So... which fancy missiles and drones will "syria" be getting to launch into Iran?
>>
>>65452752
>former member of al Qaeda thanks being kicked off the list of state sponsors of terror

I don't trust them until they get elections. Any day now right? My expectations for Syria are extremely low.
>>
>>65452752
Is it just me, or is their eagle literally modeled after the US seal
>>

Honestly, I wish the best for Syria. There are some historic areas i want to visit and I hope one day it will be safe enough to make the trip.
>>

If you're a madlad you can just go there right now.

He’s proven to be willing to concede on basically everything, quite literally in terms of territory and even in terms of values. His regime has both Islamists running around and women in skimpy outfits in bars and parties
>>
>>65452811
Yes anon the us is the only counrry that has ever had an eagle in profile as a symbol no other country or flag has ever featured anything of the sort and there CERTAINLY is no such thing as a heraldic eagle.
You fucking mong.
>>
>>65452834
I'm aware of Eagle heraldry, I'm just pointing out that the new one from Syria looks suspiciously similar to the US one.
>>

It's because USA is emulating the Roman eagle herald. The Syrian one likely traces its ancestry to the Roman one as well. They used to be part of the empire.
>>
>>65452846
Probably bevause they're both stock standard heraldic eagles. It's like saying that a pt cruiser looks similar to a volvo v70 becayse they're both cars.
>>
>>65452810
Given they've let women into parliament, I'd be willing to think he'll probably set up elections. He's worked to find a non-violent solution quite a lot, which is pretty impressive for a warlord.

Looks more like the eagle of the German football association logo.

The problem is that these nations simply don’t have the fundamental building blocks of democracy. What you need is some form of enlightened despotism, along the lines of what Lee Kuan Yew practiced, but with actual restraints on the state. Put political opponents under house arrest instead of locking them away and torturing them, threaten to seize their assets rather than allowing their homes to be looted and burned. Not only are those methods more humane, but they’re more effective ways of maintaining control over a state. Of course, Islamists and former ISIS members would still have to be kept at bay, which would require some degree of force.
>>
>>65452870
>What you need is some form of enlightened despotism, along the lines of what Lee Kuan Yew practiced, but with actual restraints on the state.

That's similar to my thoughts as well. The Enlightened monarchs acted as a nice transition period, where they allow for stability while funding education, and infrastructure. The motto was "everything for the people but nothing by the people".

Bashar al-Assad and his father could very well have been those kind of figures, had they given enough of a shit. It's much easier to be an authoritarian despot, and just steal everything for you and your buddies, then cling to power forever and crush any opposition.

So that ship SAILED decades ago.
>>
>>65452752
julani hates the jews (though he's been willing to play nice with them at various points for practical reasons) if that's what you're implying

he's sunni and so are most of those around him, so you really don't need to give him much reason to go after iran, especially since they were backing assad and like half a dozen other groups that al-nusra and later HTS were fighting against.
>>
>>65452890
Applies to much of the world. You don’t have to be a Commie or a Nazi to realize that these countries basically require authoritarian leadership for development. It doesn’t matter whether the government’s ideology is Communist, Fascist, or even an authoritarian monarchy, they all tend to end up being similar in practice and are necessary for long-term development.
Democracies don’t work well in low-trust, low-education societies. You need a central authority to make people follow rules, maintain cleanliness, foster civic sense, etc. Compare Afghanistan to Tajikistan, which basically started out with similar cultures and forms of government and look at how differently they developed.
>>
>>65452907
>julani hates the jews
Which is why he gave up the Golan Heights to the Jews.

>>

I explained why immediately after that. He's clearly
A) not retarded
B) looking to actually rebuild Syria
Only a retard would go to war with Israel right after winning the civil war, why would he when it would alienate Syria from international support, bog them down in yet another forever war, and keep their economy and infrastructure in the shitter for yet another decade. julani was/is a hadji, but the guy is clearly not a retarded ideologue and has goals beyond
>muh jihad
>>
>>65452919
You don't actually care about Germany or Syria and you obviously had no reason whatsoever to say that except disingenuous ones.
>>
>>65452910
>basically require authoritarian leadership for development.

Yes, but that' puts you into a bind. It's not like European monarchs just opte to be nice one day and start funding public works and the arts. They were feeling pressure from the more educated middle class to start developing or face the possibility of revolution or reform. So some monarchs in teh late 18th and 19th century willingly went through with reforms and offered stability.

There's no such pressure in MENA countries, as most people are retarded - in part because of poor education. And many of the ruling class are themselves retarded (partly why Egypt and KSA are so big on fudning those gaudy stupid mega-projects - because they're stupid and a power point slide show impresses them).

So you have to just pray and hope that you luck out with a 1/1000 leader who actually gives a shit, and doesn't just want to gobble up all the resources for themselves.

It's so much easier to be another Putin or Xi or Assad than to be Lee Kuan Yew. So you need a personally that goes AGAINST the forces inside and outside the country, and somehow keeps everything together.

See how these states are stupid and fighting against themselves? It would require the majority of the population to be educated liberals to "get" that these contradictions result in them failing. But despots do not want educated public.

>Compare Afghanistan to Tajikistan,

Confounding factors: Afghanistan is much more rural and overlaps with the Pakistani tribal regions. They also have the Pakistani Taliban constantly coming over to take over government and impose what they want.

Tajikistan was firmly under USSR control for decades, and they expanded infrastructure and modernized. All under Soviet lines of course.

Germany needs to send them back. If you want that to happen then Sharaa stabilizing things in Syria and getting the economy and reconstruction moving is the best way to make that happen. This is also a big reason why Erdogan is backing him up because they took in more refugees than anybody and they need to go back.

>>65452912
Yeah they are being idiots. It's an interesting thing though where the U.S. and Israel are at odds. The U.S. wants to create a buffer state in Syria, like Jordan. Which will keep Israel and Turkey apart so the U.S. can manage both. Israel as best as I can tell is worried about Turkey and also that Sharaa is le scary Al Qaeda man, but really I think they just want a weak Syria because that gives them more freedom to maneuver there while trying to recruit Druze or Kurds to act as fifth columnists (and Turkey really, really, REALLY dislikes the idea of armed Kurds there because they consider the PKK to be their #1 security threat; the U.S. pulling the plug on the YPG was to make nice with Turkey), which of course would get them into a conflict with Turkey anyways because they are acting like fucking morons who make more problems for themselves.

Also a funny plot twist is that the Assad dead-enders / tankie / resistance axis types are united with the funny hat people and pro-Israel lobby in the United States in condemning le scary Al Qaeda man.

Germany and most Western European countries (and, to an extent, even the US) are stuck in a bind. The current form of liberalism they’re operating under can’t allow for any sort of action and most their political apparatus is completely opposed to it. This of course, combined with the migration crisis, housing crisis and increased cost of living is unsustainable and is eventually going to lead to some sort of civil conflict.

You're assuming this is just a granted thing - this requires a high level of education (by historical standards). The default of humanity is a bunch of kings or religious leaders lording over people using them as slaves. Governments didn't decide on mass education until the industrial revolution when they actually needed people to read and shit.

The sad part is that we take this SO MUCH for grnated, that we thought we could jsut swoop into Iraq and Afghanistan, give them the cheat codes to a functioning society, then leave. Turns out it's alien to them and they don't accept it.

The thing most outsiders do not get is that these people are way more team based and dont' care about their countries borders per se. They're Team Shia, or Team Sunni, or Team whatever, and that's it. Facts then fit into these narratives. If you thinnk that Americans are partisan, you've not seen middle easterners.

I have no idea why, since he just absolutely fucked you and made you look like a bitch. Again, you're an Israeli and your last two prime ministers were a guy who personally murdered 73 civilians, a guy facing charges of bribery and fraud (and war crimes), and your former president was a convicted serial rapist. Please be honest, your country doesn't give two shits about morality or fairness, and survives as a parasite on the United States. We would respect you more if you were just honest about that. All of this pretending that it's some reason beyond that you just enjoy murdering your neighbors is really pretty pathetic given the insurmountable track record that you've developed.

>>
>>65453346
You know what, I'm going to try to track down known equipment of theirs, just to do the needful.

First off, it looks like they maintained a bunch of engineering vehicles. How many are still intact, I can't find, but it looks like at least a few.

They also have an indigenous armored car/vehicle, which they were seen utilizing recently. Not very heavy, but I think it still counts.

They captured a number of humvees off the SDF. How many is also unknown, but they do exist.

They had a number of SPGs - 2S1s - even before Assads fall, and since Israeli airstrikes were focused on Assad bases I find it likely they retained some. Same with tanks - wiki says they don't have any, but they rolled one out (which iirc israel bombed) during the druze shit, and supposedly there were some t-72s during the 2026 offensive. Didn't see the footage, but it looks like they still have tanks. How many, dunno.

No information I can give any of you on IFVs. I'd be shocked if they didn't have BMP's lying around but again, how many? Dunno.

For APCs, Turkey donated some M113s, and I'd be shocked once more if they didn't have any BMPs.

Yes.

But even "moderate" AQ members hate him now and have considered him to be a fake Muslim murtard kafir secularist and a traitor for awhile. This predates the fall of Assad because he didn't properly institute "sharia" while entrenched in Idlib. It was basically Saudi Arabia there before MBS started implementing Vision 2030 or Qatar/Kuwait today. They think he maintained fealty to AQ early in the war (pre-2015) to get fighters. He was leader of the Al-Nusra Front and broke with AQ in 2016 when the jihadists were getting hit and everyone was getting foreign money + gear.

My guess is that it's just politics. If you're a Syrian warlord, you need to display a certain image to the West so they won't bomb you, but you also need to show the gangsters that you're willing to thug it out alhamdulillah, because you can get those guys to fight for you.

>>65453210
The revolution kind of happened in three waves too. The first was the Zoya wave that was crushed quickly, then came the Habibullah wave that rose out of vengeance to Assad's brutality and mass displacement, and then a third wave (the biggest) after 2020 that turned against Assad due to sanctions and is like a weird hybrid of the two, like a weird Sunni nationalism that is hypersectarian but relatively secular compared to Habibullah's 2014 jihadism.

There's a reason Japan managed to adapt after the war. They had only been under an effective junta for about 15 years before America kicked their teeth in, and even then they still elected representatives to a legislature (even if it was useless). The Freedom and People's Rights movement could be traced back to 1874, long before even many European countries had serious pro-democracy parties.

Democracy in the middle east constantly fails because they have no history of it and the average person has no interest in it. Why the fuck should they care about elections when, to them, they're just a dog and pony show for the strongest political entity to rig everything and win anyway?

He still has all is AQ friends around him. He can't be seen bending the knee too much without being seen as a the puppet he effectively is. These people have fought to create a caliphate, they aren't eager to lose that so if they're smart they'll play ball but he's not a sort of absolutist ruler that can just flip and legalize gay marriage or something without him having a tragic accident.

And on the flip side any real success he could have would turn him into Assad 2.0 in the eyes of the Israelis. They'll take a failed state in syria over a state that can threaten their interests.

Given that he killed Americans I'm not exactly rooting for him either.

They were a rag-tag militia, and they complained that Americans didn't give them any heavy weapons. The entire situation sucks, since they needed something to defend against the Turks.

They got their cheeks clapped the moment when they had to face an actual trained and disciplined military force. They were also notorious for not budging an inch unless coalition air power was helping them out

Not really. They're another militia, and they don't have much of the heavy equipment that the Israelis destroyed and the government wants. The benefit to the government is they don't have an independent state on their legal territory anymore.

I dont trust Twitter posts. They think Halo tanks and guns are grounded.

I really don’t trust them either, but the reality is that if you immediately snub them, they will go back to Iran’s bloc or straight up durka jihadism with 100% percent certainty.

With states like Syria, the only correct way to conduct diplomacy is to give them the chance to act civilized, but at the same time, don’t make too much assumptions that it will work out. So you get a small chance of good outcome, and if things go to shit, you are also mentally prepared for it.

Same goes for stuff like western trade with Russia earlier. It was genuinely an understandable idea to treat them as genuine trade partner for a while, because otherwise they would 100% surely have went back to some sort of militaristic autocracy even sooner, *but* the critical error was that Europe allowed for itself to become too dependent on Russian energy. Error wasn’t in the core idea of economic cooperation, error was not accounting for the ”let’s hope that the fuckers get better, but we can’t rely on it” factor.

I visited it at the start of this year when they were clashing with kurds and sdf.
Totally safe and had zero trouble despite being a faggy looking white guy. Spent a month there and toured most of the country. Got to touch a bunch of /k/ stuff aswell.

>willing to accept the results of a fair election
Hard to do with a tribal population/culture. Hell, even if they do accept results if a population isn't homogeneous enough the result is legislative gridlock.

You also need a sufficient amount of buy-in to the legitimacy of the state itself. One of the things people had trouble wrapping their heads around with Afghanistan was that to the vast majority of people outside Kabul, the notion of an Afghan state didn't really exist. It wasn't something that existed in their daily lives and they couldn't see why they should care when it was introduced to them as an abstract concept. It's a big part of why the ANA folded so fast, when the Coalition air cover isn't there anymore and you're actually being asked to die for your country, suddenly it matters a lot more if 'your country' is a concept you have any substantial investment in.
It's something hard to wrap your head around from a western perspective, since as much as we bitch, we have states pretty much unrivalled in human history for strength and legitimacy of rule.
The collapse of the Soviet Union and company is an interesting case here too, particularly East Germany. People clearly believed that one, there was such thing as Germany and two, the GDR had no claim to being that Germany. As soon as coercive force maintaining that state eased up, it disintegrated.

The ANA collapsed because they literally didn't have any supplies left to fight with
