Forgive the shit photos (found this while at work) but here's an early 1944 Japanese document captured on Saipan, on a theoretical defense of the Osumi Islands after RED captures Taiwan, but with some odditiesFactions described:>Red: China, Malaya, 'South Sea Islands' but specifically excluding the US or Australia, but also described as bearing "close resemblance to the American Army">Yellow: Japan, but described as "a small country with very little armament"-Blue: Manchuria, "This is the Japanese Army"

More importantly, it gives your officers running OPFOR a basis for roleplaying that isn't going to be quite as polluted by their own preconceptions. ...and then you use the real country names for the plans that involve actually fighting the real countries, which we have and revise regularly for pretty much everyone on Earth. Including ll of our allies.

You don't need to worry if that's a precisely accurate estimate to China's actual resources or equipment. It's fully possible you don't actually know what the real country has for that role or what it can do but this way you can eyeball it for training purposes. If you do know, it also means you can fudge the real numbers to have a trainable approximation without revealing that you know real capabilities.As a bonus, no chance of confusion between exercise scenarios and real documentation or embarrassing headlines when things leak.
