is ironvision actually useful for a tank crew?
>>
Why wouldn't it be? It's fucking video game tier shit. My car does it shittily when I put it in reverse it would be dope with a visor
>>
>>65389433
usually if you give soldiers more shit they either dont use it or its a distraction
>>
>>65389406
over-complicated
Just use cameras and monitor screens.
>>
>>65389442
unironically what most crews did in gaza is buy those cheap car fisheye reverse cameras and wire them up inside the tank to screens
>>
>>65389442
poorfag moment
>>
>>65389437
If it makes them do less work they'll use it, if it makes them do more work they won't.

Tanks should be gunner(could also be the commander) and driver operated by the same person, it's works in video games, why wouldn't it work in real life if you make the operation more digital?
You still need a loader.
>>
>>65389450
do you have any more info on this?

only newest made merkavas have this
>>
>>65389406
Being able to see where the fuck you're going has historically been something of a weak point for tanks. Anything that can compensate for that without exposing crew is a good thing.
>>
man this shit is cool.
>>
Doesn't weird shit happen to your brain if you spend too much time in VR?
>>
>>65389437
This is basically the same as the helmet mounted displays Apache and F-35 pilot get, it might increase crew training time slightly but will be more than worth it.
>>
>>65390758
It's not VR, they are getting a 2d image projected in front of them instead of a different image to each eye. It's been around in Apaches and F-35s for ages.
>>
>>65389406
One could imagine the possible tactical advantage of looking around and seeing a transparent outline of the tank while being able to "see" what is going on outside by looking around normally
>>
>>65389761
>why wouldn't it work in real life if you make the operation more digital?
Because tanks don't have monitors gamers have, and speed of camera rotation gamers have.
Boomers try to cope with memes like iron vision, and they predictably fail.
>>
>>65389821
very interesting, thanks
>>
>>65389406
This image is so exploitable for memes and reaction images
>>
>>65390843
the latency in some of the footage looks terrible, you'd get sick after just a few minutes like you would with a VR headset, let alone spending days or even weeks confined in a tank looking through that thing

its literally a copy of the helicopter sight adapted for tanks. same electronics same everything but since tank crews move can move around a lot more you need more optical trackers inside the tank cabin
>>
>>65389761
Vidya simplify a lot of shit, IRL don't have already known map with easily traversable terrain, nor flawless IFF markers and win indicator.
Shit take time and you might die while you taking a decision.
You also can't respawn when you've died for the 10th time after getting distracted.

You'll still be replaced by robots.

Vr porn for everyone
>>
>>65389437
They already need to pay attention to their surroundings, maintain situational awareness. Right now they need to use fixed vision blocks, and limited camera feed.
>>
won't be long until some tanker crews figure out how to input videos from their phones and spend hours fapping to vr porn while buttoned up
>>
>>65392168
most military systems that use video use standard DVI (because they dont need a license for it unlike HDMI/DP/others). phones these days output displayport over the usbc port you just buy a phone dock dongle and an adapter to dvi

combat has evolved
>>
>>65392321
putting porn on it is way too complicated
you're far better off just bringing a quest 2/3 headset with you to the army but (if things are like they were then i last did reserve duty) you're gonna need to hide it.
>>
>>65392178
probably also for the EMR shielding
>>
>>65391461
Pro tip: find size and resolution of the monitors Abrams tank have. Pro tip: it will suck to play WT on that.
>>
>>65393895
Also it won't snap out of the socket as easily.

>Zero latency

What did they mean by this?
>>
>>65391461
Why don't we just design a tank crew that can respawn?

they use dvi but not over the DVI connector but over these millitary connectors, they typically combine many functions into one cable/connector like power + DVI + RS232. ive made custom cables like this at a place i used to work

>>65393970
it stitches together multiple video feeds into one virtual video feed live (probably via an FPGA). and then from those cuts out a vr view for each soldier while not introducing (non trivial) latency based on each helmet's tracking data. its not a trivial thing to do in terms of the electronics. it would be trivial for a company like qualcomm/apple but not for something boutique and small-batch like this without access to fancy custom silicon and the world's top fabs (and even if every country buys this for every tank on the planet it would be 'boutique' compared to say qualcomm xr2). such millitary electronics are very primitive/weak compared to many civilian counterparts ive seen many examples of this working in the field

If I had editing skills I'd make him watch GuP.

>it would be trivial for a company like qualcomm/apple but not for something boutique and small-batch like this without access to fancy custom silicon and the world's top fabs
This is why their aproach is inherently wrong and gay. Transfer of high definition video without latency is non trivial and adding layers of hard difficulty of video stiching and VR tracking aren't helping.
You just better use bunch of hi res monitors and hook video feed from one hi res camera to one monitor directly, you can find COTS solutions for that.
>>

already implemented in the IDF by reservists. 80$ car reverse cameras hooked up to monitors inside the tank to expand the visibility offered by the built in cameras.

think of this as taking an avionics system they already manufacture for more than a dozen armies for helis and jets and putting the same thing (with different firmware and minor modifications) in a tank. so the added cost of making more of them is miniscule because the (extremely expensive) production and contracts with suppliers lines already exist. theyre improving the margins on something they basically already make by finding new customers for it.
it does more than just let you view the outside for example on helicopters it lets you switch between day and night cameras with a click and also view LIDAR/RADAR data on your helmet instead of looking at other instruments. see
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDkMXUy0Hs8
it also shows you 3d markers of enemies/friendlies fed by other systems , markers by the other crewmembers and so on. in some of the helicopter videos of these HMD systems you also see the cursor of every other crew member of the heli on your vr/ar view so which renders half the talking you see in many videos from inside tanks in combat redundant you just point your head at what you're talking about and the whole crew knows exactly what you mean and can glance at it themselves immediately.

im not saying this will be as revolutionary in tanks as it was in aviation. the biggest advantage in aviation was flight in low light conditions using these systems but it might make tank crews work/communicate a lot faster and improve situational awareness which tends to be the biggest weakness of tanks.

These have potato resolution
>>
>>65394093
true but recent 1080p AHD cameras are not that bad and its mostly intended for short range situational awareness and additional cameras for the driver not for looking at shit far away or shooting which is what the tanks built-in commander/gunner optics are for.

theres tons of videos of tanks not seeing or tanking long to respond to enemies sneaking up to or close to them or not seeing them at all this helps a lot

>>
>>65394143
i think it makes sense to a degree like the tank is mostly iron so seething 'through' it is kind of like 'iron vision'
>>
>>65393975
because weird things keep following them back and they don't always fully come back.
