This is going to be like pre vs post dreadnought ships.
The range of your missiles doesnt matter when they all get shootdown by a laser snd all your stealth airplane turned to shred by a railshoot
>>
>>65455737
Nah, not even the Chinese retarded enough to build this shit.
>>
Impressive, yo.
>>
>>65455737
Neither lasers nor railguns US has posses good enough range and power for that now.
In perspective lasers and HPM seems to be very promising but Defiant don't have space reserved for real "high caliber" lasers and HPM systems
>>
if (and that's a massive if) this thing sees action it will have a very similar fate as the Bismark and have its service violently cut short.
That's mostly because I don't think that it will see service and if it does it will be used for patrolling and posturing in low risk areas – not in actuall combat, unless for overconfidence/desperation/incompetence

Well at least the OP understands the reason the Trump BBGN are so large is for the power generation, storage, conditioning etc. needed to operate multiple energy intensive systems simultaneously.

One of the reasons you don't see Flight III Burkes with lasers or the muffin top EW system is because the 37 RMA SPY-6 taps out its power.
>>
>>65455737
>laser
More like lolsers. Beam weapons suck in atmosphere and you need to unlock Fusion Power in the tech tree first. Also, what's the point of having 80% of your weapons loadout being defensive weapons? Past a certain size, big warships become less cost efficient vs risk of sinking, i.e. the eggs in one basket conundrum. If you need to spend all this money, weight and space just to keep the ship alive against conventional jets, nevermind cheap drones, you need a rethink.

>shoot laser into missles camera

Better than using bullets for AA

If you shove a nuclear reactor in there, the ship shouldn't have to be so comically huge to power all that stuff.
I could see something Longbeach sized (with modern reactor tech) managing just fine.
The Trump Class is larger than the fucking Kirov yet has like half the fucking missiles.
>>
>>65455737
This is never ever ever getting built lmao
>>
>>65457460
We don’t know how many missiles it has though…
It’s a kinda shitty early concept but they’ve at least moved towards ~200 cells
>>
>>65455737
I thought they canceled the HVP railgun project in 2021? Unless maybe Japan is sharing their successful research with smaller railguns with us on a new joint project?
>>
>>65455737
Why would anyone think this is going to happen, just like the steam catapult retardation, as soon as hes out its all going out the window. The only reason they are kissing ass so hard right now is because it ensures a large amount of funds, at least in the short term.
>>
>>65455813
>Doesn't have space reserved
>30,000t+
>less than 200 missiles
Retard.
>>
>>65457616
They canceled the railgun development a couple of years ago, because the goal of the project was to produce a 64 MJ railgun for shore bombardment. They built a 32 MJ demonstrator and determined that it could feasibly be refined into a useful weapon, but a 64 MJ version would need to wait for significant developments in materials science before it could be viable. Development of the HVP was just reaching early testing as railgun funding was winding down, but the Army was interested in using it for missile defense fired from 155mm artillery. Now we have the railgun reemerging as a commercial product after General Atomics spent the last few years developing it with their own money, HVP development in full swing with the Army, a new ship class with the space and power to mount a railgun, and a need for air defenses that are cheaper per shot than missiles and reloadable at sea.

The Japanese railgun is far smaller, with 1 MJ of muzzle energy and an unguided projectile. They're on a similar level as what the US was working on 30 years ago.

Anon I...
>>
>>65457616
Spoiler, General Atomics never stopped working on it.

Also just to point it out the railgun is an air defense weapon not a traditional surface to surface battleship cannon.
>>
>>65457705
Yeah that's hilarious, but see where it has lasers jammed in.
>>
>>65457782
How much space do you think a "real" laser requires?
>>
>>65457770
>to point it out the railgun is an air defense weapon
Air defense weapon that sucks. People buy into marketing name "muh railgun!", (railgun means wundervaffen). But if you lookt into substance it's just a fun with double muzzle velocity and therefore approximately double effective range comparing to existing guns if the same caliber. Are guns some surface to air wundervaffen? There is reason SAM missile exits.
>>
>>65457789
Laser volume effeciency is about 20kW per m3, plus you need chiller for cooling with (chillers have about 60kW per m3 cooling capacity, at 20% laser efficiency it's 12 kW of laser output per m3). Real lasers start with 1000kW
>>
>>65457811
Okay, so they'll take up 3-4x the space of the 300 kW systems shown in the depictions. Looks like there's plenty of room for that.
>>
>>65457792
The HVP is intended to be an effective air defense against missiles when fired from a standard 155mm howitzer, yes. Also it's spelled wunderwaffe.
>>
>>65457792
>There is reason SAM missile exits.
Yeah, that reason is to outspend your adversary 100:1 on every engagement. That's great for RTX and LMT shareholders but not for the USN.
>>
>>65455737
>Enemy shoots twice as many drones and missiles because your ship is now twice as large
>Lasers work nice IF there are no foggy conditions and also not really against ballistic missiles
>Railshot against missiles
Meme.
Just stay with regular ships with regular AD guns, AA missiles and lasers
>>
>>65457439
>shoot laser into missile camera
>It goes blind and switches to pure IMU guidance for the last part of the journey
>>
>>65457792
>Are guns some surface to air wundervaffen?
Yes, because they offer the neccessary throw weight to deal with mass drone attacks, while the major limiting factors holding them back in that role just so happen to be muzzle velocity and range
>>
>>65457835
>The HVP is intended to be an marketing hyped as air defense against missiles
Sorry boys, but sending shell at 1600 m/s doesn't make it thousands time more effective than 5" shell fired at 800 m/s.
You need to send it at 80000 m/s.
Chop chop, you have job to do, to make your marketing bullshit real.

Doubt.

Shareholder value is the most important American value. Even the law says so after Dodge Brothers vs Ford.

DEI disagrees with you.

Downplaying the projectile as a mere "shell".

5" aren't mere shell either
