Best infantry rifle ever built
Except for the part where you have to carry the 5kg musket for a week in the bush.
>>65378668As it should be
>>65378668Actually didn't know it's heavier than the FAL despite being only about M16 length. I only have experience with FALs
>>65378654>20 rounds>no last round hold open >shitty ergos>awkward for optics without modification>heavy, spongy triggerIt's a good rifle, and it gets the job done, but it's far from perfect. It looks the bee's knees though, and that's what really matters.
>>65378654>60 years agoBut the AR-15 was designed 70 years ago.
>>65378703Eh sure it's not gonna have modern features but it perfected the concept of "the gun" if you know what I'm saying.Long rifle, utilitarian design, bullets that cover most scenarios, all the fire modes you'd need, even comes with a bipod. Simple and effective.Truly the apex of what a caveman would envision if you told him about guns.
>>65378722checked, also for the time HK had a modular system of integral components attachments and accessories (that have been 'superseded' by more recent mass adoptions and small-arm developments but took the same original idea)All modern mil small arms follow this modularity pattern, today

>>65378662every time i've held one with that style of handguard, i thought "holy shit this feels absolutely horrible"i have no idea why, but its repulsive to me, and i wonder if others feel the same
Like many guns it retains it's value because as surplus it's re-deployed, it never really filled it's primary role. And that's largely a feature of it's caliber.Today it's a poor mans support rifle, instead of a patrol rifle. And that's just because it's the cheapest rifle which can accept large capacity mags in a battle rifle caliber. these guns are WAY cheaper then mos people appreciate, in the war market it's worth as much as an AK, generally passed over because of ammo comparability.
>>65378654>>tfw you realize the gun was perfected 60 years ago>tfw you have never forotten you didn't have $500 40rs ago
>>65378654The Pakis attempted to modernise it but it's just a shitbox. Too bulky it's mediocre for a battle rifle. The recoil is too much although comparitively far more stable. It's sad that the turks didn't try to modernise the hk33 and hk53 to make a more modernised version instead of copying the Germans and produce a trashier hk416
>no LRBHO>big fucking slot on the side of the gun to let in sand>farts soot all over the inside of the receiver and magazine with every single shot fired>German milspec triggers were comically shitty because of drop-safety autism at the expense of the shooter They're cool and all, and they have their history, but the FAL was just a better 7.62x51mm infantry rifle.
>>65378654>heavy as fuck>more recoil than FALs or ARs>awkward as fuck rifle, too short stock, safety way the fuck up in the stratosphere, charging handle just slapped somewhere, everything requires shifting your hands around and >awkward scope mounting with retarded high offset>fucking too short stock is now too low as well>charging handle smacks into said scope
>>65379590b-b-but muh heckin H&K-slap!
>>65379595yeah yeah yeahjust get an mp5
I back to backed the G3 and FAL at the range a few years back, G3 definitely came out the winner. Great rifles, easily my favorite real fuckin' NATO rifle.
If you're shooting in the prone, you need to run the charging handle every time you run through a magazine. Not a problem if you're on a squad with a dozen other guys, but if you're in a smaller group trying not to get pinned down, you might need those two extra seconds. Also if you want to try to hit stuff further away, you're going to want a trigger job. In the USA in 2026, just buy the Timney Trigger for HKs.
>>65379669>>65378703>>65379579>MUH TRIGGER MUH TRIGGERhow much of weak fingered FAGGOT are you people?"uhhh, this trigger is more than 1.5 lbs, I cant hit the broadside of a barn now"fucking olympic shooting guns all have the shittiest weird spongey creepy triggers and people shoot 2 inch groups at 25 yards with it
>>65379702The G3 system is capable of 2 or 3 MOA. It isn't a pistol you're shooting at 25m.I'm not an Olympian. But biathlon *rifles* have a minimum weight of 500g (1.1 pounds). If you never want to shoot at more than 200 meters and are happy with the stock trigger, stick with it.
>>65379779Edit: minimum trigger weight of 500g or 1.1 pounds
>>65379669>>65379779>Also if you want to try to hit stuff further away, you're going to want a trigger job.Wtf no, learn how to shoot, I take mine to 600yds with irons and a stock trigger all the time, same with my FAL.
>>65378668>>65378662>>65378654I come from a country where these were still commonly issued service rifles until recently and everybody hated them without exception. Heavy, clunky, inaccurate.

>>65378654They look very cool but after having used one for a bit they get very heavy and not just the skinny handguard gets super warm after shooting, but mostly the trunnion area gets super hot which isn't pleasant. And by hot I mean almost suppressor levels of hot. On top of that the gun is basically a direct blowback 308 with extra steps which is both cool and dumb, it certainly makes putting it back together a pain, can't tell you how many times I stabbed myself with the firing pin trying to reassemble the bolt
>>65379806That’s because you’re from a shithole with no firearms tradition and probably a bunch of dumb conscript that blame the rifle for them themselves sucking.

>>65379868>Boy scout baby thinks getting raped by a sweaty old pedo in the woods is military experienceLiterally the original larp, you're a sad fake joke, but I'm sorry you got raped. Honestly that gives you and conscripts something to bond over!
>>65379873You’re projecting more than an IMax nigger, should start selling tickets so people can watch you in real time.
>>65379702>unironically defending the MUH DROP SAFETY milspec trigger which actually holds the G3 back from its genuinely good inherent accuracy potentialSad!
>>65379827What an embarrassing cope.
>>65379827Faggot, Bundeswehr G3 rifles had goddamn +12lbs triggers, that's completely ridiculous dogshit for a rifle, and this was so bad that the G3SG/1 does not have this same heavy trigger, because through German autism, they were still forced to recognize that this gets in the fucking way of basic precision. The G3 doesn't have this trigger because it's actually good and serves it as a frontline combat weapon, it has this trigger because some faggot Safety Sally thought excessive drop-safety was far more important than anything else, and they had zero trust or respect for the German soldier (if not outright contempt). You will see this same demented logic in later German police service pistols, and you will also see it in some American police departments, like the NYPD.
>>65379806I second this, it was the least enjoyable firearm i touched during my service. Galil was a much more pleasant rifle to use.
>>65379806Same. No issues wit accuracy, but they are long, clunky and a pain to clean. G36/AR15 any day over it.

>>65378703damn, sounds like all these problems are solved by just having an AR-10 instead.
>>65378668>BRfags>Actually carrying their riflesWhoa partner, reel it in there!
Battle rifle chuds really are the rifle equivalent of revolver CCers. Loud, contrarian, obnoxious, not content with just preferring/liking it and have to insist it's the best thing ever.
>>65381188An infantry rifle or semi-automatic service pistol should NOT have a single-action trigger akin to a DAO revolver, that is completely unnecessary and retarded.
>>65382211I can imagine for some people, they are using shot out rifles where the accuracy is no longer there, but that's not quite the rifle's fault.
>>65383401People said the same for Beretta m9 that were never serviced in service. If that was true we wouldn't have the sig wunder weapons we have now.
>>65382180This. I've been shooting a PTR for years. The ergos are retarded (safety is annoying, no BHO, charging handle can be clunky unless you replace the actual handle part), its heavy as fuck (and I say this as a roided up monster retard), and being a BR it's a cannon which outside of a DMR role (which it struggles with factory-made due to meh-tier accuracy) makes shooting less efficient than with an intermediate cartridge. Ammo is kind of expensive in the US. Mounting shit isnt that hard you just jeep to be creative or buy a new handguard. If you want optics you should get the newer versions with the rail, however I sold mine so I could buy the exact same rifle WITHOUT the rail because rails are GAY and lights and lasers and vfg's are FOR PUSSIES. Cold war battle rifles are fundamentally out-dated by definition and I think if you get one it should be exclusively for the vibe and because it is incredibly fun to shoot.
>>65383816>its heavy as fuck (and I say this as a roided up monster retard)Sonny you should have trained for some functional strength instead instead of wasting your time on the curl machine. Back in my days we used to pitch hay all summer and did triathlons with our rifles on our back. And none of that nonsense creatinine just raw milk. By the way the HnK safety you use it from low ready to blast those GDR goons when cold wars suddenly get hot, but that's lost on a bench rest princess like you

>>65378703>>no last round hold openwhy is this so important to people? half the world doesn't have an issue with this. ie AK users. the bolt hold open thing is a speed up from a reload aspect but watch most combat footage the speed reload doesn't seem to be a constant thing for rifles. if you are standing in the open to reload fast or not you're a fucking idiot, get behind some shit. bho is important if you're making videos
>>65380908laying down it puts you up a bit too high, but....the 40 rounders are retarded but i feel like they are gunshow silliness like 30 round 1911 mags that are just long steel sticks shit.
>>65388491>why is this so important to peopleAside from the obvious, every single reload necessitates the use of a charging handle, this combined with the fact the CH is located all the way near the muzzle and kind of a bitch to operate if you're a wristlet doesn't do much to endear the rifle to first timers.
>>65388491>>65388528For people who haven't held one before; the CH is folded forward "out of the way" when not in use.In order to flip it to the charging position, you need to overcome the resistance of the rollers that delay the bolt (the rest is easy because the remainder of the way you only need to overcome the recoil spring). This makes it surprisingly hard to operate and I personally had to work it for multiple people I took to the range who were literally physically incapable of moving it.
>>65379806>>65380241>>65380330Same. Aside from the foot marches and ~10% of my company being absolute feral apes, having to carry a G3 around was probably the least enjoyable aspect of my service. >>65388491> half the world doesn't have an issue with this. ie AK users. The AK's charging handle situation isn't anywhere near as fucked as the G3's.

>>65388491>why is this so important to people? Because it's convenient and speeds up your reload.IMO, it's even less that, because the G3 has a clunkier reload than an AK, you can't insert a full mag on a closed bolt and just rack the bolt back back (and let it home), you need to lock the bolt open (manually), drop your mag, insert a new mag, then slap the bolt back home. This is literally a step back from the otherwise much worse Stg-44, and Stg-45(m) which it stems from.>half the world doesn't have an issue with this. ie AK users.Oh wow, the impoverished backwater militias rocking antiquated Combloc shit tell themselves that they're doing fine with what they have? That's such a strong argument, I bet that's why manual rifles with magazine cutoffs were actually perfectly fine in WW1 after all.
>>65388491>if you are standing in the open to reload fast or not you're a fucking idiot, get behind some shit. bho is important if you're making videosRidiculous and embarrassing cope, you must be from one of these impoverished third world nations. I bet you're still even using dogshit old 7.62x39mm. It's still better to reload faster even when taking cover, you mongoloid retard.>>65388551Also, you get a huge slot in the side where sand likes to get in and seize up the gun.>>65388553They ARE filthy fucking guns, just absolute pigs.>>65388659>It's a gun made for White men.Like the M16 and FAL, which are much better? White countries still using G3s have them on rear echelon duty because they are old and inferior, or they are so impoverished/militarily underfunded that they just can't afford to upgrade from their worn out Cold War era arsenal, and then the others are using them because they're some African shithole and they have some old G3 variants to fill up their motley ranks of military aid and captures.

>>65388294Was going to leave it as is, except to get that soldered on ban era muzzle brake off and put on a stoll device. But apparently whoever soldered on my brake in DSA decades ago, went overboard and I opted to just cut the barrel down to a 17" configuration. So maybe I'll get a railed cover, or even a para kit.
>>65388551>In order to flip it to the charging position, you need to overcome the resistance of the rollers that delay the boltThat sounds a bit poorly designed compared to the folding L1A1 handle
>>65379806every veteran i have met that was in the norwegian army when it was issued loved it
>>65389751It's intentionally designed that way. There's a curved surface on the part of charging handle that's inside the cocking tube, it works as a cam to push the bolt the first tenth of an inch or so back with big leverage to "unstick" the bolt and push the rollers in. If it wasn't there and you were just pulling straight back it would have been even more difficult to open the bolt. That's why the SL7 and SL8 hunting rifles also have a flip-out handle. Apparently it's not an issue with an MP5 that has different angle that the rollers rest against and therefore less resistance. My experience with my friend's G3 is that folding out the charging handle is not overly stiff, but the handle is very far forward and tends to bind in the groove if you don't do the fold-out-and-pull movement just right. Strangely, it does not bind when you snap the sling carabiner into the hole in the charging handle and use the sling to pull it, so the solution to the binding problem was to tie a braided paracord pull tab to the hole and grab that to charge the gun. With my L1A1 the charging handle is easy to unfold but the initial movement of the bolt is sometimes really heavy, esp. when the hammer was dropped. Some say that's a feature of the tilting bolt design but I doubtr that since my SKS doesn't behave the same way... Maybe it's just a character-building feature added to the L1A1.
>>65390015That's really nothing inherent to tilting bolts, no, you're entirely correct about that.
>>65378654I like my PTR 91, but i think the AR-15 surpasses it in every way, and the AK in most ways.I do think the MP5 is the best SMG ever made, though.

>>65402134>IIRC the 10s would beat themselves to death very quicklyIt has a recoil buffer to prevent that. It cannot possibly be worse than a HK53 in that regard.
>>65402134>wore them out fast>especially when fed the hot stuffYep. That's why MP5/40 mogs the 10For a 'real' MP5/10 (same principle as for most of the boutique 10 mm handguns) the firearm needs to be highly reinforced and built up in its basic engineering design. Not that HK didn't 'do a good job' with the MP5/10, merely that for long term continuous use of that caliber in the weapon it needed to be built into something beyond an actual MP5. Try starting with a short-barrel G3 and rechambering it in 10 mm (for random example) that might've given it the required solidity durability and robustness.10 mm—for both handguns and submachine guns—is far more trouble than it's worth, imho. Others will disagree and have good fun with their 10 mms, I get that and good on them; enjoy.
>>65402143>recoil bufferLittle difference (if any besides the breech, chamber) between the MP5/40 and /10 component build. Read post below (You)He's talking about all internal components and receiver itself being rapidly auto-destroyed. (not solely exclusively just 'muh buffer')

>>65378654I don't want to give Pakistan credit but their G3/AR10 hybrid looks kind of cool. G3 upper with the roller system and slap handle with an AR10 lower and recoil mitigation. >>65380211I shot with one and it did not felt to bad. I think the problem is the difference in ethnicity as a german Soldier probably has a lot stronger gripstrengh than the average brown conscript. When my father was serving they used the rifle and he had nothing to complain about it. He just said it was normal easy to shoot rifle.
