Here it looks like the handguard is fit to the receiver to mimic monolithic appearances. You can also see that the pic slot at the top of the rail is a seamless style as well.

Decided I want to make my own stock instead of buying a chassis. Ordered a badger ordenance m5 bdm and I'll see if I can find some 2" thick hardwood tomorrow to start roughing something out. I have almost 0 woodworking experience, I don't know how to make an inlet, and all I've got for wood tools are a drill, miter saw, circ saw, a couple of hand saws, a few chissels, and a hand plane.
