Pretty sure there are some designs that do address this.
Some that are effectively muzzle-loaded pepperboxes, some that use improvised ammo made from things like nail gun blanks, etc

3D printed guns aren't relevant to me personally so I haven't gone looking for detailed info, but I saw some chatter on this topic here a few years ago.
The people working on this shit have likely made some progress since then.

I think the Urutao, a 9mm SMG, is rated to take about 500 shots before being serviced and possibly needing replacement parts? Compare to thousands or tens of thousands of shots for a basic bitch pistol before it needs anything replaced.
They're inferior to professionally made steel but I wouldn't want to be shot with one. For the time you'd spend assembling all the parts, you could probably buy a better gun, if you're a non-felon living in America. They're for enthusiasts (not a bad way to start learning gunsmithing) or thirdies. Some would say criminals but any competent American criminal can buy a stolen gun for less.

Yeah they're a meme. I don't necessarily discourage it though, but it's been around for a while and obviously no one is taking it very seriously. Still, I encourage pushing the boundaries wherever they exist.

However, anyone with the CAD/CAM know-how can just apply it to actual CNC machining. Even then, barrel making and ammunition are limitations requiring of their own nature that 3D printers will never capture in our lifetime. You're better off with carpentry or metal working skills to manufacture a flintlock, bow and arrow or blade.

Spectacular for airsoft creativity though or low-investment prototyping.

Otherwise 3D printing is best for things like making cable ties so your office is a bit more tidy and shit like that.

It is designed to hold 100 rounds and thus maximise the amount of ammunition you could store inside the stock of the Magpul X22 Backpacker stock. You have to keep in mind that home 3D printing hadn't really been a reasonably attainable technology for the vast majority of people until Creality released the Ender 3 printer, which was a genuinely useful machine priced below $300. That only happened in 2018.
That opened up a new world to a new generation of designers and hobbyists.
In those 8 years we've seen the release of multiple platforms, some of which have seen actual rebel use, like the FGC9 in Myanmar.
As time moves on, we're seeing people now being able to buy machines that print in PA6 Nylon for less than $1k.
You can now design and fabricate objects that use genuine engineering plastics in your bedroom.
At the moment most printing is just non-pressure bearing components, but there are some things like suppressors for actual rifle calibers that are literally out there now.
The groundwork is being laid for the next levels of technology.
When SLS or other powder bed metal printing tech becomes more affordable (and it will), you're going to see the next leg up in terms of design and manufacturing, and at that point I doubt you'll see anyone calling it a meme with any real seriousness.
Ammunition is a bottleneck, but that only lasts until someone with the drive and enthusiasm to figure out a solution comes along and spends months of their lives experimenting and comes up with a rudimentary solution that is then improved in stages by others in the community.

Biggest problem is definitely the oxidizer, yeah.
Potassium Permanganate and Hydrogen Peroxide make searing hot steam and oxygen, which was the driving reaction behind the liquid fueled rockets during WWII that Germany fielded. But then you run into the problems of storing hazardous corrosive peroxide that’ll rapidly eat at anything organic it touches when it reaches a certain concentration (oh, and explosive peroxide salts).
Carbon dioxide might be interesting as a propellant source though, because with some refrigeration tech from window AC units or mini fridges and other relatively accessible parts you can definitely make liquid CO2 at home and pressurize it with a shop compressor (don’t have to worry about oil residue in the liquid CO2.)
I still think smokeless is superior though, but nitric acid and liquid ammonia are both hard to make in bulk at a home scale efficiently and are energy gated.
Might be better to just make acetone peroxide explosive charges at that point.

That's honestly where I get most of my use out of 3D printing.
I design something in CAD, hit print when I wake up in the morning to go to work, and when I come home I've got an iteration ready for me to check and adjust.

Took me less than $10 in plastic and 10 iterations to have everything from concept to functional. Next step is going from PLA to carbon fiber. Added bonus, I can drop my files on odysee for other 3d print fans to replicate at the touch of a button.

LOL. There's a guy on Plebbit going by "Germy McBallswell" who does a lot of 3D-printed projectiles. I'm not certain it was by him, but I just watched a video of a 3D-printed warhead for firing out of a potato cannon and it looked like the same land that he usually shoots his whistling crossbow bolts on. It was fin-stabilized, with swing-out fins that folded in behind the main warhead body and popped out as soon as the projectile exited the potato cannon muzzle. Looked sort of like a spicy finned buttplug.

I assume the potato cannon was propane-powered, he didn't really show that part.

Anyway, needless to say, I immediately started thinking about fuzing and maybe a bore-rider pin to prevent detonation in the t00b.

A potato to the face could easily be lethal, depending on the strike geometry, but one of these 3D printed things could easily be made as lethal as the VOGs the Ukrainians were dropping on Russian ziggers.
