I like Centurion, they are thin and light, he should get a BCM rail - the ugly A/B pattern oblong holes in the top of the rail seem better for him than the Centurion's aesthetic, larger, consistently sized holes.

It's really hard to tell. They're using a different looking lockup on the handguard (still looks like it functions the same though maybe it interacts with the barrel nut better?) Here it looks like the handguard is fit to the receiver to mimic monolithic appearances. You can also see that the pic slot at the top of the rail is a seamless style as well.

Decided I want to make my own stock instead of buying a chassis. Ordered a badger ordenance m5 bdm and I'll see if I can find some 2" thick hardwood tomorrow to start roughing something out. I have almost 0 woodworking experience, I don't know how to make an inlet, and all I've got for wood tools are a drill, miter saw, circ saw, a couple of hand saws, a few chissels, and a hand plane. I'm sure I'll do a shit job and spend way more money than if I just bought a chassis and probably end up with something totally unusable but it seems like a fun project

That's why I asked. The one store only carries 175s so that's what I was buying but then I tried 168s and now I'm wondering about things. I tried so many types too at first. Didn't find any hidden gems. Had some luck with reloads but I'm too lazy for that (this one was at 100y).

Yeah man four rounds through the same hole and one flyer not too shabby if I do say so myself. It's just a build, criterion barrel and lmt bolt. Hey what mags did yours like? I have one of those ideas in mind like your upside down mag saga where it sounds crazy but I think I might be on to something. Basically an expansion wing on a camelback so I can put a double mag pouch on one side and a rangefinder on the other. It wouldn't be a serious kit just enough for some fun.

That's slower than HICAR program goal
We've had that shit with nas3 for over a year
From what I've heard actual HICAR is juicing nas3 77 to ~3200 and 855a1 to ~3500 at that barrel length. With milspec powder I'm only able to push 855a1 to 3k, so they are either using faster blackout powders or mixing in a touch of pistol powder to juice it up if those numbers are to be believed
>much more realistic from 14.5 tho
>>
>>65408692
A second goal I've heard is M995 at almost 4000, which should really shit on armor.
>>
Is this just going to be a barrel and bolt swap or is it going to necessitate a new upper receiver?
>>
>>65408692
Well you're sources might be incorrect or have outdated info because SOCOM is using Federal Peak Alloy case tech, not NAS-3
>>
>>65408418
seems a little underwhelming tbqhfam.
my 13.9 barrel does 2,750 fps w/ nas3 77gr.
>>
>>65408763
Yes. It's using their reinforced upper, it looks like it's using that SOLGW style of locking between handguard and receiver, and my guess is that it also uses a further enhanced bolt (bcg as well?) to accommodate the higher pressures.
>>
>>65408795
I wonder if any of the other participants are shooting for just a retrofit of existing rifles with a barrel and BCG.

I think it's possible that a successful frontrunner wouldn't entail an entirely new rifle system but just a barrel and bolt. If Tasker fag is correct the MK1 is essentially the framework for HICAR and it uses a standard receiver set.

Ok, but what was g$ using in the video?
The velocity they posted was basically nas3+extra (milspec) powder from added volume, nothing exotic, not even a compressed load. I haven't seen peak 556 mentioned or available outside spook programs, and every commercial offering is some long or magnum action thing
>>65408848
My impression is they are using similar materials autism as the 6 ARC rifles, because the bolt thrust is higher. Probably more precise tolerances on bolt and barrel extension so there's less chance of catastrophic failure due to one deeper lug absorbing the energy. I'm still dubious AR15 bolt is adequate, but it may be a situation where once the barrel is shot out from accelerated throat erosion, you just toss the bolt

>>
>>65409171
Yes. Watch some videos, pick some colors, and have fun with it
>>
>>65409171
You can't really fuck it up. Tape off the parts you don't want. Look at it and think about it - did you tape everything? If you did, just start spraying. There's dozens of youtube videos of people doing it. If you do fuck up, you can just repaint it, no biggie.
>>
>>65408929
They probably went monolithic for the extra strength. I've seen base separation with nas3; more from violent extraction than over pressure. When it eventually trickles out I'm curious to experiment
>>65409171
Yes. Prep is the most important part. Remove all the small bits and get some frog tape to mask everything if you want to do multiple colors, if the paints had time to off gas it won't peel it
>>
>>65409171
If you do it do something simple. When you think to yourself "I should stop now" then you should stop now. It only ever goes downhill if you keep painting past that point.

you definitely should both for visual and IR camouflage

it is very easy to do
>get blue painter tape and cover up all your important parts where dust or spray paint could get inside of the gun
>cover your optics important parts
>roll up some tape to plug the barrel
>throw a cardboard sheet on the grass and lay your rifle ontop of that
>spray a flat coat of tan or light green or something as a base wait like 5 minutes and flip it over and spray the other side
>wait another 5 minutes flip it back over and start doing your pattern whatever you want to do whether you use leafs to make a pattern or just do stripes or dots or whatever else
>wait 5 minutes and flip and do the other side
>let it sit outside for 30 minutes to a few hours when you finish
>toss it in your safe and let it sit for a day or two

>surprising gassy
This is a GOOD thing. It means you're getting actually suppression for the weight, length, and volume displaced by the suppressor. Low back pressure suppressors are a fucking meme (until proven otherwise) but IME at this point the one LBP can that I got absolutely gives up at muzzle suppression performance to net low back pressure (for its size and weight)... Also you WANT high BP to increase dwell time allowing for the gas operated platform to be tuned for a longer duration lower peak amplitude pressure and thus smoother operating force curve, decreasing felt recoil and improving sight picture recovery. Also more available operating system energy helps run FRT SS systems.
