How are you supposed to conduct interdiction and CAS with standoff weapons exactly?
>>
>>65388379
Do you think they're only going to have stand off weapons?

Find the enemy SAM
Blow it up with your standoff weapon
>>
>find target
>relay info to air power
>air power bomb target with standoff weapons
???

profit
>>
>>65388387
What if they hide them periodically, or use intermittent radar emissions, or use multiple small networked radars that are less vulnerable to larger long range weapons
>>
>>65388422
Then all the shit you're trying to defend (like your big, static, impossible to hide industrial complexes/munition stockpiles/C2 centers/your mom) gets blown up because you're playing peekaboo with the shit you're supposed to be using for defense. That's the whole point of air defense, to stop someone from just bombing whatever they want with impunity. If you're busy playing fuck-fuck games trying to make that defense harder to destroy by decreasing its effectivesness, you're basically smashing your own face with a rock and acting smug about it.
>>
>>65388422
get to the point
have you an alternative solution? if you don't, fuck off
>>
>>65388379
The Close in Close Air Support means the target is close to friendlies not the plane.
If the FAC on the ground can talk you onto target while you use a TPG from 40nm away there is no need for you to get any closer.
Also with all the fancy datalink shit these days I wouldn't be surprised if the FAC can just upload of POI to your computer.
>>
The need for CAS stems from failures in artillery procurement
All of it should be replaced by rockets
>>
>>65388379
Track something moving until it stops and then hit it with a missile. Russia used to use the Iskander against a lot of high value single vehicle targets.

>it's true in my imagination
>>
>>65388422
That would be the S in SEAD
>>
>>65388422
ok S-300s and S-400s are designed to lay quiet passively scanning the skies until one of them decides to switch active, this makes them much less of a target.
So you send out a MALD-J, it's a decoy drone that looks like a fucking Boeing 747 filled with Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders to a hohol radar, it pings it, they all light up, and then:
You'll have other aircraft scanning for the radars that are coming online, they'll light up like a christmas tree shaped firework on the 4th of july, and you'll have another aircraft launching AGM-88 HARM missiles into these radar installations and then you'll have yet another guy standing by with a bucket of popcorn watching all of Russia's latest and greatest multi-million dollar radar installations popping off one after the other.
and that's how babies are made.
>>
>>65388734
But what if you miss them in your sweep because they are hard to find or able to go into bunkers.
Do you think the drones and planes (albeit shitty low numbers) that Iran are shooting down were shot down with nothing.

What if the spread out radars are not really cost effective to hit with normal munitions, hypothetical miniradars that work like worldwide space reading radar sats do with high aperture but low "hitbox" that is able to survive multiple large hits and still ping.

What if they're using radar jammers and other spoofing technology to lie about the true location of the radars just like planes, or use decoy emitters.

What if HARMs cost more than the radars that can be destroyed and they keep popping them up and eventually you run out keep losing planes.

There are all sorts of hypotheticals here where a peer may bog you down enough to make overflights almost impossible outside of localised areas. You cannot in a true peer war just say "SEAD" because it can be countered by all sorts of fun little traps.
>>
>>65388754
>What if SEAD couldn't work?
Then we wouldn't do it. But it does work, so we do it.
>>
>>65388379
Same way we did for a decade in Iraq and Afghanistan.
>>
>>65388754
the ircraft dropping HARM missiles are normally F-35s from outside of the radar's visible envelope, the SAMs they waste on killing MALD-Js will cost more than the decoys themselves, we won't be losing planes because the S-400 and even the S-500s can't normally track a F-35, and the US government doesn't really care how much money it costs, only that the radars and SAM batteries get taken down.
A S-500 battery costs about $2.5 billion right now if you wanted to buy one of them. That's the cost of a warship. The S-400 costs about half that.
Still, an AGM-88 is under $1 million, and crashing one of those into a S-400 or S-500 radar or command center would be worth it a thousand times over.
>>
>>65388797
S-500s have Pantsir S1/S2s and TOR-M2s nearby to shoot down high volumes of incoming HARM missiles. These are cheap. While the anti-air is busy tracking the MALD-Js, a few CHAMP missiles fly over and fry the entire installation with microwave radiation. None of the missiles even have to hit.

> S-500s have Pantsir S1/S2s and TOR-M2s nearby to shoot down high volumes of incoming HARM missiles
Those traditionally have trouble engaging slow drones which they should be ideal against
>>
>>65388754
if your AA is hiding in a bunker it is suppressed. what does the S in SEAD stand for again?
>>
>>65388861
What he's actually asking is "what if the enemy magically knows where all of your aircraft are without radars so they can pull their radar out of the bunkers at exactly the right time to shoot down the aircraft?"
>>
>>65388871
I know, and what I was actually telling him is "you are a fucking retard"
>>
>>65388871
>Why can't we just use giant shotguns full of literal tons of birdshot and just have them go off into the air when the sound sensors detect that loud ass engine?
>>
>>65388880
Why can't we just build really tall walls with the horizon painted on them near military installations?
>>
>>65388379
JDAMs go up to 40 miles fix that
