>forend way to fucking far forwards>870s and benelli novas both have much longer forends which extend back to the receiver and are cut so they can overlap the receiver when pumped back>semi autos and doubles have forends that touch the receiver>no shim kid, no way to adjust the cast, pitch or drop>stock doesn't adjust for LoP (have fun shooting this gun at the range during summer and then with a heavy coat while hunting>no way to adjust comb
I guess get a youth model?
>>65455717>O. F. Mossberg & Sons>Manlets need not apply
>>65455923Mossberg do make their 500 Super Bantam, for kids, small ladies, and manlets.
The Bantams are only in .410 Bore and 20-Gauge, but you could hunt most things with good loads of 20-Gauge.If you badly need it to be 12-Gauge, then either look around for replacement furniture, or have a smith craft it for you.
>>65455717You sound cute, tiny little twink making feet stampies because of your short thin arms>b-baka mossberg-sama! You're too long! T-there's no way it'll fit!
>>65455717I dont understand people who complain about stocksPeople have been shooting birds out of the sky for like 400 years now and only in the last 20 has "adjustable lop, comb, etc." been necessary
>>65456155there isn't a replacement forend that goes that far back>>65455905>>65455923>>65456143>>65456156you're no gunz yuro thirdies
>>65456506people used to have custom stocks
>>65455717I don't get the mossberg/870 crowd. Model 97s, 12s, and Ithacas secondhand are still cheap.
>>65455717That Nova forend can pinch you and it fucking sucks when it happens. It's also a bitch to put any accessories on it and you can't easily switch for aftermarket because of the mag lockout thing built into it.The regular Nova is also way worse for adjustability, the stock and receiver are one piece so it better fit you because you can't do shit if it doesn't. Fortunately mine is fine for me but the same isn't true for a lot of people.
>>65456848500s and 88s especially are really, really cheap and 870s were cheaper than 97s, 12s and ithacas. it's like the remington 700 vs the winchester model 70. the remington sold better because it was like 10% cheaper. I will say, as someone who owns a retrograde, it's pretty dumb to spend any more on a mossberg than you have to because the company has literally always been the poorfag budget company and most people just don't understand that because we only got into guns after winchester went to shit.like mossberg isn't popular because it's mossberg and the 500 isn't popular because it's the 500. the 500 is a thing because it was the cheapest domestically made repeating shotgun for decades>>65456856>It's also a bitch to put any accessories on it and you can't easily switch for aftermarket because of the mag lockout thing built into it.people say that, but like honestly there isn't that much in the way of aftermarket for mossbergs. Like not to the extent AR-15s have after market parts. there's the fagpul forend and stock, a trigger upgrade and then like a handful of other shitty plastic stocks or shitty wooden stocks that are all about the same footprint. I think I have more after market shit on my henry .22 than on my mossberg since the only parts that aren't stock are the trigger springs and I have that boyd stock that has it's own problem with rotating and the grip is pretty ass, too square and chunky. oh and I bought a 28 inch barrel from mossberg, but I should have just bought a version with a 28 inch barrel from the start because 18 inch barrel shotguns are memes.
>>65455717embrace the wobble
>>65457000>no rib
>>65456886Yeah, but at least the options exist. The magpul forend alone lets you put a light on the pump and that's all you really need. There's no way to do that on the Nova unless you hack up the stock forend and make a mount yourself. They fixed that on the new one at least, it's got an mlok slot or two, but I don't know if it's compatible with older Novas. (And knowing Benelli it'd cost like 1/3 the whole gun to buy as well.)
>>65457025a tacticool shotgun in current year when ARs and PCCs exist is retarded
>>65456693>there isn't a replacement forend that goes that far backOr, like I said, make one that fits you, little king manlet.
>>65457202you're a fucking retard. go watch a vid of anyone using a mossberg 500, no matter how tall the guy is, he's holding the back of the forend. it's the same reason actual troops hold near the magwell
>>65457217>it's the same reason actual troops hold near the magwellHoly fuck, this manlet.
>>65456506Are you ACTUALLY retarded? It was hardly unusual 100-200, even 300 years ago for stocks to be fitted to the owner. Stocks can be cut down, they can be extended, they can be replaced.A manlet or small lady in 1796 didn't want a shotgun with a long-ass fucking length of pull either, so if needed, they would buy shotguns with shorter ones, or have longer ones shortened to fit them. That kind of thing was one of the really common jobs for gunsmiths for a long time. A lot of people also just wanted a slight adjustment, just a bit shorter, just a bit longer, they could still use the gun otherwise but they felt it would be more comfortable with an adjustment.>>65456848The Mossberg Maverick 88 is a really good value shotgun for its low price, it's the king of poorfag shotguns. It's also not like, a nice old gun, so you won't feel bad about it getting a bit roughed up. At least, I'd feel bad about roughing up an old 1897 (less so for an Ithaca, they still make those).
>>65457217It's not that nobody would ever hold by the magwell on a rifle or by the rearmost part of the pump slide, but rather your insistence that this is THE only way any trained soldier would ever hold either gun. This very obviously depends on the gun in question, then the army in question, additionally, the situation and position (there's all kinds of reasons you may want to shift your grip in any given situation). Vertical foregrips and grippods are also a fairly popular accessory to use with carbines and rifles in the U.S Army and Marine Core, are those guys just not the real deal?
>>65457092For civilian life purposes you can straight up just roll a dice to see which of those three you get and you're literally going to be fine with any of them.
>>65457222>t. no shoots>>65457275it's more that having your arm all the way out is fatiguing, you have much more power closer to your body
>>65457374>fatiguinghit the gym lanklet or get checked out by a doc
>>65457380again, fucking no shoots. you don't see guys shooting high power with their arms all the way at the end of the handguard while shooting offhand
>>65457374>it's more that having your arm all the way out is fatiguingThat depends on how much weight you are supporting (ergo which gun, and maybe what accessories it may have on it currently), and in what way and for how long. Further forward grips give you more leverage to control the muzzle for both aiming and recoil control, more rearward grips (like at the magwell) are less stable and supportive in that way, but it's also easier and less fatiguing to keep your gun pointed somewhere for longer periods of time if you have to for whatever reason. Also, how long your arms are will factor into where to grip on average, what feels most natural for your build.
>>654574004 bore
>>65457419>>65457428oh my mossberg I hold the end of the forend. On my high power rifle I'm like on the delta ring. on my carbine the bone in my hand is touching the magwell, maybe I'll push it a little further out. on my henry .22 it feels best to have like 2 fingers on the end of the forend and the heel of my hand on the receiver the only ones I ever hold different is sometimes I'll hold the carbine or .22 at the very front of the handguard/forend because I can pull back on it
>>65455717I think you made this thread before and I previously thought you were retarded. Now I see the truth and have sold my mossberg 500. I am going to replace it with a benelli m2 that has a forend that touches the receiver. God bless.
>>65455717Just ask your dad to get you an H&R 20ga like every other eight year old ever. Also you have to be an adult to post here.
>>65457244>(less so for an Ithaca, they still make those).yeah but it's not a real Ithaca
>>65458519I wouldn't abuse an old Ithaca in nice condition, but I feel I could be less careful with one that's seen its share of honest wear.New Ithacas have the trigger disconnect, which is a bit less cool and that's probably for lawyer reasons, but I always felt that slamfire was a novelty anyway.
>>65456856>It's also a bitch to put any accessories on it and you can't easily switch for aftermarket because of the mag lockout thing built into it.Tell me you don’t own a Nova without owning a Nova, it doesn’t need accessories, comes with all chokes from factory, and that mag plug comes out, my Nova has a 13+1 capacity.
>>65456506The vast majority of guns were bespoke back in the day, and even once machine made guns became normal, the amount of customization available from the factory made a lot of guns be custom guns anyway.
>>65457000No. That's half the reason I'm an 870 man.
>>65458715Mine is a tactical, so no chokes. I mostly just want to put a light on it but it's also difficult to put optics or a sidesaddle on if you don't have a Supernova. All that said I bought it as an HD gun when I lived in a shit state, and now that I've moved and have an AR for HD it's less of a concern, I've thought about converting the Nova into a hunting gun but replacement barrels cost almost as much as a whole new gun so it doesn't really seem worth it.
>>65457940I don't think there's anything wrong with a field M2 other than it being foreign>>65457980I have a mossberg 500 retrograde in 12 gauge, retardo>>65458618>New Ithacas have the trigger disconnectthe trigger disconnect is a meme. the 2 (4) benefits an ithaca has or that JMB intended when he designed is is that they are super light compared to a 97 or 12 (but a mossberg 500 is too due to the aluminum receiver) and they only have one hole to prevent shit from getting into the receiver (and they're ambi but who cares about lefty cucks) (and the slug guns are tighter and more accurate but no one uses slug guns and you could get the same or better performance out of say a savage harvester)
>>65458715>my Nova has a 13+1 capacity.you can fit 14 shells in a fucking nova? My Mossberg 500 is 5+1>>65458747>>65456506>>65457244this. Read things like Teddy Roosevelt's old letters. All of his factory guns had custom stocks (and custom other parts) and he was autistic enough about it that he wrote a letter to winchester seething at them telling them to stop shitting up his rifle and then sent them one of his other rifles so they could copy the stock. Plus there were a lot of guys who were just "stock makers" as opposed to full on gun makers and a lot of men would have known how to shape or modify wood. >>65459267>Mine is a tacticalthere's you're problem there, boi. you got yourself a mall ninja gun that's only acceptable if you live in one of those foreign third world countries where you can't buy a semi auto rifle hell, I'd arguably rather have a lever action in .357, .44 mag or .30-30 (or .35 rem, etc) than a tacticool shotgun
>>65459267>All that said I bought it as an HD gun when I lived in a shit state, and now that I've moved and have an AR for HD it's less of a concern,I did the same thing, but I did it with a 500 so getting a new barrel was less of an issue and putting an optic and a light was less of an issue other than the height over the stock and it being front heavy>Nova into a hunting gun but replacement barrels cost almost as much as a whole new gun so it doesn't really seem worth it.kind of same as the mossberg. like $200. Shiina from Phase Connect just bought a second, used, benelli nova and then to be a lazy piece of shit she would basically just switch the barrel from one receiver to the other to avoid cleaning the gun
>>65459536>only acceptable if you live in one of those foreign third world countries where you can't buy a semi auto rifleCalifornia, so basically. I'd rather have had a levergun too but anything worth owning in a pistol caliber is $1k+ while the Nova was like $359 at the time. >>65459543Buying another used one honestly doesn't seem like an awful idea, but at that point I could just get a Mossberg or something.
>>65459525>the trigger disconnect is a meme. I agree, I don't think slamfire is particularly necessary.>they are super light compared to a 97 or 12True.>and they only have one hole to prevent shit from getting into the receiver Pros and cons to that, but I like how the receiver is slick on the sides. It looks nice.>(and they're ambi but who cares about lefty cucks) Still 10% of us, but the average left-hander seems to mostly just learn to deal with it. If a gun isn't a non-reversible bullpup or doesn't eject straight back into your face, they seem to cope fairly well.Pistols have reversible magazine releases, also there's solutions for the slide release, and that's pretty much the most important ambi considerations in the world of guns IMO, so being wrong-handed for guns is pretty much a solved problem for them.>(and the slug guns are tighter and more accurate but no one uses slug guns and you could get the same or better performance out of say a savage harvester)I like slug guns for piggies. Also, you're forgetting about shotgun states.
>>65459536>Plus there were a lot of guys who were just "stock makers" as opposed to full on gun makers and a lot of men would have known how to shape or modify wood. That'd be a pretty easy side-gig to get in on if you're already a trained wood worker, so that makes sense. Shame we seem to have less of that now.
>>65459589>Also, you're forgetting about shotgun states.it's basically just NJ and part of Minnesota or something this point. nearly every shotgun only state legalized straight wall cartridges. now some people prefer shotguns for hogs or because they hunt in dense woods and can use buckshot or slugs, but when the ithaca deer slayer was invented it was something like 1 in 3 hunters were in shotgun only states, but now it's just NJ, Mass and a couple of individual midwest counties
>>65459619I know, but I have an emotional need for spin stabilizing big and fat lead slugs for precise long range pounding.
>>65457092All guns are purpose oriented and many if not most of them are use specific. Once you get outside of their operation window you can actually put yourself into a bad situation with one. Some people need a shotgun to fit their personal situation. Others may find an AR, PCC or pistol suits them best. Assuming that what is best for everyone else should be the same as what's best for you is in fact, retarded.
>>65459688the only reason to buy a tacticool shotgun is if you live somewhere where local laws prevent you from getting something better or you're literally in poverty. ARs are way easier to shoot than a 12 gauge, especially with that concussion, no gunz retard
