Pro-bullpup here, but I dont think it matters. A guy getting shot at is just going to think the same things if he's getting shot at by an optimal or suboptimal muzzle velocity gun like "holy cow, I'm being shot at!" and probably thinking the same things when he does get shot, maybe something like "fuck, Ive been shot!"

Adoption rates, maybe. Abandonment rates on the other hand are absolutely a valid metric. Nearly every country using bullpups are making moves to, or have already, replaced them with conventional pattern rifles. Clearly consensus has been reached (in many cases independently) that whatever benefits bullpups offer simply aren't worth the squeeze.
