>He's still using a magic staff
Fact: wands are superior weapons. Besides their ease of concealment and carry, the mana channeling difference you get for staves is logarithmic, not exponential, so the difference between a 6 foot staff and a 14-inch wand of the same material is approximately 35%. It's just not worth it, not even for barrier-busting. And then on top of that, wands have much more precision thanks to their smaller size, so you're going to be more accurate anyway.

Don't get me wrong, staves are obviously impressive-looking and great for ceremonies, but as weapons, wands are where it's at.
>>
>>65372373
Good luck conjuring a rain of meteors with that frilly little wand of yours.
>>
But you can use a staff to beat somebody to death with it if magic doesn't work
>>
>>65372373
Next time, just say you were fleeced Wulfric's Discount Wands.
>>
>>65372373
Your average mage would cut their dick off for a 35% improvement to their mana channeling.

Precision of wands is also a bit of a joke. Wands aren't precise. They are intuitive - point and click. Any apprentice can be passably accurate with one. But once you learn how to aim with a staff, their greater length and ease of being stabilized with your body or the ground grants them infinitely more long range capability than a wand. Not to mention that long range casting heavily relies on well shaped mana flows, and the average staff's larger head just does that better.

Don't get me wrong, wands are excellent concealed carry, and for anything that doesn't require a direct contest for wills, large area effect or long range slinging the extra mana throw weight is pretty marginal, but when it matters dear gods does it matter.

Keep a wand for when you are fetching supplies from a town or strolling around in your mage tower, but if things are serious then it isn't worth risking your life because you are too lazy or cheap to carry a bigger stick of wood. Even if you are poor, a staff made of a slightly inferior material will still beat a wand where it matters and cost less to boot. There is a reason why the staff is the symbol of the battle mage.

The more interesting discussion is staff vs portable orb based casting, but that discussion gets really autistic really quick.
>>
>>65372403
Nigga really dropped 500 gold on one of those shitty “fast cast” wands made from cheap poplar wood and is trying to convince himself he didn’t get scammed.
>>65372373
That thing’s going to break or rot away in like 4 years bro, you wasted your money, if you’re going to buy a shitty little wand for girls at least get one made from oak or hornbeam.
>>
Of course OP has a compliant staff.
>>
>>65372408
You will never aim as well with a staff as a wand, they're not like guns at all, you cannot line one up with your reye.
>>

>>
>>65372373
>no spell recursion or warping
>can't condition mana or adjust mana flows
>spell pathway is pre-formed, so user's only input is channeling their body's mana
>the earring replacement for the deeply autistic
>the staff replacement for cripples and wannabes

All of the best spells for effective defense (or offense) rely on features wands don't have. If you're willing to sacrifice those, you should go all in and get some properly made earrings (Taille, Wynn-Checker, Bounn, etc.), or get a dust locket for effect and accept you'll be skipping meals if a fight ever does break out.

Wand - thin, dainty short (1 foot max) implement meant to be gently held between the fingers by women and faggots
Staff - long (up to 6 feet), thick, manly focusing tool that respected archmages firmly grasp with their entire hand. Also useful as a bludgeoning tool
Rod - same tasteful thickness and manly energy as a staff, but shorter (max 2 feet)

Hope this helps

To be fair, pound for pound, you don't even need a wand or staff. Just bare handed an amplify damage and corpse explosion chain will wipe out an enemy army faster than virtually anything else, it's just slow getting that first corpse.

Gray, big fuckin hood (if you don'trock a wide brim), long enough to cover to the ground but not so long it snags on shit, voluminous with lots of pockets. why are those shitty autorepeating fireball spells so popular with the ghettowizards and where do they keep getting the tomes to learn it?
I thought they were outlawed by the elders for being too unpredictable
I swear its every other day I go to ponder my orb and half the spacial projections are some hoodwizard or other popping a potion of extra mana and casting blindly at some poor shrub
half the time they dont even hit the shrub, dare I say they couldnt hit the broad side of some poor farmers barn
I suspect it has to do with them always holding their wands tilted to the side for some reason, has no one taught them that the pointy end of the wand is what channels your mana in the direction you want it to go?
also, lately Ive been seeing a lot water purification tomes in the bazaar, but upon checking them over, the sigils within appear to be more akin to spells for silent casting, and the merchants selling these look strangely similar to some of the paladins the local guild employs

But you couldnt, you didnt, and now youre paying the price, you goddamn fool. I will cast 'Hindustani Shower' all over you and you will drown in it. Youre fucking dead, kiddo.

Ever since I learned you can imbue firearms with magic. It's been a no brainer for me. I can spread necrosis to my enemies like no one's business! It's compact and concealable.
>>

I mean, yeah.
But that’s a good way to have the Guild of Alchemy, Thaumaturgy, and Fortunetelling to bust in the door to your tower and kill your pet druid. And nobody wants that.

conceal where? Your wizard robes? Everybody knows you have it dumbass, just carry the walking stick.

It's bullshit, you have magic bows, staffs, swords or whatever the fuck but when I want to use something actually practical then it's a problem! People have imbuing magic into weapons like bows, staffs, swords for YEARS.

It's the same exact game with graphical updates. They have done some minor patch updates since, and then there is an expansion with a new class and some more end game content, but not too much changed.

The only breakpoint they fucked with was nerfing whirlwind more (because FUCK melee post 1.10). They decided to let you use off-weapon IAS for whirlwind, but then upped the breakpoints to make it worse.

I'd actually say too little changed because they did a huge overhaul a few years in with 1.10 and obviously didn't play test it because everyone was moved to WoW, and the balance was absolutely horrendous and basically made every class but the sorceress (and a few other builds sort of) almost like unlockable extras, because they played like shit without gear that took endless loot slot runs.

Balance wasn't great in the original Diablo or D2 classic and early LOD, but is pretty shit in how the game ended up. Still great though.

Druid is still trash too. They did enable some game breaking D3 runeword to make the martial arts assassin not only good but the best for a short period but then got rid of it so that it is unplayable again.

Pfft, if the wardens catch you with a wand you'll be sorry. Nobody bats an eye as I walk down the street with my trusty 72 inch Lightning staff+2. I need it for my disability after all.

Magicless peasants love to mock Spell Tek on discussion scrolls, but actual Magic Doers know they're one of the only wand or staff enchanters out there who are actually pushing magic use forward with innovation instead of just blindly copying what every other spellhouse craps out.

Thoughts on insta-cast magic scrolls?

Seems like the perfect murder weapon for any no-good Samuel Fisherman assassin.

>if all you can cast is "whatever I scribbled on the back of this napkin 5 years ago" good luck trying to survive Wizard War III with just a handfull of spells, at best
Ask any wizard on the front lines of a war RIGHT NOW ans all of them will show you the most raggedy spellbook you've ever seen. Hint : there were wizards with dragonskin tomes and they didn't last a fucking minute. And if you need to add a page you bet your ass they're going to scribble it on a napkin and not wait 2-4 weeks for the dragonskin to be delivered. In a war you pick the most cost effective.

>muh BVR casting
BVR casting is a fucking joke. The components for wringing someone's neck at 60km are a hundred times more expensive than a fireball and the casting time takes forever even with a team of sages.
Anyone who's been doing actual divination on Wizard Wars III knows that as soon as SHTF the most used spells are fireball, poison cloud, and fucking Magic Missile.
Peacetime magic schools have made you all retarded.

ok the wand vs staff debate is stupid. everyone knows the only real power comes from organized resistance. wizards helping wizards, preferably while standing in formation atop a wizard's tower (which is just a really really really big staff in magical theory)

if you'd actually been keeping up with the conflict between the wizards of kivy and the eastern orc hordes you'd know that they mainly rely on summoning fire elementals, because their semi-autonomous nature allows them to target the weak spots on top of and at the back of the orc's war wagons

my uncle at Anduril heard a pretty credible rumor that Magic Missile is receiving export controls and might even be banned. current casters would be grandfathered in. can't have Persians casting that shit at freedom-loving apple-pie-eating good guys with a wand.
