Has russia main strategy Always been going after peasants?
>>65458029Those are cossacks which are essentially irregulars from the frontier that were eventually formalized and played an import part in Russian internal policing. Basically the Russian empire had difficulty dealing with them so they co-opted them instead, gave out privilidges, land, etc in exchange for their loyalty. They essentially become the paramilitary/police force of the Tsar.
>>65458029It appears that they're prioritizing the gooses and pigs actually
>>65458062In other words, the tsarist era equivalent of Kadyrovites?
>>65458146Don't Cossacks come from roughly the same Caucasian region as the Chechens?
>>65458062Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth explicitly rejected doing that before due to the barbarism of such a solution. Cossacks split from PLC and joined Russia instead, PLC was partitioned 150 years later.
>>65458154>Don't Cossacks come from roughly the same Caucasian region as the Chechens? They come from south-central/eastern Ukraine mostly but at that time, Ukraine extended right through what is now the Sochi area essentially to Chechnya itself.
>>65458176>Ukraine extended right through what is now the Sochi area essentially to Chechnya itself.Ah yes. Around the same time after the Great Hyperborean War when Ancient Ukrs had dug out what is now called the Black Sea
>>65458062>gain power using some crazy motherfuckers to do your violence for you>once you have power you realize you need to pay those crazy motherfuckers to not do violence to youmany such cases
>>65458062Cossacks were fine when they were small bands of freemen but became a menace as soon as they got strong enough to develop their own political ambitions. They once even came up with a proposal of a constitution of a would-be Cossack state - the gist was that the Cossacks would replace the old feudal landowners but the whole parasitic system of peasant's exploitation would stay essentially the same kek.
>>65458230You now remember how much political power police unions and commissioners wield in western societies.
>>65458154Don river valley. As in Donetsk, the region where the war is.
>>65458223No need to be snide, Pidorashka.
>>65458062The chechens of their day
>>65461325So krasnodar krai and Rostov-on-Don are russified ukranian? I remember when ukranians were in kursk, the local elderly would speak with them in ukranian with an accent
