I'm currently enlisted in a european army and has shot nothing but AK-style rifles throughout my service, but a while back I got the ability to try out shooting an M4 since we are finally throwing those old AKs in the trash for something modern-ish. How come you can't put the safety selector to safe without having charged the thing? Is it an actual restriction inherit to the design AR-15 pattern rifles or the M4 in particular, or did Stoner do that just for the sake of it? Was the thought that implementing that feature just adds more parts that can break?
>if your rifle isn't charged you don't need it on safe, it can't shoot
I know, but I still want to be able to control my safety selector at all times and have it on safe until it's time to take a shot.

Why
>>
HK416 allows you to put the safety on at any time
>>
>>65393839
Because I want to feel like I'm in control of my own rifle. Not being able to throw it into safe even when it can't shoot just feels wrong.

It is an indicator of the weapon's status without gross manipulation, like racking the bolt or dropping the mag.

Say it is dark or you encounter an unattended weapon. The bolt is forward, but what is going on inside? Charged? Discharged?
Now, quickly and quietly, all you have to do is try wiggling the safety lever.

Does that answer your question?
My question is, which country? I remember hearing that (Sweden was it?) got leftover M4s as a stopgap while awaiting Sako's Quality Control investigation.

because it doesn't matter. there's no reason to not have the hammer cocked.

that tension destroys the springs over time you nogunz faggot. you would know that if you'd ever actually handled a weapon before.
>>
>>65393818
You don't have to take your hand off the grip to work the selector. US shooting doctrine emphasizes keeping the weapon on safe as much as possible, so having easy access to it is paramount. Run some drills moving from low ready to sight picture on a target: swap to fire when the rifle comes up, put it back on safe when you go down. You'll get a feel for it pretty quick.
>>

many ARs solved this
>>
>>65393818
because the gun is already safe if the hammer is down
>>
>>65393959
nta but it doesnt if the spring isnt shit. Same thing with magazine springs. t. some guns cocked and several magazines always full for over 10 years now
>>
>>65393959
>that tension destroys the springs over time you nogunz faggot
no it doesn't, retard. do you think your hammer spring isn't under tension when the hammer isn't cocked? It's still at 90%.
>>
>>65393959
Two things. First if that was true then whatever, the springs are cheap and easy to replace every few years. Second, do you place your car on jackstands to relieve your suspension to make it last longer? Every spring on the AR is under tension at all times.
>>
>>65393818
It lets you know the hammer is decocked without having to fiddle with the rifle.

That's a walrus, you stupid bitch.

Training scar. Your shitty habits and 3rd world expectations of how something should function based on your prior crude service weapon does not detract from the ARs superior ergonomics, Laplander.

It's not necessary, but also companies like LMT I think have setups that allow you to flip the gun to safe even when the hammer is up(down, however you describe discharged). It's a dumb feature that isn't necessary at all. I'm pretty sure while you are charging the rifle you can hold the bolt back and flip the safety onto safe if you are that paranoid, but I've owned ARs for awhile and I don't even know off the top of my head if you can do that because it's so unnecessary. Just keep your finger out of the trigger guard while charging the gun then flip it on safe. Adding the ability to flip it onto safe even while discharged is literally just feature bloat for midwits, but then again that's most of LMT's AR features in general lol. Alot of the "issues" with AR15s or M4s are basically illusionary and only seem valid on paper but IRL just aren't issues. There is a reason the basic M4A1 has been in service for as long as it has

>t. Talking about Fleshlights
>>
>>65396885
It's a Euro thing, not an LMT thing. LMT probably does it to be more attractive to prospective Euro contracts.
>>
>>65393963
He's not complaining about safety/selector placement but the fact that military M16s and M4s can't be switched to safe without cocking the hammer, which is weird to anyone except people who familiarized with AR-15 first.

Is this the actual OG lore or some ex-post retconing?

Ukraine isn't an European country and I'm tired of pretending it is.
