I've always wondered what kind of mileage these things got; the Vickers-Crossley apparently has a curb weight of 7.5t while being powered by a 50hp four-banger which is fucking wild to think about.

Morris CS9 armoured scout car. Delightfully ugly riveted hull on a RWD only Morris light army truck chassis with a beefed up engine and open-top "turret" fitted with underwhelming weaponry.Meh performance during the Fall of France, but proved surprisingly capable in Lybian desert when fitted with oversized sand tires. Quintesentially British.I really like the pic.

OA vz. 30, Czechoslovakia. Built on a 6x4 light truck backbone chassis with swing-axles and 2-litre air cooled flat four. Compact, thinly armored, impressive axle articulation but underpowered.~50 built, used in direct combat and counter-insurgency service.Cute detail is that the armored engine hood closely followed the shape of civilian Tatra cars and trucks it was based upon.

A guy named Raynal Bolling realized that the planes in the Army Air Service were limited by the range of how far they could fly, and proposed that air squadrons expand their motor transportation capabilities so they could move around quicker in maneuver warfare. Those armored cars were specifically designed to escort the truck convoys around and set up security at the new airfields, so Bolling invented gun trucks and airbase defense. Despite being a well established pilot he really liked motor vehicles and would be killed during WW1 when he drove a car up to the front line and was ambushed by stormtroopers.
