It was designed from the onset to be able to handle rough sea beach landings at sea state 3 IIRC and to have an organic protection from mines benched against heavy MRAPs so that means a very high V hull with dense armor at the bottom both for protection and sea/road stability. These are marketed to the Korean military but the N-WAV was originally developed to market to Latin America as a wheeled lighter alternative to heavier more expensive tracked IFVs based on a COTS K808 but made bigger and can deal with mountains, swamps, flood zones and jungles. Looks kind of funny but it's good engineering. It's about 40 tons which is very heavy for a wheeled vehicle but still light for a vehicle it's size and has well dispersed ground pressure.

>>65369824It's a Leopard 2A4 with modular MEXAS armor panels and thermal covers. They're not an end all but were pretty effective at stopping the Soviet slop rockets in service with rivals. The new plan is to put new Turkish Altay based turrets on these and start to put those into auxiliary duty by 2032 and replace front line tanks with locally assembled next gen Leopard derivatives. Whether that is KNDS or Rheinmetall variants is a mystery. Some think they might even go for the next tranche of the Altay that has a semi-unmanned turret but I think that's just conjecture. I personally think it will be some Frankenstein Rheinmetall "not a Leopard" hull built under license mated to an imported French Ascalon turret since the Germans are bitchy about exporting long range munitions to LATAM but the French don't care.

Peru held tank trials a decade and a half ago. They tested a VT4 with the 6TD engine which came in below the K2, Abrams, T84 and Leopard 2A6, but above the Leopard 2A4 and T90. The problem was the Chinese bribed politicians to try to select the Chinese tank even though the army trial said the K2 was the best choice and the T84 (with bustle and French tech) was the best realistic choice given the budget. The Chinese ended up tacking on so many bullshit fees that it ended up more expensive than even the Abrams or K2 so the whole thing was cancelled. The Chinese also tried scamming Peru into a debt trap where only Chinese techs and engineers could even touch or service the tanks and they had a variable pay rate and billing system. Pure bullshit. After the cancellation the Chinese even refused to take the demo models back and tried to charge Peru for the units sent for examination and said Peru would have to pay to ship them back. Legit Temu scam arms deal. Meanwhile the K2 has fallen in price due to economies of scale and they offer very cost effective training, onboarding and even local assembly with export licensing as an option. The Chinese choice would be exceptionally retarded.

The T90 was disqualified because the French blocked the sale of parts on that spec and the Russians hoped to bankroll their own development of equivalents based on export financing and the army correctly predicted turret toss if top attack ATGM were used.The Chinse tank was discarded due to the bribing scandal. The Chinese had already said they would offer a VT4/MBT2000 fusion model offering basically an MBT-2000 but with turret/tech from the Type99/VT4. This would have likely just been equipped with the underwhelming Chinese CV12 clone.Ukraine had no problem selling the 6TD to Peru, but they wouldn't sell it in a Chinese vehicle when their own 6TD equipped vehicle, the T84 was also competing. The Ukrainians were also offering the 5TD equipped Tifon T55 upgrade to Peru at the time too.
