Who are they and why are they infantry but better in every measurable way?
>>6539962019Ds are Bradley drivers now, the actual MOS only exists in armored units. the dudes walking around in stetsons everywhere else are just infantry, fisters, etc. and just larping for whatever recon billet their unit is filling.
>>6539962019D no longer exists. I have a buddy who was a Guard 19D as they got phased out. They all got converted to 11Bs and had some kind of expedited training for that.
Which force were the guys who rode horses in Afghanistan? Feels like the cavalry proper is slowly losing its traditions.
>>65401104The Space Force is the only branch of the military that still uses horse cavalry for an operational mission. Everything else is ceremonial, like TOG's funeral caissons or the Massachusetts State Guard
>>654011045th SFG. The Army used to work a stable in Colorado specifically to train for that exact scenario and would send ODAs to it to qualify, but it shut down a few years ago. I don't know if they still try to qualify operators on operational horsemanship
>>65401133>The Space Force is the only branch of the military that still uses horse cavalry for an operational mission. What, that's like the least space force thing I can imagine
>>65401104>Which force were the guys who rode horses in Afghanistan? They caused a swelling in the ranks.https://youtu.be/TVh88CkBIKw
>>65401569It's almost certainly for patrolling natural terrain around launch sites.
Talk about using literal horses in modern combat reminds me of my favorite genre/setting of post-apocalype shit. The "post-post-apocalype". >Infantry divisions heavily using steam locomotives to move supplies and units to fronts>mixture of post-nuclear exchange and pre-war military hardware>cavalry using dirt bikes and horses to scout ahead>armies comprised mostly of infantry divisions with corps level "shock battalions" comprised of whatever armored fighting vehicles they can still get to work>most soldiers are either pressed into service or only fighting just to get guarantees of food rather than gay ideological reasons>heavy use of auxiliary forces comprised of wacky localsIt's honestly what the Fallout games should be and I can only hope for a STALKER-esque game set in a post nuclear-exchange US being like that. I think the Resistance in both Terminator 1-2 future war scenes and how they are in Salvation is a decent vibe that fits what I mean.
>>6540081219D still exist. They've removed them in IBCT's while also removing cavalry squadrons for the most part out of every brigade (I think ABCT's are the only exception) with the idea of either forming squadrons at the division level or even going as far as to bring back the concept of armored cavalry regiments that exist at either division level or as a corps level asset due to the Army restructuring for LSCO. They've also introduced the MOS 19C which is a Bradley crewmen so that they can have dedicated guys for that rather than having all crewmen either being 11B's forced to do it or 19D's forced to do it.
>>65401632The wasteland being the way it is makes sense in Fallout because the absolute vast majority of everyone died and nobody was capable of large-scale territorial control for a long while afterwars, to the point where big states became a thing nobody alive could really relate to and thus didn't give much of a damn about resurrecting. Humanity spent most of history highly balkanized and hundreds of thousands of years broken up into small tribes and villages, it isn't like remaking nation-states is a quick or even inevitable thing. The actual big problem is all the retcons that make everything invented post-war actually per-war, as apparently even the highly technically capable groups are completely incapable of improving or designing literally anything now.
>>65401569>he didn't watch the latest Star Wars movieI envy you.
