With the proliferation of FRTs and belt-fed AR convertion kits becoming more popular. I wonder if anyone can try to make the AR belt-fed convertion kit follow the route of the HK-21, where the feed tray is located on the original mag well reciever of the gun that swings downward, this way the upper reciever wouldn't need to be modified and the optics could still retain zero, and It'd be easier and cheaper to make wouldn't It?:

Well, the thing with the AR design is that all the exciting things that produce the work you want to use to power the belt feed happens up in the upper. So it's (relatively) easy to change the upper to be belt fed. Getting that motion down into the magwell area may be tricky, as nothing in a normal upper & bolt expects it and thus have little room to accommodate such. HK on the other hand designed in the belt feed form the start, and so the rest of the gun was made to accommodate it.
Also keep in mind that US gun laws incentivises having one lower and swappable uppers, instead of swapping lowers, which rather limits the economic incentive to try and actually create this belt-feed-lower.

you'd still need to modify the upper to make it work, and if you're already changing both the upper and lower, you might as well make a brand new gun and ship it from the factory with an FRT. I am expecting that to happen at some point in the future.

ammo is too expensive and belt feds have no practical civilian purpose

defending yourself against unlawful action by "law enforcement."

The Mk-47 takes AK mags all because It modifies the AR's receiver, so that same area could be modified to take swinging feedtray like the HK-21. HK literally made that gun so customers from It's G3 rifles could make the machineguns easily

The constitution is a "bill of rights not a bill of needs"
