When it comes time to use it Uncle Schlomo will be going about his day when he gets (hopefully) a couple of minutes warning to retrieve his rifle, which is probably not in the same place he is. He will probably stuff a spare mag or two into his pockets and be up against multiple attackers with rifles, chest rigs and multiple spare mags. The way to go about this is to have reservists cc'ing handguns at all time so they aren't caught unarmed, and to have good communication systems so alerts can travel quickly, each settlement should have some thermal cameras pointed at approach directions that can be accessed via cellphone app by reservists. Each settlement should have a drone that can be scrambled quickly if needed, and a strong point where long guns and gear is stored that reservists can retreat to and arm up.
