>>65393779The trouble I have with japanese decorations is that they never compliment their surroundings unless given a great deal of care and design, antiquities like these practically demand that you set up an entire space for them, see the picture. Personally I would display them on a hutch or bookshelf with a dark stain. The gold elements should draw the eye and then the deep colors and lines of the swords will become that much more rewarding to look at. Im going to go out on a limb and assume that youre displaying these in your bedroom on top of a shelf or dresser, the problem is that the white textured paint makes them look cheap by downplaying the golden decorative elements, making the fabrics look flat and emphasizing how the the sidearm is partially mismatched with the main sword along with having two differenttypes of lacquer. TL;DR Go antiquing with your gf and find a nice piece to display them on.
