I visited the National Naval Aviation Museum today in Pensacola, FL. I'll post some pics I took. I took pics of some placards but planes aren't really my autism area when it comes to /k/ related things so I can't tell you what many of these are if you ask.
>>65438283Fuck, hopefully not all the vertical pics are sideways. I'm not editing these.
>>65438268What was your favorite plane? I really like the Guadalcanal exhibit. Did you see if they put the paintings back up in hangar bay one?
>>65438268OP is lying he went to the National Anal Fascination Museum
>>65438268lol I used to work at nas PensacolaAlways wanted one of those leather flight jackets in the gift shop
>>65438295Sadly we didn't visit hangar bay one, at least if that's the one with the more modern stuff. Wife wanted to do some other stuff today and we tried to keep an itinerary. Honestly this vacation is more for her than me, I'm planning a solo trip out west in October to visit the Trinity site and some other stuff so I'm trying to do as much as she wants to do this trip. Anyway my favorite was the bubble helicopter like they used in M*A*S*H but a lot of stuff was cool.
>>65438307I love sniffing their assholes while I'm eating from the back.>>65438317I did not see bomber jackets. I was upset they were out of WWII plane posters, had to settle for a WWI planes poster. This fucker was huge.
>>65438325Before I left they had cockpit USA shearling bomber jackets in there but they were like $5-600
Also hangar bay one may have been closed, pretty sure the old autistic dude said the other building may be closed when we went in.
>>65438328Goddamn. Wife got me the poster and a booklet for pressed pennies. I pressed all 4 available pennies.
>>65438318>at least if that's the one with the more modern stuffYeah, and fair enough, I used to stand duty a lot there waiting for flight school so I got to spend a lot of time there. They had an art gallery in the upper floor of the main building but the last time I went there about two months ago and it looked like they were moving the art. There's a painting of a pair of F-4Us in the clouds during the sunset I've been trying to find the name of so I could get a print of it.
Also I'm currently laying in bed in the hotel room and am probably gonna fall asleep before I get all these pics posted.
>>65438338>pressed pennieshell yeah
>>65438341I could have spent all day there honestly, so much cool shit and I know I missed a lot. This is our first trip to the Gulf, we plan on coming back.
>>65438347Hell yeah.
>>65438360ok all the vertical pics are fucked>payback enterprises
>>65438362lol it’s vfa31, I’ve worked with them
>>65438367Yeah it's just a dumb old /k/ reference
>>65438354Come back when the Blues are practicing if you want a close up show.
Ok I'm fucking dead I'm going to sleep, will post more tomorrow if it's still alive.
>>65438394They are supposed to practice Tuesday/Wed from what I read but idk. They were flying planes but no angels.
>>654383624chan strips exif data out of photos, presumably to stop people from doxxing themselves accidentally. unfortunately that also means that photos loose their orientation too.
>>65438522I see. I once again slept like shit in a hotel bed. Headed to New Orleans today. Thanks for reading my blog post.
>>65438268Gawd A-4s are so sexy.
>>65439215>>65439224Why is the FJ-3 screaming?
>>65438407Yeah its where NFOs (the backseater) do their training.
>>65439588
>>65439170D-Day Museum?
>>65440880I wish. We went to cafe du monde and then walked around the French quarter. I was looking for a particular elongated penny machine (pic related) and couldn't find it. Ended up using the two at cafe du monde. Also we had a dolphin cruise scheduled for 5:30 where we are staying and it got rained out for the second day in a row. If I had known I would have spent more time in NOLA.
>>65438268Great thread, OP. Thanks!
Fuck yeah. Thank you for this bounty.
I've got more I'm just fucking dead. Randomly woke up at 4:30 am so I'll post a few more to bump it.
>>65441139>>65441250I remember when 4chan didn't have a gay ass captcha and image dumps were a lot easier.
I've been there too, great museum. Fun fact, you can look up the tail number and find one of the pilots who flow this specific Shiden. He lived until the 90s iirc.
>>65441924Somehow I didn't get pics of that Zero, thanks for adding it.>shidenHarry 'slim' Johnson.
>>65441934>Calling all Japanese planes zeros Commit sudoku immediately.Anyways, that plane had a few pilots, but the one I was thinking of was Matsumura Shouji, on the left in pic. He only passed away in 1997.
>>65441892No captcha and 50 image limit, threads filled up fast. Of course, so did the entire board whenever someone got cranky and needed to spam away...>>65441895Twin engine in navy colour? Let's see... oh, it's the Reaper's great-grandpa.
>>65438268You doxxed yourself Anon, you absolute fool! You failed to scrub the location data from your images, you amateur. You're at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola, Florida...wait.. fuck
Oh shit it's my local museum! Nice!>>65441895>Edna IIIThis is my favorite plane in the whole museum, and the only one remaining in the world. Basically, at the end of WWII we tried to make drones. They all crashed, but it's neat they were trying anyways. Imagine if we didn't develop nukes and ended up droning the Japs 60 years before Iraq/Afghanistan.>>65441924There's a haiku engraved on the tail of that one. I went through my pics but I don't have it.
>>65438318Hangar Bay One is sort of mid desu. The best things in there are the Tricky Dick marine one helictoper and the plane that GWB rode on to the infamous "Mission Accomplished" photo op.Here's another pic of the TLDR.
They also have D-Dog's grandpappy taxidermied.
>>65442129Yeah, like I said in OP, planes aren't my strong suite.
>>65443941Did you read that that's the Coronado that Nimitz himself flew in to accept the Japanese surrender?
Does it have more logistic vehicles?
>>65444058I did not, good thing I'm posting these, learning more than I actually did at the museum.
>>65438268I've been to that one. it was a long time ago and I was pretty young, so I don't remember much.>>65441546>>65441547I've got a photo of me and my family in front of this Me 262, I don't know where it is though.
>folded over 9000 times
This display was about the planes lost during carrier training on lake Michigan.
>>65441005>>65441012>>65441048Glad you included pics of this SBD Dauntless.Context for the other anons: this is one that was used for training in Lake Michigan, but crashed. It was later raised and restored. It's the only known remaining aircraft from the Battle of Midway. It also survived Pearl Harbor. It's in the same area as the Me-262 and Shiden, but off to the side, so it's shockingly easy to miss.
Another Zero.
>>65445602Is that a Tiki Bob Hope?
>>65445828Yes
>>65445848Need to copy, and make a hollowed out version so I can drink Mai-Tais out of.
Ahegao carrier
I do believe this pic concludes the dump.
I would like to point out that they had the HAARP exhibit closed.
>>65445893Thanks for sharing.I've been here more times than I can count since I can visit it so easily, so I know a lot about the exhibits. Forgive me for being an autist and info-dumping here.>>65445657This fat fuck was the first American plane to enter Tokyo Bay during the surrender of Japan.>>65438364This is the U.S. Navy's Curtiss NC-4 which made the "first" trans-Atlantic crossing*. There's a lot of caveats when saying it was the first. Just look up the story.>>65440809This is a Photo Banshee. It has an elongated nose which houses the spy cameras. Basically, it was the U-2 of the Korean War. It's one of 3 left in the world. The fuselage for this one was originally filled with concrete and stuck in a playground (you can see a pic on the placard next to it) for years until someone noticed "Hey! This is actually a really rare plane!">>65445899That's the Flight Adventure Deck. Basically a science exhibit for kids. Went on many a field trip there back in the day.
>>65445996Thanks for the info. Only other pics I got are from the shop in the 'home-front' area.
