>1998
>red dot
I know they existed and were used during black hawk down 5 years prior and umbrella would have the resources to give their guys red dots, but the gun decisions in RE2make and 3 make are really soulless. Kind of weird how they made all the guns in 2make and 3make modern but they made like half of the guns in 9 unreasonably retro for 2026. A beretta M1934 for a "standard issue" handgun for security, a sig 232 for concealed carry in 2018 or 2026. I guess the Uzi must have been in Racoon City since at least 1998, but BSAA using a M1A over a SCAR or AR-10/AR308 is weird, I've never seen an M1A get through an entire high power match without malfunctioning. Also kind of weird that Victor had a Winchester Model 70 sitting in his office that in theory could be as old as the first game since it's from a 1992-2006 production run. Grace joins REmake Claire in being very /k/. RE2make Claire was open carrying a revolver Chris must have bought her because, presumably what ever state racoon city is in lets 18 year olds OC but only 21+ get a ccw. The Sig 232's description in RE9 said Grace spent her first paycheck on it for self defense

On some level I agree, but RE3 had a full sopmod M4 issued to corporate security before it was even widespread among the SF it was designed for; they've always been fast and loose with this shit.

What I don't get is that tasers were introduced in 1993, yet the special forces unit didn't bring any even though they had specific orders to capture the target alive.

MP5/10's. Sig 552's or FNC's, fuck even R5's.
>why
Umbrella Security Service had shittons of Eastern European personnel, and the AK manual of arms plus the bomb proof reliability would be far better than the M4.
>>
>>65441676
I took a look at the imfdb page and there genuinely isn’t a single gun in re2make that’s anachronistic in 1998. You are complaining about nothing OP
>>
>>65441739
Even then, that setup is only anachronistic by a couple years. The game takes place in 1998, and the CQBR entered service in 2000. It’s plausible that umbrella, a mega corporation, could have contracted some early.

I know it's technically in spec because I looked up geissele's manual and the first stage is 3.2-5lbs and the second is 0.5-1.5 lbs. so IDK why they factory installed it at 5/1.5 lbs

That's not what he's saying at all. What he's saying is that Hunk is the tacticool version of a fudd. He's an old man in a young man's game, and become convinced that the way he did things when he was 23 are still the best, or at least good enough, because otherwise he'd be dead.

The kind of guy too set in his ways to get with the times, but everyone lets him get away with it because he's a veteran.

>>65443742
Not based on og 2, he had a stock mp5, in the 4th survivor he had standard weapons as well. It was retconed later that he was a more modern high speed low drag fag, hell his og kit is a gey jump suit with a ballistic vest, a bump helmet, and a gas mask. He was equipped for a quick in and out covert action into a company controlled location against soft targets not an ongoing outbreak.
>>
>>65443731
the series has gone on too long and become too self-referential. hunk had a knife in RE2 because he got btfod and lost his weapons, not because he intentionally chose to carry just a knife, this has been over time abstracted into him being a flamboyant knife-obsessed weirdo; leading to how he appears in Requiem where instead of callously shooting Leon in the head (as was his original characterization), he insists on a duel.
>>
>>65443884
thats exactly what he was saying, hes dressed in full 90s VBSS getup, which was top of the line at the time. youre projecting this notion of gear hipsterism onto a guy wearing entirely contemporary equipment.

Anything Japper runs exclusively off Rule of Cool. ESPECIALLY vidya. Resident Evil stands out for having customized weaponry for the protagonists long before most western media. The Samurai Edges and MGS3's 1911 are very well thought out, practical designs that could've been created within the time period.

>>65443898
Hunk was literally the best of the best during RE2. None of the big name protags had done more than escape the mansion/RC by that point. No one stays at the absolute top of the game (the game being solo fighting your way through hundreds of highly dangerous bioweapons) without being able to adapt and evolve with changing conditions and equipment.
>>
>>65443908
Uh, yes? There was nothing hipster or retrograde about that outfit in 1998.
>>
>>65443996
I dont dispute that, but how does any of that relate to what I posted?
>>
>>65444003
What's the complaint exactly? Is it SOVL enough or is it not practical enough? I think the logical answer is Jappers making vidya in the mid-late 90's probably didn't care about being realistic, they wanted to put in guns they saw in magazines and movies they thought were neat. With 30 years having passed, and every third game being operator slop, they want to be fedora tippy now.
>>
>>65444008
I dont have a complaint, I just object to the notion that hunk was intentionally using older less practical equipment, since he's not using anything unusual for a well equipped swat team of the time period; as somebody who is old enough to remember the 90s.
>>
RE9 did a better job than previous games at having the guns have the right ammo. the only notable exceptions are both of Grace's hand guns are .380 but use the same ammo as Leon's which are 9mm, but the box says .355, which could be either. And there are 3 enemy guns that are only used as bonus mode guns that use the wrong ammo. a torus judge, MCX and machine pistol
>>
>>65444020
Hey, I remember the 90s too, and your average swat team didn't have red dots

By red dot you mean a red laser sight? Or some specific brand I suppose? I feel like red optics have been around for a very long time, well before the late 1990s
>>
>>65444696
It's not about something just existing, it's about whether or not they were around enough to be widely used and not just in a few examples that weren't even real combat, just training. It's like the lazer sight from terminator, yes it existed, but NO ONE had them or was using them.
