Someone seriously told me that a BB gun is more effective at stopping an intruder than a real firearm.

This is the same moron who has said such idiotic things that when I've relayed their words to other people, they think I'm making it up

I am feeling a range of emotions right now
>>
>bug spray is an effective way to stop a criminal

why are you talking to such a retard

One of my coworkers in my former dead end retail job
>having a group conversation about celebrating new years and how some people would shoot their guns into the air
>someone mentions being worried about the bullet coming down and hurting someone
>I start explaining terminal velocity and how it probably wouldn’t kill anyone
>some old white lady in the back asks “wait, the bullets come back down…?”
>we all just turn and look at her in silence

My dad once told me it was a federal law that no person could own more than 20,000 rounds of ammo at a time.
>>
>>65442728
A lot of nogunz have a weird belief that guns/ammo are like wild west dynamite sticks where it's always a breath away from going off. I once messed with my ex-gf by dropping a few rounds of .380 while emptying a magazine. She screamed pretty loudly and then started asking why they didn't go off in a shaky voice.

I'm also convinced a decent amount of nogunz are secretly suicidal because I've had several people tell me that they don't own guns because they're afraid they might commit suicide if left alone with one.
>>
>>65442728
fuck, I wish I had a toy broomhandle when I was a kid. I had an airshit luger instead
>it didn't have a toggle lock either
>>
>>65442803
You say I haven't been magdumping intermediate caliber ballistic projectiles the entire time?!
>>
>>65442834
That was me as a kid
>camping with family
>dad brought a .22 to shoot
>later on I found an unfired .22 round
>im like 8 or 9 so thought it was cool
>brothers are around campfire
>hey guys watch this
>toss the bullet into the fire
>goes off
>everyone flips
>dad chews me out real good
>realize what “could” have happened and carry the weight of that near miss for 20 years
>only found out recently from an uncle that it couldn’t have killed anyone
I really thought a bullet could have flown out of the fire at gun speeds and killed one of us.
>>
>>65442869
it can still get you in the eye though, especially the case's shrapnel
i have seen .30-06 blow straight through an ammo can that was in a house fire though, good 2mm thick steel with holes all over
>>
>>65442878
True. It definitely has a blast and all, I just always imagined it PTCHOOOOO’ing at full speed.
>>
>>65442803
>I start explaining terminal velocity and how it probably wouldn’t kill anyone
The Mythbusters did it, if it doesn't start tumbling it will 100% kill someone. If your firing solution was accurate, that is.
>>
>>65442834
>I'm also convinced a decent amount of nogunz are secretly suicidal because I've had several people tell me that they don't own guns because they're afraid they might commit suicide if left alone with one.
are you sure they meant killing themselves intentionally, and not by accident?
>>
>>65443187
yeah, I've heard of a few occasions where weddings in the middle east got somebody killed due to celebratory gunfire falling down on them like that
>>
>>65443196
Yup intentionally.
Not like
>yeah haha I'd be worried about dropping it or cleaning it
And more like
>Yeah haha I just go through shit sometimes and who knows what would happen if I had a gun nearby
Similar statements from multiple people really threw me off guard.
>>
>>65443320
Then it becomes "if I can't trust myself with firearms no one else can either"
>>
>>65442834
>A lot of nogunz have a weird belief that ammo are like wild west dynamite sticks where it's always a breath away from going off.
I do.

what a bunch of pansies. total woman energy. 22lr? lol, the thing would fucking bounce off of you.

>I've had several people tell me that they don't own guns because they're afraid they might commit suicide if left alone with one.
I've heard that one more times than I can count, I appreciate their self awareness, but it terrifies me that a seriously decent chunk of the population can't be trusted around guns. Like I share a country with suicidal/homicidal toddlers
>>
>>65443398
Not him but I think a huge chunk of antigun logic is based around those people being severely mentally ill
>>
>>65443320
>>Yeah haha I just go through shit sometimes and who knows what would happen if I had a gun nearby
It's weird because I have depression and a supposed grocery list of other mental health issues, yet I do not understand the logic behind "I've had a few bad days in a row, better paint the wall red." It legit disturbs me and it needs to be studied by someone

>I'm also convinced a decent amount of nogunz are secretly suicidal because I've had several people tell me that they don't own guns because they're afraid they might commit suicide if left alone with one.
My ex did that with a twist.
>ex constantly argues with me about how owning guns is "unhealthy" and "not normal"
>bring out the statistics to show gun ownership is actually quite common
>continues arguing
>eventually admits that if she had a gun and carried, she would probably use it to shoot people who annoyed her during an argument
>mfw I realize I am arguing with her at this very moment
>>
>>65443187
>Fire gun at 30 degrees into the distance
>Bullet hits something a mile away
>Surprised Pikachu.jpg

Anything actually "up" bullets come down at gravity speed as mythbusters showed but people are retarded enough to howitzer handgun rounds into the neighboring county. Black powder pistols are fun on the 4th too, just load paper towel or shot cards over a cylinder of powder for big boom big fireball
>>
>>65442829
Uh oh..
>>
>>65443595
You should have handed her a gun during that argument to call her out.
>>
>>65442728
Someone I used to know said bullets don't break the sound barrier even after I showed them that bullets do indeed break the sound barrier. His reasoning is that jets are the only things in the universe that break the sound barrier, and a tiny piece of metal can't
>>
>>65443960
Whips break the sound barrier, and it's why we get that classic whip crack sound. It's not some magical force that only modern engineering can break.
>>
>>65443690
>she just gets more pissed of and shoots him
Great, you just killed anon
>>
Tangentially related but "carrying a knife for defense is a bad idea because you're more likely to have it taken off you and used against you than stabbing anyone", which made me think that clearly then the best move would be to give a mugger a knife, putting him at a severe disadvantage.
This is something the police will tell you which makes it stink of "pls don't defend urself because I don't want the paperwork"
>>
>>65444022
>Be 5'1" 156lb woman buying a folding knife (under $20 and pink please!) because firearms are mean and she's given a lot of thought how to scare away rapists hiding under her car as they're wont to do but would never ever kill someone

Behind the gun counter I tried to delicately sell the average knife for self defense woman a pink sabre keychain mace and explain the self defense ideology of making space from an assailant so you can escape to safety. Or a gun, because a knife is a gun. It's only effective killing someone.
>Usually worked
or sold them a nice pretty gerber to bury at the bottom of their purse.
Same logic applies (the gun part) to everyone regardless of willingness to play the knockout game for keeps. Pocket knife clip, boots, and paying attention though is a tried and true way to never have to draw a gun outside a gas station convenience store.
>>
>>65442728
It's probably someone who legally can't touch guns and is coping.

That being said alt weapons are interesting.

>t. Noguns
>>
>>65444022
There some merit to that, but not much. If I was in a fight, id be hesitant to pull my knife. Depending on the circumstances, some people may just want to brawl a little. But if you pull a knife it escalates it to a life or death match. Again, it really depends on the situation. Either way, it’s the same as guns, don’t pull it unless you’re really in danger
>>
>>65443587
It's not
>had a bad day, time to kill myself
it's
>my life is total shit and I want to kill myself, but I'm afraid of death
>oh it just got even shittier because my wife left me/I lost my job/my dog died. I'm done
>>
>>65442742
It helps when you add a flame. Not much use past that, but it's better than nothing.
>>
>>65443320
>>65442834
they need help

>>65444022
>then the best move would be to give a mugger a knife, putting him at a severe disadvantage
this logic assumes that you and Mr Violence Is My Profession And Bread-and-butter are on the same skill level
this saying, "you're more likely to have it taken off you and used against you", is actually a kind way of saying "you're a retard who's going to be disarmed and stabbed"

>>65442728
yeah, but making a thread about people saying stupid shit makes you nearly as stupid as them
>BB broomhandle
noice
I'd totally turn that into Han Solo's blaster
>>
>>65442728
I stopped debating a coworker about gun ownership after she said. somewhat didactically and patronisingly,
>a bolt-action hunting rifle (such as a Remington 700) is not a magazine-fed rifle, it is a single-shot rifle
>>
>>65442869
Kek, I once did the same thing at Nugget fest a few years back, good times.
>>
>>65443613
>people are retarded enough to howitzer handgun rounds into the neighboring county
115gr at 400fps is still deadly. Sure it is only going BB gun speeds, but it is a dense projectile.
>>
>>65445293
Listening to wild Karen’s dictating gun policies while being clueless about the terminology they use is like crack to me.
