Why aren't gun scabbards more common for long guns? An AR-15 could easily be carried on the hip since It's OAL is roughly the length of an arming sword, perfect for carry states.
probably because it's bulky and dumb
Why don't you have a job?
>>65383619As soon as I opened the video I instantly knew this guy was slavic even before I clocked the AK.
Because It's gay
>>65383619>An AR-15 could easily be carried on the hip since It's OAL is roughly the length of an arming sword, perfect for carry states. The buffer tube is the weakest link. The only reason soviets did this was because the AK-74u was much more compact and actually had a folding stock. It isn't ideal for actual line infantry, but people such as truck drivers, helicopter pilots, or armored vehicle crew really benefited from the idea.
A sling is lighter and simpler
>>65383619too manly
>>65383762>truck drivers, helicopter pilots, or armored vehicle crewthey typically got issued pistols and/or had a full size gun hung somewhere in the vehicle both of which are much less retarded that strapping a briefcase to your leg
>>65383781Its better to have a weapon on you than having to dig around in your (potentially on fire) fighting compartment for your own weapon. It is convenient, and has some utility even if it is a clunky way of handling such a problem. I doubt they kept the holster once they actually needed the thing, I would ditch it and use a sling once I abandon the vehicle, and surely many of these soldiers in Afghanistan thought the same.
>>65383791>Its better to have a weapon on you than having to dig around in your (potentially on fire) fighting compartment for your own weapon.for vehicles that don't turn into space launchers for a moon program this isn't a very pressing issue and even that can be resolved by just hanging the gun outside for those that do.
>>65383806We are talking about soviets, one of the prized features of their fighting vehicles are their ability to self-combust into a huge bonfire, there is no time to waste when abandoning a soviet designed vehicle, because if you take too long it will become your casket. Ergonomics were also not good in their vehicles, so you may have not even been able to stow a rifle anywhere within easy reach. I guess for truck drivers they didn't need it, same with people in a BTR, but if I was in a BMP or T-series tank, Getting out fast would be my first priority, and there would be no time to rifle around for the gun you stashed. There is a reason they used it and Americans/western Euros didnt, their vehicles were survivable and had plenty of interior space for whatever the fuck, sometimes even full sized rifles.
>>65383824that's why i suggested to just strap it near a hatch on the outsidesounds like too straightforward of a solution for the soviets i guess
>>65383839>that's why i suggested to just strap it near a hatch on the outsideI, too, want to donate a free rifle to any Mujahedin brave enough to crawl on my vehicle. Soviet Afghanistan was a shit show, how could we really know why they did it? I can tell you one thing though, their helicopter pilots really appreciated the holsters, because it guaranteed they could fight back long enough to be rescued if downed in the middle of sandland.
>>65383850design a lock that straps it down to the vehicle when the hatch is closed or something, alternatively keep it in a box on the outside so it's accessible but protected from the elements and doesn't rust shut due to shit ass soviet weather coating.there really are many better ways to go about it than to bother with the fucking case. i can't imagine trying to crawl out of a burning bmp compartment with that thing attached. don't even get me started on the t-72 driver's hull escape route.
>>65383850>I can tell you one thing though, their helicopter pilots really appreciated the holstersThey appreciated them so much, they ditched them in favor of just strapping the rifle to their chest.
>>65383908That doesn't look much more comfortable than the holster, I would hate having to operate an MI-24 with something like that across my chest. Personal preferences dictated use of the holster I suppose, but it is better that they at least tried to make an out of the way solution, regardless of true utility. Surprised ur pic wasn't standard protocol, it fits soviet mentalities perfectly (cheap and adequate).
>>65383926>Surprised ur pic wasn't standard protocolI mean it kind of was. Just for paratroopers, not pilots. But they adopted the simpler solution instead of the bulky holster.
>>65383774Look at that belt sag
>>65383926>cheap and adequate>adequate Come on now
>>65383619just made a chiraqi battlefield pickup out of a cheap gunbroker kit, micro 5.5 barrel, about as small as they come and i still can't imagine wearing it on my hip.
>>65383774Literally like carrying a sword
>>65384337>chiraqi battlefield pickupWant to see this thing anon, lemme see it
>>65385751Okay, but in my defense the kit was $100.
>>65385819I cannot fault you for a 100$ half-squirted blaster anon, kudos
>>65383619That's Max Popenker.
>>65384990swords are half the weight or less and not as bulky.
>>65385819WTF is that abomination?
>>65388626True freedom
>>65388626Ork Shoota
>>65388626I was browsing gunbroker and saw this gem, it was advertised as a 300blk from a mid tier manufacturer that had been mistreated. In cleaning off the gooey gold spraypaint on the bolt I noticed that it was chambered for 7.62x39, no big deal I have plenty of that, so I looked at my options for mags, then checked what was available for printing that would take mags I already had. Low and behold there was a model that took single stack ak mags so I printed it up to test. I may switch it up for an aluminum lower or modify a printed one to take standard ak mags, we'll see. Also need to get some shims for the handguard nut, it suffered some gangsta gunsmifin but the bolt looks good and the barrel is okay, if a bit too tiny.
