>best
Best for practical carrying is the .44. The action requires enough power to cycle it but you also don't want rounds that are so powerful that you can't aim it. Additionally, too much recoil and it won't cycle right because it likes to be perfectly level the whole time you shoot.
>popular despite its design
>despite
The design is half the appeal, in addition to it being one of very few high-caliber semi-auto handguns.
>why did cartels carry it
Same reason they like Dragon Ball and oversized pickup trucks down there. It's big and powerful and that makes them feel macho.
>Israel vs American??
What are you asking here? The company is American, for a little while DEs were manufactured in Israel.

I will also say, even as someone who carried a .44 DE every day for years, you really have no reason to do it unless you live somewhere with extant megafauna like Alaska. The main tactical benefit to the DE is that it is equally good for fighting cousinfuckers as it is for stopping an attack from extant megafauna, so you don't need to keep a long gun handy unless you feel like it. If you don't have extant megafauna in your area that are comfortable entering human habitats, you probably don't need a DE for practical carry and could just get the .50AE because that's the one people think is sexy.

>.44 is functionally identical in performance to .50AE
I know you'll wiggle out of this with 'functionally identical' and claim you didn't say 'identical' but .50 AE delivers roughly 35% to 45% more kinetic energy. .50 AE loads reach 1,300 to 1,400 fps easily with heavier 325gr, while pushing a .44 to 1,200 fps takes maximum effort with standard 300gr limits. In 'casual shooting' environment, there is probably not much noticeable difference (there is a difference, but not noticeable) but .50AE retains a clear physical edge in muzzle energy and barrier penetration, which is key in a self-defence situation.

However, .50AE is a pretty niche round, so is more expensive and .44 does have better recoil management ability. So, .44 is probably the better all round round.

.357 mag one is best, I have the best reliability with it, and it’s the most fun and pleasant to shoot, magazines say 9 on the side, actually hold 10, and a 10+1 .357 magnum isn’t something to fuck with. I have all the calibers besides .429 or whatever and .357 mag and .50AE are the winners. My .44 mag barrel tears case necks and jams after a couple mags, idk I guess I need to take a dremel and polishing wheel and some flitz to the feed ramp or something.

Come on, anon. You're considering a large, heavy, (mostly) unreliable gimmick of a gun. The only reason someone would choose something other than 50AE is cost, and if cost is a concern, why the fuck are you even thinking about one of these?

Instead, ask yourself why you want one. They're impractical, they're expensive, they're finicky about ammunition, and it's common for them not to run properly out of the box. Are you an autistic tinkerer with a decent amount of disposable income and you enjoy big guns? If you're not in the middle of that particular Venn diagram, there are better options.

There are in fact no better options, no other semi automatic pistol does caliber switching like the Desert Eagle does. Also does your dumbass realize that if you do have multiple barrels, it’s likely you have spent $500-$1,200 a barrel, plus the bolts and magazines. That you have spent more than any .50 AE Desert Eagle owner will have ever spend on ammo, making the virgin 1 caliber .50 AE Desert Eagle owner most likely a fag who buys things for clout.

>Per the State Bureau of Investigation review, District Attorney Todd Williams said Dunlap pulled over to assist the driver, Wesley Taylor, of Leicester, and smelled alcohol on his breath. According to Williams, the interaction changed once Trooper Dunlap asked Taylor to take an alcohol test.

>“At that point, some friction erupted,” Williams said. “And Mr. Taylor went into his car and Trooper Dunlap assumed that he was getting other tools to get his tire back on, get his wheel back on, and emerged with a .44 Magnum Desert Eagle.”

>At that point, Taylor pulled the trigger, shooting Dunlap in the chest. The bullet was stopped by the trooper’s bulletproof vest, where it remained lodged, Williams said. Dunlap then quickly pulled his gun from its holster and returned fire, killing Taylor.

For a semi-auto the Deagle is pretty fun but its not a reliable sidearm in any stretch. Once you shoot more than 20 rounds your likely to encounter the slide failing to go into battery without a tap on its ass due to all the fouling. The newer US made ones also have a setscrew in the chamber area where the bolt lugs interact which can come loose and jam up the gun.

Its a BBQ gun first and foremost (at least in .50AE) and I would look into wheels guns for serious big bore needs.

None of this is true in my experience, this a symptom of having something of out spec or a flake of copper or lead somewhere it shouldn’t be. I can shoot at least 200 rounds of .357 mag, or 70-100 rounds of .50AE before I got stoppages, and it never fails to go into battery, the most common one is the trigger bar gets gritty and stops resetting.

it's a 5lb (loaded) gas operated rotating bolt handgun shooting fuckin 300~ grain projectiles, It's amazing it doesn't beat itself to death in 2 magazines. If its just getting dirty and jamming up that's one thing, if its beating itself into submission after 70 rounds and becomes mechanically non-functional... THEN the gun sucks

it getting dirty is just kinda part of the process, yes I know you can put 10k rounds through a glock and it wont jam.. is the glock a massive steel framed gas operated rotating bolt hand cannon? no? that's why

>There are in fact no better options, no other semi automatic pistol
If your requirement is a big bore pistol that must be an autoloader, your requirement is a meme and you're retarded. If your requirement is for a reliable powerful pistol, there are in fact better options. Picrel is the one that I take in the woods because I know that it will work. That monstrosity with the molycoated frame and barrel that I posted earlier is the range toy that it is, because I don't mind slapping a range toy into battery on occasion.
>gibberish follows
I'm not sure what argument you're trying to make here. If it's something about being poor, don't buy a deagle. They're not for poor people. It's an admittedly very fun toy for people with money that like tinkering, as I said earlier.

>>65435079
>this a symptom of having something of out spec or a flake of copper or lead somewhere it shouldn’t be.
This is not the own that you think that it is.
>or 70-100 rounds of .50AE before I got stoppages, and it never fails to go into battery

>>65435956
They have a jam every 2 magazines for people that own them. They never jam for people that have never shot one. And that 2 magazines per jam rule is for 50AE. .44 is significantly worse. I proudly remember the day where I got mine to the point where it would reliably make it through an entire mag of .44 without any problems.

>>65439900
Ah, yes...the mythical deagle that just worked right out of the box. I've heard about it many times over the years but I have yet to see it in person. I've been shown deagles that supposedly were good ones but as well as they ran for their owners, they always seemed to have problems when other people were watching. I classify "good" deagles with sub-MoA AK's - in any discussion about them someone will claim to have one, but no one has ever actually seen one. I'm glad that you like yours though. I like mine too for what it is.
>they run fine if they're cleaned and oiled
>and if you hold them just right
>and if you find ammo that they like
>no, not that ammo, it has to be jacketed
>and if the recoil springs haven't loosened up
>and if the recoil springs aren't too stiff
>and there are no burrs on the frame
>and if you got a good one, which people claim exist but no one can show me one
This is a longwinded way of saying that the gun is a poorly designed, poorly made, overpriced piece of shit whose only claims to fame are a being a large autoloader and being marketed via aggressive product placement. I like mine as a range toy, but I would never, ever even consider carrying one in any serious capacity. It'll go bang on the first trigger pull but after that, it's anyone's guess what will happen. That doesn't work for me for anything outside of range use.

The Deagle has been memed to death but honestly, it should have been a respectable niche gun. It was the first real non-revolver magnum that was widely available. Hollywood never really understood magnums in the first place and how impractical such a weapon can be but with the Deagle it was even worse. Consequently the general public and game devs do not know better either. It doesn't deserve more respect but it does deserve less hate.

Successful only in terms of marketing, both handgun and 50AE simply existed to support the claim it was the most powerful in the world. Jews in the US were very proud of their uniquely American achievement.

Most people got them in .44, as they were for show anyway and the .44 was a better caliber in every respect. Today you will see as many clones in .22 with lightened slides. I got held up by Turkish intelligence who had what I can only assume was a clone.

Original production moved from isreal to the US back and forth for commercial reasons. Isrealis like to own the isreali ones. US production quality was apparently marginally better. So say Americans, who like the one with U,S and A on them.

It's neither a hunting handgun, or a stopping pistol, or suitable for self defence against large game. All three are fairly neiche to begin with.
Ruger/500/sig 40 being choices for these I've heard from actual users.
>>
>>65441089
The gun had no legitimate use case and the marketing challenged both the small group of serious handgun hunters, and emasculated duty carriers who knew full well the deagle was trash.

Developmentally it was a dead end, joined by the .44 automag.
