If you're doing an insertion with a sustainment load, aka heavy as fuck, then landing or jumping makes more sense since it's easier and safer to land / jump a heavy ruck then it is to rope with it, and you can kick door bundles out on a chute easier than you can using the FRIES system.>or even just landing the chopper?Land, and you create a sound signature like you landed to conduct an insertion, while you don't have that sound signature if you just drop jumpers over the drop zone.Rotary wing jumps have their place, but most of the time the conventional forces will just land, and the SOF guys will either land OR rope in.
