They would have been much better UMPK FAB trucks than Su-34's

They'd also all be dead by now even if they'd been around in 2022 because Russia can't seem to stop Ukraine from hitting their airbases and they refuse to invest in hardened shelters or even basic revetments. Maybe China can loan them a few H-6s in exchange for energy rights or something.

Theyd be getting swatted out of the sky too often trying to use them for glide bomb duty. Not saying the ukies would manage to knock one down every mission or anything, but losing a jet or two like that even once a quarter is a big loss

Tu-16 would be able to carry 3 glide bombs: 2 under wing pylons, one in the bomb bay. Multiply bombs pylons in a bomb bay cant carry glide bombs because of the wing kit size.

Not really, Su-34's are much more maneuverable, and that counts more than bomb payload when operating near the front.

The Chinese upgraded and heavily modified their Badgers. I just don't think the Russians have the ability to do that

Today I learned that only 3 Countries bother with strat bombers nowadays (US, Russia, China). Neat.

My naive friend, shit is retired in USSR/russia not because it's deemed worse or anything but because it can no longer be kept working despite all resources poured in.

After the fall of the USSR, the Russians literally wanted to get rid of their entire strategic bomber fleet due to lack of funds and would use only Silos and TEL for nuclear deterrance. It was Putin who saved It during the last minute after he flew inside the Tu-160.
Now Tu-95 and Tu-160 are the nuclear deterrance, Tu-22M is an antiship bomber, and Su-34 is carrying out the "tactical/regional" bomber role

I sometimes dream of German B-21's.

I'm not trying to agitate, but that story sounds like BS.

To be fair, strategic bombers are effectively useless in the nuclear deterrence role now. They’ve been useless really since the Nike Ajax was developed because you can now just shoot them down en masse well before they get within striking distance. At that point, the only way to use them would be carrying carrying nuclear-tipped cruise missiles (and they would still have to fly within interception range to launch those).
