out of there.
I know it's easier said than done, but if you are really, genuinely concerned with that as a legitimate threat, you need to be on indeed and zillow and not safelitedegense and premierebodyarmor.
>>
Texas has constitutional carry so OP is ok, provided it is carried in a holster. But, a Texas LTC also can be used when you buy a gun from a FFL, and you skip the NICS check that way. Just fill out the 4473, pay, and you take the gun with you immediately.
>>
>>65362466
If you can't because of finances, or the hood moves to you?
>>
>>65362639
I mean, yeah, but there is at least a bit of an IQ filter there.
I'm 3rd generation running away from my childhood neighborhood and 6th generation American.
>>
>>65357550
>im not doing that. this was my fathers.
you must be prepared to lose your CCW piece to a police evidence locker
>>
>>65362769
Well part of the problem is that, genuinely, the hood is much better armed than it was in the 1980s and trap houses can be anywhere, thanks to the power of vouchers.
You've got ARPs, Dracos, 12 gauge turkshit AR12s, if push comes to shove they have plates in reserve and breaching tools. It's common for gangbangers to go into the Marines and then get out so they can train other dudes.
Generally the plan is multifaceted:
1. Do not make yourself a target.
2. Watch your surroundings, don't flaunt wealth.
3. Reinforce doors with longer screws, security bar doors, kick plate kits, also add 3M security film to all windows.
4. Cameras. Run two kinds. One that is wired and powered by a battery backup, other that is also wired but records to an offsite cloud in case onsite gets destroyed.

You can move but they can move faster unless you're going into deep Appalachia or somewhere else where people still disappear.
>>
>>65362769
And also, you do NOT have enough time with most houses to get up out of bed at 2:00 AM and put on a PC / helmet if your door gets blown open and they bumrush your bedroom. That is unless they get confused by the layout, are distracted by something else, or get stalled by locked interior doors.
A lot of people are looking into ballistic shield + handgun getups for that reason. More coverage, faster to grab, only downside of a shield is that they weigh a lot, are clunky to negotiate doors with, and can get heavy if you want reliable rifle protection.
>>
>>65363031
Loaded shotgun leaning against the wall. You don't have to know how to aim, the dude is gonna be like 8 feet away. You don't need a light or a bayonet.

He's just quoting what commie prosecutors say all the time in these cases. That caliber was too big? Proves you were an unstable psychopath looking for trouble. Your holster is too cool? Proves you were an unstable psychopath looking for trouble. Your gun is practical? Proves you were an unstable psychopath looking for trouble. Your gun is classic and fun? Proves you were an unstable psychopath looking for trouble. They will also flag the entire court with your gun in hopes of reminding them guns are scary, try to get a witness to lie, and whatever else it takes to try to get you.

op here, i actually got banned off of the range i went to yesterday because i was telling the friend i went with that .357s like mine were developed because of cops needing to punch through body armor and .38spcl wasnt cutting it at the time. the retard RSO (who i can only assume is a former cop, because he had on a tshirt for the sheriffs department of medina county) said that i was wrong and am too stupid to own a gun, to which i said that his fatass can look it up. he kicked me out and threatened to call the atf on me. so yknow. that guy isnt completely wrong.
>>65357847
i havent forgotten you, just came back to this thread. there are three model numbers. one on the crane, one on the buttom of the handle which is usually covered by the grips, and one on the inside of the frame, on the bottom of the barrel. no pics, because im a lazy fuck and cant be bothered to get up. i dont know if these are model numbers or serials or what, but ive never seen anything like it.
>>65362015
i think if i ever got into an altercation involving my gun, theyd say that anyway, same as with anyon else. yknow, turn the red state blue or whatever gay bullshit
screenie is for proof that i am actually OP
>>
>>65364108
not on the bottom of the barrel, i meant to type where the bottom of the cylinder would be. sorry, tired.
>>
>>65357401
As a fellow TXfag, I’d recommend getting an LTC, it’ll help you out in court. Also don’t carry a gun you’re not prepared to potentially lose forever after police take it, choose something besides your Pop’s gun
>>
>>65364144
sound advice. thanks, anon. i appreciate it
>>
>>65364108
>because i was telling the friend i went with that .357s like mine were developed because of cops needing to punch through body armor
Homes .357 Magnum is stopped by any by the book Level II panel. This armor must be 1935 stuff and would have been before Elmer's time.
>>
>>65364150
yeah, the .357 magnum round and guns for it came out in the 30s for body armor (or what passed as body armor) for the time. what did you think i was saying???
>>
>>65363024
Man, IDK where you live or who you expect to be coming after you, but you need some lifestyle changes.
>>
>>65362015
Why, yes, my client does hold a valid license to kill issued by this very state. I move that this case be dismissed on the grounds that he was operating under the laws governing this court.
>>
>>65362015
Having a license will count in your favor actually but broadly the persecutor is going to try and make you look bad no matter what

>>65364158
I was saying you probably made fudd insecure by referencing info only his daddy should have known, unless fudd is like 102 years old.

Fpbp

One time years ago I got pulled over while white in Arizona for not having my headlights on. Dude asked me if I had any guns, and I had about seven in the backseat. He asked are they all in the backseat and unloaded and I said yeah and then he just told me to turn my headlights on and left.

Red states are pretty fucking great, which is why everyone moves there.

oh, then yes, i agree. thats how most older folks in texas seem to be, though. point out something they are wrong about and they immediately get super mega asshurt. id move, but everywhere else kinda sucks too.

>hello, /k/. i have a question for the texans among you. I live in san antonio and would like to conceal carry my revolver (specifically a .357 model 29). is it true that i can conceal carry without a permit?

I'm a Californian, and even I found what you need to do in Texas via the internet.

https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/handgun-licensing/ltc-benefits
>>
>>65371603
under texas law, you dont need an LTC. it helps, certainly, but it isnt necessary. dumbass californian
>>
Be careful. Texas has some weird law about guns not in holsters and open carry. They just arrested a NBA player about that in Houston.
>>
OP if your gun has a checkered top strap it is a Model 27, if not it is a Model 28; unless you are stupid and it is a k-frame and therefore a Model 19;; unless you are double stupid and it isn't from the 60's. Does it have a frame screw right next to the rear sight? Is there a screw in the front of the trigger guard?

The Registered Magnum, S&W .357 Magnum, and Model 27 are all names applied in different time periods for the same line of N-Frame .357s in continuous production (except for the war) and undergoing incremental changes
