how is boot camp in other countries? do they make the drill sergeants haze recruits elsewhere as well?
I have a South-East Asian friend who went through bootcamp in Belgium a few months ago, the drill sergeant constantly called him a "frietchinees" (fry cook chink) among other things. The drill also said "wassup nigga" to the shooting instructor (both are white)
>>65440878>makelolthe DSs are all happy to dish it outwords are just words, if you can't take that pressure for a few months, how can you possibly take the pressure of living in a combat zone for months, where you would be constantly in fear the whole time of a mortar shell or drone or ballistic missile maiming you in the blink of an eye without warningbeing called bad names is a relief compared to thatfar more problematic is hazing by other recruits. even soldiers under aforesaid circumstances have the backing of the people around them. living amongst enemies 24/7 is far more destructive to the psyche than a boss who says nasty words to you>>65441678>South-East Asian>chink)probably Singaporean, in which case the pansy ass probably needed it
>>65441678dis nigga got an ass so fat it needed a helmet
>>65441678wtf heeft die frietchiees daar te zoekenI just hope it's not the halfblood of some boomer whom went and fucked some sea monkey "love you long time" and imported the spawn
>>65441778kek jesus christ, are you telepathic? that's exactly what happened, the boomer left them years ago of course and the mom unironically sounds like the full metal jacket scene you referenced
in russia they rape
>>65441789fucking boomers they are a pox on this place and any place they touchhow I know? I spent a summer working for the Flemish far right party doing odds and ends and the amount of fat boomer fucks with sea monkey wives/kids that were contacting said far right party to fix what ever dumb fuck stupid shit they got them selves into was just mind boggling. "hello I'm living in Thailand because back home is lost. I crashed without wearing a helmet how do I get the social security system to pay form my hospital bills.""Hi I've sponsored my Philippines wife to come live here ( don't worry she's one of the good ones) . how do I get her on the dole, it's not that she doesn't want to work but she doesn't speak the language and never finished high school. I voted for you so you have to help me." "I've ordered a free flag yesterday, why haven't I got it yet btw I live in phuket" total boomer death
>>65441821>boomerGen X
>>65441821>Flemish far right partynice>living in Thailand because back home is lostabsolutely mindblowing, sure there are a lot of things to hate about this country (ooit op een lijnbus gezeten? deprimerend) but i can't imagine moving to some third world shithole out of protest. the boomer mind really is something else
>>65440878My platoon's drill instructor had a picture of sgt Hartmann from Full Metal Jacket printed out and framed in his office on base. Needless to say he tried to larp as him at every opportunity.

>>65441963Didn't Hartmanns actor specifically make his character fuck up repeatedly?
>>65441778Knowing english and a bit german, reading dutch always makes me feel like im having a stroke
>>65442166Do you really expect that kind of shit to not be completely lost on your average DI?
>>65442166Hartmann was a bad DI and the kind of leader that puts recruits in the dryer.
>>65442166IIRC it was more like he did get the job done but didnt produce good Marines out of it or something. Like no 1 single action barring some of the physical assaults [different era tho] were incorrect, but the latter phases where the Marines are supposed to be built back up as a cohesive unit with strong support was lacking. I've seen good cop/bad cop routines done today and that can work but it felt more like he was doing one of those prison boot camps where the goal was to break them of bad habits than it was to produce Marines. >FWIW he's in another called the Boys of Company C or something IIRC and while not Mr Rogers, is probably a lot more realistic in how he actually was.
>>65443970A Senior DI is supposed to be the bit of relief you give recruits. They're almost like second father figures. Hartman was a piece of shit as as Senior DI. That's just now how you do it, then or now.
>>65442166We've had 40 years of DIs trying to emulate Hartmann. While ignoring the fact Hartmann gets murdered by on of recruits in the end.FMJ dose an excellent job of showing why having every DI be the bad cop is retarded and encourages recruits to hide problems.
>>65442166He talks about it in an interview. IIRC he was an instructor for the marines and it was based around what they were doing at the time. I think he mentions that some of it was because they were dealing with conscripted men, boys really, and had less time to train them so they did what they thought was best to make them ready for combat. Which didn't mean that made good soldiers.
The real redpill is that the prussian model of military training just plain sucks. It's the "real communism has never been tried" of training where the constant fuckups fail to validate the method.
>>65443975It was anti-war propaganda after all. The senior DI relationship didn't need to be shown for that. Especially since they didn't have any green belt junior drill instructors in the film to show the contrast.>>65444136That makes sense.
>>65444170>It was anti-war propaganda after all/thread
>>65440878I've heard that in European armies there is less emphasis on the "drill" and more on the "instructor" part, ie they aren't as screamy and they don't bully recruits as hardBut that's mostly a cosmetic thing, I doubt the actual curriculum and day-to-day is substantially different
>>65440878Only in thirdie shitholes trying to imitate america thinking hazing recruits is the reason behind their success. The rest of the world is respectful to their recruits. Yes yelling exists, punishments exist, unrealistically high expectations exist, but yelling at someone just for the sake of yelling at someone doesn't, you're not learning anything from having someone spitting in your face and have you scream aye sir back. There's much better ways to instil dicipline than screaming at someone an inch or two away from their face.
>>65445050It took the bongs centuries of mutinies to figure that out, they didn't think of efficiency or long term strategy, they just wanted their toy soldiers doing whatever they wanted on a whim
>>65444136>they were dealing with conscripted men, boys really, and had less time to train themyeah 18 year olds fresh from school are still in puberty, are not used to order or working in a "company" and they dont actually want to be there, so you have to be firm or else they will turn it into a clown show. they will also genuinely not know how to make their bed or do laundry or clean their room, because they have never done that before. they are also used from school to do half assed jobs, because in school that just means you get slightly worse grades, but you still pass. if you tell them that they need to know 100% of a text by the letter and by heart, it totally blows their mind. they expect if they can recite 70% its good enough and they will get a C for it like in school.
>>65445050>>65445078people freezing up in emergencies under pressure is a thing. i work as a paramedic and i had multiple incidents of freezing up and suddenly not remembering what to do during my first real emergencies as a trainee. ive seen it in others as well. some guys get shaky hands to the point where they can no longer insert an iv needle even though they have done it 60 times already in calmer situations. the only thing that helps with that is learning by heart and under immense stress, if you can do a procedure while two guys are screaming at you, interrupting you and trying to distract you and its loud and uncomfortable, you will be able to do it in real life emergecencies as well.
>>65445097desu i would imagine it's important to get people used to stressful situations but in ways that aren't "yell at and beat recruits randomly for no particular reason"
Oldfag Bong here, no not the Full Metal Jacket ooo-rah nonsense. There's shouting and press ups but in the British Army there's a premium on the staff crushing recruits through comedy and playground banter. That's not to say you don't get bad apples or that things were always good but you get more leeway to be an adult and the training staff want to see a mix of discipline, a little insubordination and everyone being frens. What has always surprised me is that apparently Americans get issued with underwear during basic and you can't have anything of your own like a speaker. >hazeNo. But you will be expected to maintain professional standards when you go from training to your regiment, many a young recruit has been filled-in for not knowing the game with shit like how long their hair is or generally for being a mong. Usually from the guys whose wives also seem afraid of them.>>65444136This tracks with what I've seen. We have a Bermuda regiment that was made up with conscription up until very recently and they were always terrified of their NCOs. I'm certain that things went on behind closed doors that wouldn't fly in a courtroom even though it was a reservist force. It's the same with Bulgarians and Turks having a suicide problem or all the reported cases of Turk-on-Turk rape being witnessed in Cyprus from binos.>>65441766>words are just words, if you can't take that pressure for a few months, how can you possibly take the pressure of living in a combat zone for months, where you would be constantly in fear the whole time of a mortar shell or drone or ballistic missile maiming you in the blink of an eye without warning>being called bad names is a relief compared to thatThere's a difference between shouting at people to motivate them and just being a dickhead. >>65445097That's done with the most difficult field exercises. You don't need everyday to be bayonet training and it certainly won't work in the classrooms.
