Why are military pistol trials 20 sad glock clones but military rifles trials are the most insane schizo clockwork nightmares you've ever seen?
Its a pity the colt ACR never went anywhere. Not because it was good, but it was backwards compatible with normal 5.56 and would have meant mass issued optics and collapsible stocks 20 years earlier. Plus having such a heavy profile barrel as standard might have meant hypervelocity shit being played with much earlier.

The next step was to move away from shitty .30 caliber intermediate rifle cartridges, and instead to SCHV ones like 5.56mm and 5.45mm, and that perfection was already achieved by the 1960s.
