Kill la kill. It's an anime that makes fun of anime tropes in general (for example, the good guys are nudists, and the bad guys want to force everyone to wear clothes). It was made by the same studio behind Cyberpunk Edgerunners.

The only thing that actually got requested on /r/ by the end was AI-generated nudes of real women, which, after the passage of the TAKE IT DOWN Act, is illegal under US law. The mods pretty ruthlessly hunted them too, when they fled to other boards. /gif/ however, is untouched, and I've seen anywhere between 1-4 threads up at a time of AI-generated porn of real people. I cannot say why this one board is permitted to host illegal content, bu the mods haven't done much about it yet.

That's a huge red flag. Is it as terrible as Cybershit was?
>>
>>65419609
Was edgerunners bad? I personally haven't seen, but everyone tells me it was great.
It's Studio Trigger. As far as I'm aware they're generally regarded as being pretty solid.
I've only seen Brand New Animal from them, which I thought was fine, and have only seen part of Kill la Kill, which also seemed pretty good.
I have severe problems with actually following through on the shows I start, unfortunately.
>>
>>65419669
It was awful, they kill off most of the main cast in the show. It's slop for the emotionally masochistic.
>>
>>65419704
I don't have a problem with that sort of thing, since it's cyberpunk. My problem with it is that it gets too wacky by the end and we don't get enough time with the crew in general
>>
>>65419711
>I don't have a problem with that sort of thing, since it's cyberpunk.
I'm not judging your masochism, but I still think it's a terrible show that shouldn't be recommended to anyone.
>>
>>65419718
It's far from a terrible show. Terrible is something like Angel Cop I couldn't even watch for the antisemitistic memes
>>
>>65419722
I haven't seen that one so I can't comment on it. I rank shows based on their enjoyability, and I would have been better off never seeing Cyberpunk.
>>
>>65419669
Edgerunners was kino. No anime is perfect. Faggots these days always harp on the negative. You'll laugh, you'll stand up and yell "Kino!", you might even cry. It has some pacing issues, but it's not really that bad. It's a show set in a universe where good endings don't exist. Expecting anything more than a miserable death on Night City is retarded. Getting anything more than that is a blessing.
>>
>>65412114
Don't do this, it was terrible and unmemorable.

This is either bait, or these anons are emotionally stunted to the level of a teenager.
>>
>>65428466
I think it's the opposite. The emotionally stunted ones are those that watch tragic shows and derive some kind of enjoyment out of them. Those that have normal emotions do not enjoy feeling miserable, and thus do not like tragedy. Or maybe they just aren't masochistic.
>>
>>65428409
The ending isn't poorly done, it's just a bad end. Are you autistic or something?
>>
>>65428837
this poster has bitched and moaned about edgerunners for months. best to just ignore his autistic ass
>>
>>65428483
You thought wrong. Only small children watch shows where nothing goes wrong or everything ends in sunshine and rainbows. Only children shy away from negative emotions. It's not just about the lows, it's about the highs too. They accentuate each other, just like in real life. Seeing the character's triumphs wouldn't feel as good if you didn't see them at their lowest.
>>
>>65428842
I see, so it is about emotional masochism. You want to feel sadness, you want to be miserable. I don't. I can watch characters succeed and appreciate it without seeing them die.
>>
>>65420128
If it's anything like the video game, it's tryhard pseudo-edgy where everyone is a passive aggressive little bitch and then you have the epiphany that it was probably written by lesbians.
>>
>>65428856
So there really is an audience for gary stu garbage
>>
>>65428975
Absolutely. I would say that even cookie cutter korean reincarnation slop is far better than any tragedy, because the tragedy simply ruins one's enjoyment of the story. Some more than others, sure, but most people agree that all the tragic stories they've experienced would be better if the characters they liked and connected with hadn'd died. Unless you're some flavour of masochist, of course. Then you can't enjoy a story that doesn't make you feel miserable.
>>
>>65428998
Lol. I'll admit that sometimes I wish some characters in a story hadn't died, but it's just one story and that might not even have been the thing that makes or breaks it
>>
>>65429006
And that's my ultimate point: people don't like tragedy because of the tragic elements, they like the stories despite them. Tragedy diminishes people's enjoyment of the story, and the purpose of a story is to be enjoyable, to entertain. I'm just slightly more extreme in my distaste of those tragic elements than most. And it's not just that I dislike the stories, I also feel annoyed that the author of the story decided to ruin something that I could have otherwise enjoyed.

>masochistic
It's not my suffering, it's other (fictional) people's suffering. There's nothing wrong with enjoying that. Especially when they brought it upon themselves.
>>
>>65429018
I feel strongly empathise the characters in stories that I experience. I share their misery. It's probably easier for detached, cold people with stunted emotions, though.

I've done this for a while, see. And I've come to the conclusion that there are two kinds of people that enjoy tragic elements in stories: those who lack empathy, and those who enjoy being miserable. All the rest don't enjoy tragedy, but can stomach it if the story is otherwise good, though it does diminish their enjoyment.

As an example, when I point out to people that Spike doesn't die in the ending of Bebop since there was only one star extinguishing (Vicious's), they usually say something along the lines of "ahhh, that makes it a lot better".

But Edgerunners did none of that. If anything, it proudly displayed the corpses of the main cast in full display, and greatly diminished the value of the story. It's a bad story.
>>
>>65429017
>people don't like tragedy because of the tragic elements, they like the stories despite them
That's just plain false. I don't really like misery porn stories where everyone gets raped left and right and everything is shit, but there's nothing wrong with a little tragedy
>>
>>65429048
>misery porn stories where everyone gets raped left and right and everything is shit,
That fits Edgerunners to a T, doesn't it?
>but there's nothing wrong with a little tragedy
Well, maybe you're one of the people in category A or B.
>>
>>65429047
It can also serve as an emotional rollercoaster, providing contrast to the happier days.
>>
>>65429056
Nah, Edgerunners is all sunshine and rainbows in comparison to some of the shit that exists. I think the ending was a little fucked but that's because it's set before the game, and you can't have the characters running around anymore really. I recognize it had to do with not painting themselves into a corner more than making misery porn
>>
>>65419704
>they kill off most of the main cast in the show
this is only a problem if it's written badly
for a perhaps more controversial take, the same applies to politics
>>
>>65429075
But a rollercoaster gives you a thrill. It doesn't fluctuate between making you excited and bored, or happy and miserable. The entire rollercoaster ride is a "high" to contrast your normal "low". A tragic story is not equivalent to a rollercoaster. I reject the notion that killing off the cast at the end of the story enhances it in any way.

>>65429076
>Nah, Edgerunners is all sunshine and rainbows in comparison to some of the shit that exists.
The story's writer has stated that his intent was to make people feel sad, and that qualifies as misery porn in my books. Sure there are probably worse offenders out there, but that doesn't improve Edgerunners.

>>65429110
I disagree, it's still a problem. Particularly bad writing just makes it worse.
>>
>>65429110
For some books/shows it's kind of a cop-out in its own right to kill everyone IMO, but there are also shows that pull punches too much so it evens out
>>
>>65429017
There's different levels of enjoying things. Sometimes you watch a story and it's miserable but also really memorable, or profound, or meaningful or beautiful in some way that transcends the immediate sense of fun. And grabbing on emotional heartstrings and yanking on them is a necessary part of how it achieves it and it simply wouldn't be the same art if you rewrote a happy ending.
Personally, I only like to see it if the show is actually good. The average 5/10 weeb show doesn't deserve to punch me in the gut to heighten the emotional experience of their cartoon or to make a narrative point. But some media does.
>>
>>65419704

>>65429047
Edgerunners isn't a tragedy. If it had wrapped up about halfway though it might have been a tragedy. By the end though, it's a bunch of self-deluded, narcissistic sociopaths getting themselves killed because of ego.
>>
>>65429163
>Edgerunners isn't a tragedy. If it had wrapped up about halfway though it might have been a tragedy. By the end though, it's a bunch of self-deluded, narcissistic sociopaths getting themselves killed because of ego.
its basically the point, only way to become a legend in NC is to go out in a blaze of glory
there is no backing down
its kinda neat because it was the way you could 'immortalize' your characters in the tabletop game once a campaign concluded, adam smasher was basically the DM's 'fuck this, its over' or 'you fucked around too much or got too OP' magic fix button, you got too good or derailed the campaign and the DM would summon adam smasher and kill you
>>
>>65429178
Ironically Pondsmith has pointed out that it's actually not that difficult for well-geared players to kill Smasher.
>>
>>65429161
I have a really hard time imagining a situation where feeling miserable could be twisted into something I would find enjoyable. A character that dies, fails. There is no beauty in failure, or glory in sacrifice. I'll give you one thing, though, it can be very memorable. It's been, what, half a decade since Edgerunner finished airing, right? My hate towards the show or its writers hasn't diminished one bit. Being memorable is not necessarily a good thing.
>>
>>65428856
It's not about wanting to feel sad. Edgerunners ends on a bittersweet note. There's lots of sadness within the show, but there's also lots of joy. There's still hope and happiness at the end of it. Like I said, the lows make the highs even better. If you watch to the end, you will be able to smile. When people look back at the story, they remember all of the good times the cast had together. Just because most of them don't get perfect endings doesn't negate the bonds and triumphs they had throughout their journey. The main characters shoot for the moon. Though most don't make it, some of them do, and the trials and tribulations they face on the way to it is what makes the watch worth it. It's not misery porn.
>>
>>65429263
That sounds exactly like the bog standard eulogy priests deliver at a funeral. Unfortunately, I'm still going to regard the death of a person I knew as an entirely negative occurrence, no matter how neatly you spin it. And yes, a character whose life I know intimately is like a person I know in real life. Them dying does not help me appreciate the story in any way. And why should it? The story could have been great. They shot for the moon, and they succeeded, how exciting! The only reason why they didn't is because the writer was a sadist who wanted people to feel sad.

Do you think you would have been unable to enjoy the story if the main cast of characters had survived?
>>
>>65429289
Okay, you're just a fucking retard. Don't watch it, you're just missing out because you only focus on the negative in things. I don't know how stupid you have to be to not understand the journey being more important than the end or the start.
>>
>>65429289
>They shot for the moon, and they succeeded, how exciting! The only reason why they didn't is because the writer was a sadist who wanted people to feel sad.
Kek, OK, I genuinely don't understand
>>
>>65429321
And I don't know how masochistic you have to be to enjoy an ending where almost all of the cast died.
>Don't watch it
I unfortunately cannot un-watch it. But it did teach me an important lesson, and that is to never again get involved with a story without first going through full plot spoilers. And that policy has saved me a lot of time, frustration and money.

>>65429331
I thought it was quite simple. The characters could have succeeded without dying, and it would have been a good story. I would have enjoyed it, you would still have enjoyed it, and we'd both be happy. The only reason it didn't happen is because the writer was retarded.

Bruh, BL conclusively ended after the first 4 episodes. Or was it 5? Whatever. The show finished with the cigarette lighting scene between Rock and Levy.

Everything else after that is just nonsense filler fluff that it is so bad I'm not sure more people do not come to this conclusion. Battle maidos? Vampires? The tone takes such a drastic shift I'ma not sure how people are this deaf to it. The studio wanted to do a short story about modern day pirates and masterfully concluded everything in a couple of episodes.
>>
>>65429354
I don't know why you're so upset that I don't share your masochistic kink.
>>
>>65429343
>The characters could have succeeded without dying, and it would have been a good story.
Mmyeah maybe, characters dying doesn't fit every kind of story. But in risky endeavours, especially if it's a series, you should kill off characters on occasion or it just looks like there are no stakes. Not saying kill off the main cast necessarily, but I've been reading this sci-fi romance series (sue me) where in 7 parts only one named character who's been around since the beginning died AND it wasn't even during the brutal alien invasion
It's starting to look like the main cast is immortal

I'm not completely on the other guys side, but bittersweet fucking sucks. Bittersweet is the combination of suffering and blind hope
>>
>>65429417
It certainly does take a lot of skill to pull a story where it feels like the characters are challenged and that there's a looming threat of failure. I personally don't mind even if the main character is overpowered and not even challenged, but not every story can be like that.

I think Lord of the Rings had a perfect amount of challenge and stakes. I know it's kind of hard to think back on it now that we know the story by heart, but when I first read it as a teenager, I definitely didn't feel like it was obvious that everyone aside from Boromir was going to survive.

>>65429423
What has emotional control have to do with it? I can manage my emotions, and my pain tolerance is high. But I still don't enjoy being in pain, so why would I seek it out?

i like stories where everyone dies, stories where some people die, and happy stories where everyone has a good time.
i simply don't have to dilate every single time muematsu deathflagitsu gets raped to death by dickmonsters in my favourite anime.
the nigger is really talking about consuming passive media that makes him feel icky as if it's physical torture, i just couldn't get over how ridiculous that was and had to make fun of him for a bit, my bad.

Over a decade later watching Puella Magi Madoka Magi I realized Madoka was about the same age as Shinji and I had to admit it was completely reasonable for someone age 13 or 14 to be scared and freeze or run away and maybe cry like a little kid if faced with death since they are kids.

Jin-Roh's main problem is that everyone's first exposure to it these days is clips shared on social media, resulting in their first impression being that it's about dudes in armor mowing people down with machine guns
the only ones who go on to pick it up are the ones who wanted a hardcore action film, who inevitably end up disappointed, while the people who'd actually be interested in the interservice intrigue might pass on it without even realize what they're missing; end result is that everyone misses out
(the second biggest problem is just how heavy-handed it is with the red riding hood motif)

Like a lot of classic anime, this one suffers from not being available on any streaming services so people aren’t really watching it. The average person isn’t pirating stuff and watching it on a computer screen anymore. Serial Experiments Lain and the one about the girls with the invisible arms (can’t remember the name) also suffer from the same problem.
>>
>>65446263

I love Elfen Lied so, so, so fucking much even though it really is just slop. It is depressing to hear that other zoom zooms haven't watched it because they need to suckle at the teat of netflix and crunchyroll, though.

It's especially interesting to me you bring those two up because I know for a fact that a cohort of zoomers is super into the Y2K aesthetic, and both Lain and EL reek of it.

What makes an anime /k/?
Even though it’s a type of anime a lot of people don’t like, “The World's Finest Assassin Gets Reincarnated in Another World as an Aristocrat” was surprisingly cool.
The mc uses his magic to basically just summon big ass howitzers and cannons and nukes his enemies.
He also summons a sniper sometimes like pic related.
>>
>>65446263
>The average person isn’t pirating stuff and watching it on a computer screen anymore
The thing is that you can find some pretty good stuff for free on Internet Archive, which isn't even remotely a pirating site. The thing is that kids these days would rather conveniently watch JJK or Chainsaw Man or something on Crunchyroll or whatever rather than spend 2 minutes on IA to find Desert Punk

>>65446316
>What makes an anime /k/?
If it involves firearms and is enjoyed by /k/ommandos, it's /k/.
>>
>>65446263
It's really funny when someone calls something like elfen lied classic anime and you know full well it's cause they watched it when they were 14.
Anyway the zoomers are watching the remake version anyway, it's not like it's lost its cultural presence.
>>65446334
Desert punk is on crunchyroll.
I'll say that streaming really is double edged sword though. It makes watching anime very easy, but locks you in a kiddy pool and doesn't teach you how to find anything else. Even having every streaming service available still leaves you without so many great shows, god forbid watching anything slightly forgotten.
>>

IMO /k/ changed forever in 2012, after Newton. It was never AS fun and creative on average after that. Didn't suck, but it was lesser. Then 2016 and 2020 both had their effects.

Russian invasion of Ukraine flooded the fuck out of this board, and made it just about unusable, but it seems most of that traffic has actually vanished, and now the board is kinda slow, which I think is actually pretty nice, allows for slower paced discussions with people who give more of a fuck.

I agree but probably 100 is more reasonable . 20-30 to work through the classics and then another 70-80 to get your fill of trash, hidden gems, cultural waypoints, and popular shit.

They did their own music for the dub as well (for whatever reason), and it's pretty good.

I did actually! That's most of the reason I like it despite it's very obvious flaws. That ending is just.. burned into my memory like Muv-Luv Alternative.

>Hardly /k/ at all
How so? Just because most of it is political, doesn't exclude the fact that the battles are unbelievably well animated and realistic feeling. It's one of the only anime I've ever watched where I could for the most part suspend disbelief in the combat I was watching. Even the whacky shit like them hacking each other to death with battleaxes was at least very visually gratifying, even if kinda hammy.

...Yes? CoaDE exists, what do you mean by this anon?
>>
>>65457991
LoGH doesn't look like CoadE ergo it's not realistic in the slightest
>>

Certainly leagues more realistic than Gundam or Macross. You act like if it isn't solely RKV-spam in the black abyss of space all the time it's not /k/ nor can it at least attempt realism.
Do you have a diagnosis for autism, perchance?

Even CoaDE is unrealistic because the ships have crew numbers comparable to Earth ships when they would be at least mostly automated
And no I don't have the 'tism, just that if you want to make unrealistic space battles cool it should look like Star Wars or Freespace with emphasis on fighter action. Only navalfags want muh boring broadsides in space

>They did their own music
Bubblegum Crisis had all the songs re-recorded in English.

For the youtubers content I enjoy, after watching new video, I open it in private window with adblocker off and scrub through it to go through some ads.
