Nobody's saying this, the tomb guard M17 is just ugly as hell. It looks like a concept art gun from a video game, and coupled with the absurdly long mag and the patent leather holster it just looks greasy and tacky.

People actually like understated, tasteful ceremonial guns.

My problem is that it has zero sharp lines at all. >>65408723
Nothing, inherently, and certainly not for ceremonial purposes like these, but the Sig Saar is just such a fucking ugly and low quality pistol, and they did not do a very good job prettying it up.

If they were gonna do this with ANY Sig pistol, it should have been a classic P226. It was in service with the U.S Marines/SEALs, it'd qualify.

>>65408756
God, that sword looks so fucking tacky. If you're gonna make a ceremonial sword, why not take from the classic old American cavalry and naval sabers? Make one of those and pretty it up some. Pair it up with a gucci'd flintlock pistol or cap and ball revolver, also.

Ceremonial weapons are perfectly fine, I just want them to be good. A good weapon that is then decorated well.

Ever seen any of those old Tiffany Colts? They're well crafted, extravagant, and they SCREAM Murrica, this one is even a little gaudy, Trump himself would cry a single quiet tear in approval. Sig ostensibly makes 1911s, make them fucking cook up some extra nice ones and then get them dressed up in cool American motifs.

They try to force traditions and ceremonies, and that comes off as tacky. If the brits or any other euro nation that does ceremonial military preformance tried to institute theirs suddenly it would be tacky and woerd too, it works because it has always been done that way.
>>
>>65408713
Ceremonial weapons are one thing. What they've done in this case is more in the territory of 'Trying too hard', which is pretty common from the Americans because they don't tend to let traditions arise naturally, instead forcing something through and hoping that nobody thinks its stupid in a few decades.
With this role, I would have issued old-school M1911s. Keep it tasteful and in line with the rifles, with no stupid sigshit.
>>
>>65410907
>instead forcing something through and hoping that nobody thinks its stupid in a few decades
Isn't that how most traditions start when you go back far enough?
>>
>>65411074
Most traditions were stuff that was done out of necessity for long enough that it became routine, and then continued even when it was no longer necessary because by then it had become tradition.

File: IMG_20260810_144050779.jpg (3.52 MB, 3072x4096)

The problem is multifaceted:
>The m17/m18 and the entire p320 family of guns aren't good looking guns to begin with
>Combine that with Sig's reputation, priming people to naturally dislike any p320
>The black polish is simply way too shiny, giving the gun a gaudy, almost plastic look. It reminds me of something you'd find sitting near your bathroom sink
>Theres so little contrast in the color that what little contrast there is (the wood grip panel) ends up highlighting how monotone and guady the high polish finish is
>The glossy finish can look good sparingly, but ends up looking tacky if theres too much, like in this gun
>Also, the irregular slide serrations look bad and borderline unusable

I think the honer guard deserve something thats actually traditional and tasteful. We still have 1911s in device with certain special forces elements, so I see no reason why we couldn't get Colt to manufacture special 1911s for the honor guard.
Oh, and to the anons claiming this is all cope and seethe from no-gun thirdies, I'm sorry but I'm an American and I own guns. I'll happily laugh at third world cope just like you, but I can recognize when something is clearly wrong, like this gun and the p320 in general.
>>
>>65411187
Also, to offer an alternative gun, I think something like the Colt Classic Royal Blue, but with actual tritium combat sights and MAYBE a rail. I think it would be far more tasteful while still being a function defensive weapon.

Shut the fuck up pog. The Guards do carry real rounds on ALL their rifles, including the ones used for D&C and the changing of the guard. They’re not lock and loaded but the magazines do have rounds. They’ve been doing this since their inception and partly why they’re more selective than 1-SFAS group. They just don’t parade around doing fancy shit, they’re also expected to be highly proficient infantrymen since they are in close proximity at all times to VIPs

The M1 is probably the best choice, because it has the oldschool look and feel, is rugged, has a lot of combat history, and is actually a rather capable rifle for what it is. 8rds, fast reloads, great sights, and it takes a bayonet, which all ceremonial rifles should be able to.

It's shitty handgun and unbecoming of the memorial it's supposed to represent and the respect it commands. They should've been issued with engraved Berettas.

Anyone notice the odd anti-americano shilling right after the NFA ruling was not challenged?

What'd I miss on the NFA?

All I want is for the American ceremonial weapons to be cool and American, not ugly foreign glossed up plastic.

>some ancient US warship from the age of sail or some presidents desk or some such shit, I have forgotten which.
Say her name with respect, you fucking tourist. Even if this is an egregious waste of wood from her.

There's a huge difference between a tomb guard for random dead dictator #3 and 5 (embalmed and ready for viewing by the proles) and picking one lost, unknown Anon from three different wars and according each of them the greatest honors a country can give as a symbol of our respect for everyone else who died alone and Anon.

I think it's about how useless your career was.
Not that the person was bad but "somehow wrench operator got to command level". So they give like extra "display" to echo how his resume kept getting chromed.

Yes or no, can or has anyone be or been shot by one?

the twirling takes a ton of practice to get the timing right in parade it's not faggy, it takes fucking YEARS on parade drill.

poignée-pistolet you piece of shit

Its technically impressive, but it doesnt demand any more respect than simply holding the gun at port arms
Its pure frivolity

It's not useless, it's as much a function of diplomacy and national security as an 11b.

You manage to have the worst take in a thread full of bad takes.

it's rooted in exercises meant to train soldiers to hold on to their rifle in awkward positions or during fast movement, the modern version is more of a performance but it has a practical origin

Tacky, obnoxious shit.

yes it is, but never underestimate the psychological impact of a little military pomp - on the men, on the enemy, on the citizenry and potential recruits
there's nothing wrong with being proud, and showing off a little, because the implication is that you have something to be proud of and show off
look at Britain - we're constantly grounded in our glorious history by all of the little rituals and ceremonies it produced, and to lose them would be to lose a part of who we are as a race of people

No they shoot paintballs

Why the fuck do they always go for the all-gold treatment? Give the furniture a nice black and the gold really pops.

The gilding on those rifles looks like that on a cheap robot toy that I got on a family vacation when I was like, 6 years old.

>>65428547
The Tavor doesn't really lend itself to this at all, being a plastic bodied bullpup. Gilding (or chroming) plastic will simply never ever look good, because it will never not look like plastic.
Maybe if you fashioned a replacement body made out of sheet metal or something, which you could then chrome plate for royalty bling reasons, then it could look less absurd.

Tourists will visit and see the tomb guard guns. Lots of publicity.

Who gives a fuck about modern officers.

Middle Eastern people are the most tacky/gaudy people on the planet, that's why. The concept of modesty is totally alien to them

Kek I was doing a funeral in the blazing Georgia heat and the sun cooked the battery on my fake bugle and it didn't play. After re clicking the play button while holding the bugle to my lips, everyone watching me, I eventually put the bugle back down (ceremoniously) and just saluted LMAO it was the most embarrassing moment of my life, but in hindsight it's pretty funny. It was a black guys funeral so it's not a huge deal

different anon but it’s not the spelling mistake that makes me kek, it’s the implication I would be turning blonde as I am agreeing to whatever bullshit notion
