Is there a proper defense againts zerg rushing historically?

Be human waves of commie soldiers or now cheap drone shahar shit?

Machine guns, artillery, CAS, and drones are the current meta. Previously, it was also artillery, archers, burning oil, and diarrhea/dysentery.

Defence in depth
>>
Being on a hill. Also preparing defenses in advance. Good officers are really important at directing the defense both before and during.

And what happens if your defense ammo cost 15 million per round and your country can only produce 50 per year and the enemy can make 50 drones per day?
>>
Well, we don't know the enemy beyond that there's a relatively abundance of them and they're going to just run at you.
We don't have a fucking clue what our own forces are.
And we don't know anything about what geography all of this will be taking place in.

So congratulations, you're as utterly clueless as whoever Sun Tzu wrote The Art of War for, and as for your actual question we can't really answer without knowing, in good detail, the thee things I just mentioned. Fuck, as things stand we don't even know if you're looking at the tactical, operational, or strategic level, and let's face it, you don't know that either because it's only as you read this that it occurs to you to think about it.
But for a start, try to look up historical zerg rushes. Depending on what exactly your definition of that is there may not have been all that many of them. Turns out herding a large group of poorly trained soldiers towards the enemy before the food runs out and they starve or the money runs out and they mutiny can be pretty fucking difficult.

You resort to terror bombing your enemy who has a nonexistent air defense network, much like Israel and America have.
It's like this whole thread is a distraction from Ukraine being the only competent nation fighting Iran.

Fucking up logistics. If they have 10000 men then they need food for that many, transport, gear and such. If you go for quantity over quality you end up needing big logistics. If your 5 shitty tanks equal 1 good tank you still need 5 times the fuel, maintenance, ammo and crew. Kinda why quality usually beats quantity. A million drones you also don't magically pull out of your ass, there is a large support element you can fuck with.
>>
>>65371995
yeah, typically you need to do anything except a commander center first build or a wall at your natural. even a wall at the natural can be defensible if they're not in a close-spawn location and if you have good micro.
building an 8barracks (not in the center of the map), a bunker, or just holding well in the main works well enough vs a 4pool.

Volley fire and canister if they're in close, niggers love a volley that's why they showed up. Cavalry and Dragoons can also be extremely dangerous to flanks and wut wut in the butt actions.
After that, machinegun and shrapnel shells, tanks and armoured cars are not much fun for light infantry without organic anti-armour or arty on hand. Canister never went away either for direct fire
Now we're mostly into machineguns, autocannons, attack aircraft for quick responses, still got shrapnel artillery and tube launched stuff which has canister and cluster munitions, also some fun things like air dispersed anti-personnel mines

>historically
Fortifications and missile weaponry or firearms when your enemy lacks such things. Basically see Rorke's drift. Additionally, numerical superiority becomes a liability when your supply lines are vulnerable, as greater numbers demand greater logistical capacity to keep them supplied, which presents a bigger target.

>modern
Air power, space power (i.e. satellites), machine guns, artillery, armour, and as boring and ghey as they are, drones. Logistics being more important than ever in modern warfare means attacking enemy supply capacity is more efficacious.

Why do thirdies never consider you that you can blow up factories?
>>
>>65372011
you find cheaper ways of shooting down the incoming munitions
To take your example: if the enemy is deploying cheap drones en masse then a good solution is to respond with similar mass in cheap interceptor drones - we see this happening already in Ukraine and the same technology is rapidly proliferating across Europe and the middle east.

The factory was always there, there is no comprehension of the factory not being there tomorrow until there is no factory there in which case there was never a factory

I'd add shattering morale.

Shock and awe is expensive but it certainly worked in the Gulf War and we have plenty of modern examples of armies being routed.
>>
>>65372011
In that case you build the drones yourself and drone the enemy drone supply before they can drone you.
Realistically, drone intercept drones will be of similar cost or cheaper than attack drones (lower range necessary) so I don't really see the problem. Of course, assuming somewhat equal means to bomb logistics, the attacker can amass drones and overwhelm a given area, but an elastic defense that exploits the weakness of the attacker in other areas can deal with that.
>>
>>65372011
We can always start firebombing you, Achmed. Perhaps we should revitalize that American tradition.

Volume of fire.

>I'd add shattering morale.
>Shock and awe
The Chinese invented a daisy cutter type rocket for fighting the Mongols at one point. It would launch from a city's walls and blow a 1000' hole in the approaching horde. Still didn't stop the Yuan.

The M1917 Browning, a massive pile of belted ammo, and many many gallons of water.

Mama Browning will see you through.

Fill the air with so much fucking lead it turns dark
>>
>>65372011
You start using defense ammo that costs three orders of magnitude less than the drones.

The Zerg Rush became obsolete when repeating rifles were adopted and became just straight up suicidal and retarded the second that machine guns were invented

Its more the case of Thirdies don't have Object Permanence as part of their neural development
Like if we hide a banana under a Box A next to Box B, the thirdy will now know its under A and get their banana. But if in some point in the future we move the banana under Box B, the thirdy will open up box A expecting a banana, they don't have the connection that the banana could be anywhere else, nor can they comprehend that the banana is likely to be anywhere else. This A-not-B error is trained into them, accept that there is no banana unless instructed that it is now under Box B.

They may also check under Box A out of habit, or beat the shit out of someone else with a banana they want. We can also apply this from anything from the Banana to the Moscova-
If the Moscova was out on the Black Sea (A) like instructed by officials, the Thirdy disregards all evidence that it was blown to shit and sunk, because while it might not currently be seen, they were told it Returned to Port (B) the thirdy can just accept its under Box B now and doesn't have to look under Box A for the missing battlecruiser

You are now educated in part on how the thirdy brain 'works'
