I took a beginner shooting course and found out that all these guns you people sperg about are like 99% the same shit, and it was a huge letdown. I thought this would be a cool hobby where I can have strong opinions on shit but I cannot understand why it's so damm important if it's a glawk or a smith wesson or a 9m or a 38 special, holy shit this is what I wasted all the youtube time on?I'm not even sure if I want a gun anymore but I will probably just buy a used surplus glock or something. Holy shit what was I thinking overanalyzing this. This feels like k-pop or sportsball, two other things I didn't grow up with and expected to have strong opinions on but it turns out it's all samey slop that makes me feel nothing.
>>65451144You're supposed to imagine the guns as anime girls based on their history and external aesthetics anon, that's the /k/ way, no one gives a shit about how they actually shoot
>>65451144Life is not vidya. Anon's revelation.
>>65451163Real and true. Spending about 3k because of this.
>>65451168So true
>>65451169Patriot. I have a MR556 11" upper I want to get a STS lower for
>>65451144More for me.
>>65451144go have strong opinions on something important, like women's rights
>>65451300Should women be allowed to carry non-pink firearms or is that unnatural
>>65451144No it doesn't matter much. It's internet shitflinging. Just look at a place like /ck/ with something innocuous as food. It's built on having facetious strong opinions for the sake of internet argument. Most of the details are either selling-points from marketing teams, or just little things that bug the shooter enough to say they don't like shooting it.
>>65451366You can't actually have a strong opinion on food on /ck/ unless it's about mcdonalds happy meals or bussy's microwave tacos. Try to talk about real food for 20 seconds and you'll catch a ban for "trolling". Maybe I haven't spent enough time on /k/ but it doesn't seem like strong opinions on guns are enough to upset the jannies here.
>>65451144>I thought this would be a cool hobby where I can have strong opinions on shit but I cannot>proceeds to post strong opinions and get upset at people who minmax
>>65451144Yeah no shit 9mm plastic strikerslop is all the same. Buy a 1911 in God’s caliber.
>>65451144I've seen people make handmade muskets, reproductions of guns no longer being manufactured, overpressured ammo that can only be used on special guns built for it, custom precision builds that are less than 0.5 MOA, etc. There is plenty of fun to be had for actual autists. Tourists need not butt in, you poser.>>65451498Look at this guy just casually mogging OP.
>>65451144guns are adult toys unless you live in an area with a significant bear population
>>65451144
>>65451554That's a bit of an elitist statement to make; some people live in areas with no bears but many aggressive boars, some people live where there are gators and water moccassins, and some people live where there are violent urban monkeys.
>>65451600you can't shoot niggers no matter how much you larp
>>65451144Firearms are fascinating little capsules of engineering, history, art, culture and the human experience all wrapped up into a neat package that makes you feel cool while you hold it.>shooting themAh, yeah. I guess. I mean they're guns. They all do the same thing, more or less.
mfw the ting only does the thing because it is a thing :(mfw ppl online talk for no reason and I can't realize that :(
>>65451144You're kinda getting lost in the sauce, most of the time people have different priorities and them sperging about it is just them trying to convince each other that their ranking of said priorities is more realistic than the other. Some people flat out hate Glock brick ergonomics and for them the Smith & Wesson M&P was their first experience enjoying a "Glock but for people who hate Glocks" which sorta gave it a cult following. I can't give you a full engineering evaluation to objectively determine which is better, and most times people aren't arguing about 100% hard factors. Ergos, light mounting options, holsters, aftermarket, etc can make people loyal to a brand and model.A 9mm pistol has greater capacity than a .38spl revolver, but for whatever reason someone can have an affinity for revolvers. You'll say the pistol has more rounds in the mag, the revolver guy will say that statistically you won't need them. You'll say it sometimes is necessary to use all the mag and pistols reload faster, he'll say he just trains to reload revolvers almost as fast so it's not a problem. If that person is so inclined to use revolvers that preference is actually an advantage, because his enjoyment will have him train more than the average pistol owner. Could that dedication be put into pistol shooting? Sure. Is it gonna make the difference between living or getting kilt in da streetz? No.Some people will have weird preferences and unless the weapon is actually fucking awful and detrimental to the user and public at large, it's hardly relevant. However such weird choices shouldn't be promoted to new owners, and arguing for conventional "min-max" options is beneficial to ease people into a hobby and allow them to discover more on their own. I'm sure someone started out with a Glock or M&P but is now obsessed with H&K and carries a USP even though they started carrying after hammer fired pistols fell out of favor.
>>65451618I don't want to just randomly shoot anyone, but I may have to defend myself against one trying to harm me. Here in the US, self-defense is legal, even in awful "Duty to retreat" states like Wisconsin, New Jersey, Maine, etc.
>>65451754>I may have to defend myself against one trying to harm meNobody is going to try and harm you, unless you make getting yourself into dangerous situation into a habit.
>>65451780>Nobody is going to try and harm youThere were 14,000+ murders in the US in 2025 (and that's just murders, not including muggings, assaults, or other forms of violent crime). I guarantee you not everyone of those victims was getting themselves into dangerous situations, you low-IQ manlet.

>>65451847>and that's just murders, not including muggings, assaults, or other forms of violent crime)

>>65451363No they must carry pink guns, however men must carry blue firearms for the sake of gender equality. Non-binaries/genderfluids can carry a slug in their skull, pick a lane asshole. Same for Bi/pan/omnisexuals, stop being indecisive

>>65451144Sorry dude. You're not autistic enough to be here.
I mean if all you limit yourself to is striker fired polymer slop, then yes, you will be disappointed.

>>65451144Get a decent gun that can handle ballistics. I recommend a rifle.
>>65451144>I took a beginner shooting coursecongratulations, you are genuinely doing better than about 90% of the poster here.I used to work in a gun store, and I'd tell new shooters to go with the vibes. I *could* spend hours telling cleetus' little cousin all about grip angle, beaver tail length, trigger pull, etc. but they won't know what the fuck I'm talking about and would quickly get overloaded with information. Conversely if they get a gun they don't like or think looks cool they're never going to train or do anything with it.A good gun is something that goes bang when you pull the trigger with your finger. Literally everything else is marketing and hype from guys who want to take your money.
>I don't have nuanced or in-depth experiences and opinions on guns after 1 (one) trip to the rangeNo shit sherlock, shoot more and fuck off.
>>65451144if you didn't get into firearms already having autistic knowledge about the design and engineering of different types of guns and how they came to be then it isn't for you. retards arguing about 9mm vs 38 spc are the bottom of the barrel and it looks like you aspired to be one which is even worse
>>65451498The reason I know this is wrong is that the autism about the SJW Agents of Shield being totally way better or way worse than the Baretta APX is just as strong and opinionated as striker vs hammer sperging so therefore logically it follows that the differences are just as unimportant and inane

>>65451884Pretty sure the 4 most notable assassinations the past 2 years have all been dems. And you sound a bit unhinged so I think I will just confirm my bias a little more thanks
>>65451144>all these guns you people sperg about are like 99% the same shitOf course they are, that's why we need to sperg out over that last 1%.
>>65451144OP, if you don't enjoy the physical act of hitting targets and working on improving your accuracy and speed, then shooting may not be your thing.Debating about stuff should be secondary to doing the stuff. In the end, your equipment has to be good enough to satisfy YOU, be safe, and be reliable.Kyle Rittenhouse had an inexpensive rifle with an inexpensive optic, but it was good enough to work for him and his situation. The various pursuits related shooting include hunting, handloading, long distance shooting, close quarters shooting, night shooting, black powder, history of firearms, engineering and metallurgy of firearms, ballistic testing, gunsmithing etc.The internet caliber wars and opinion battles about the best gun are really much less fun than doing and learning.

>>65454854I did this with chef knives after like 8 years of being an insufferable loudmouth Knife Guy who spent hours every day reading internet arguments about jnats and stropping compounds and carbide sizes I finally realized that a simple thin 21cm gyuto that cost $125 was all the knife I needed. I gave away most of my knife stuff and I no longer offer people knife opinions even if they askMaybe to some extent I see how that could happen with guns and I give myself a pre-emptive ick just thinking about it
>>65451144Most people just own a car. All cars drive forward and are “99 percent the same shit” as you put it. Then there are people who develop a brand preference ( gee whiz, seems like Kia/Sig Sauer has lots of crashes and recalls! Lets not get one of those! )And then there are car guys who know and love their favorite cars very well, take them apart, put them back together, waste tons of money to race them, etc etc. This is a forum of car (gun) guys who do not simply own a gun for practical purposes but have all kinds of insight and knowledge non car (gun) guys have on the topic. For the average lay person it is enough to buy a single handgun and do some light training and shooting with it, the same way its enough for the average person to just buy a car and drive it. Of course you will save money being able to maintain it yourself, knowing where to get a good deal (gunbroker.com), knowing a reliable brand to shop for etc. there are advantages to expertise but it is by no means necessary for your average person who needs a firearm for practical purposes. I would advise against a used gun, you would be better off buying new and shooting a few hundred round and cleaning it to break it in. A used gun can have all kinds of rinky dink old parts or other hilarious problems a lay person might not notice, and even if you test fire and clean it, that doesn’t mean it won’t have an ancient spring or something that fails when you need it the most.Glocks are pretty easy to take down and clean so thats a decent pick i suppose.Enjoy your new not-hobby.
