All the talk about the Navy in this war got me thinking.This may be a dumb post but does the Navy emphasize gun usage at all? Do they all have their assigned weapons held in an armory onboard their ship? Practice on an on-board ship at all? practice at a range at port stops or when docked or something? or because of the nature of their jobs they don't have small arms because the idea that they wouldn't need to fight like that on a ship?

During a visit to a warship at port, I was told by a sailor that all navies (I'm talking a Portuguese or Italian ship, I don't remember) started placing personal arm racks distributed in key places along the ships after the bombing of the USS Cole.So, they do have this into account, but it's obviously something they do not emphasize and even sort neglected at some point.
>>65458137There's regular underway range quals, especially for GMs and MAs. They either put some targets right on the fantail or on a floating buoy nearby, then go to town. Weapons are indeed stored in the ship's armory, and issued according to whatever watchbill or billet is assigned them.When you're ashore there's regular old ranges for quals and so forth.

>>65458137Yes people qual on small arms normally. Certain Sailors on certain watchbills (sentry, SCAT, VBSS, etc) practice more regularly and with different weapons. As for the main battery, that's the whole killer tomato drill. 25mm bushmaster is the only gun (at least on my ship) that isn't really trained on or utilized for really anything. There are 9mm, M4s, M14s, M240s, M203s, 12 ga, M2s, all sorts of guns on board that various people are trained to use.

Sounds like something out of a Steven Seagal movie. I doubt anyone would be crazy enough to try if it were even possible to get that close
>>65458509We had ST 3 do an infiltration and boarding operation drill on my DDG once. I was OOD on the bridgewing and looked inside, it was maybe 3 in the morning so I had my NODs on. There was a frogman behind the Con, quartermaster, helmsman, and JOOD. Hahahaha "he's right behind me isn't he". I don't know how they managed that, maybe came up through the flag bridge ladder well. Seems like we would have heard them undogging the hatch, although its not a CPS airlock on that side so maybe not. It is something they occasionally train for though.
