What is the actual deal with these? They're "one of the most popular handguns in the United States". Yet they're banned at a lot of ranges and classes. They're for sale everywhere, still. But they're widely regarded as unsafe by experts and amateurs alike. Does this seem like a strange situation to anyone else? This isn't like a car where you bought a lemon and you have to cope, it's a gun, no offense to people who don't make a ton of money but it's not a lot of money, just toss it and get something safer, no? I can't think of a similar situation in recent memory where a consumer product turned out to be dangerous and people just kind of shrugged and kept using them.

Loss leader and sunk cost. Sig got a bunch of PDs to buy them by discounting them to a loss, even less than the reported bulk price because the packages includes several mags and new holsters. When issues arise, replacing them is simply too expensive.

Even the diehard midwit Youtubers who tried to defend the P320 have largely conceded. The only people still defending it are the kind of people who literally cannot understand the engineering on any level at all, "320's don't go off" t. SIG is what their brain can comprehend. It also fits with their ideal worldview: the gun they paid too much for and will only be able to resell for pennies IS NOT at random chance of blowing their balls off daily. Also just anecdotally if you go in a youtube comments section about 320s, particularly on SIG's channel and look who's ardently defending them, it's always either barely literate white trash or dumbass beaners. If you ask them if they've done literally any research, or even watched one of the many videos of them going off, the answer is no, they read the SIG press release and then made a comment on YouTube to defend their purchase to themselves. Kind of interesting to think the freestanding comments themselves indicate there's likely some subconscious paranoia regardless.

The complete kit the military buys includes a ton of stuff including a red dot and holster and is like $350. Meanwhile the same one for civilians was $900+ iirc, looks like they aren't available anymore. Very interesting the knowing has gotten so widespread that SIG can't even sell clones of the current US mil service pistol. They made ridiculous money by selling "great" guns at low prices at the caveat of multiple design flaws they didn't catch until they reached too widespread of distribution for a recall to be anything other than financially catastrophic. This only has snowballed as time has passed and proliferation has continued. I'm pretty sure we're going to see a "sabotage of the M16A1" level inquisition when this finally hits the public over the adoption of the tangibly flawed XM7 program and outright dangerous P320. Never before have we seen such preference for two incredibly flawed small arms from the same company. Personally I'm just dying to know how they did it. What convinced everyone to adopt it and then stick with it through it's many problems? SIG has ludicrous pull too if you look into it. Militaries and police forces have had 320 incidents that they were able to prove were the gun's fault, moved to replace the whole thing and then suddenly quietly dropped that intention with no remedy. Ron has access to the best coke and whores on earth or something.
>>65372043It won't change unless the US government rescinds their contract with Sig, which realistically would likely send the company into bankruptcy. That's a bad look for both parties. They'll chalk it up to teething issues. Even the early M9 had problems that had to be addressed by Beretta. Also you fail to take into consideration how many fanboys of Sig there are and how many small retailers there are who have hitched their wagon to Sig as authorized dealers. That's big money invested in seeing them succeed. Walking away isn't an option for them.
