Why bullets from aluminum are so rare? They can go fast and are relatively hard, so they have some pros.

The Liberty 50gr 9x19 is readily available for sale and doesn't risk getting the ATF on your ass. Proper 9mm AP will have more authority however. Tungsten core DM91 will perforate some Level III PE plates even out of a long barrel (see Buffman).

relative to what?

Lead is cheaper. Steel is even cheaper than lead.
>>
>>65461989
because that's fucking stupid. a better question is why the hell aluminum cases arent the standard for carry ammo? that shit is light af compared to steel or brass
>>
>>65463342
Might be because thermal conductivity. Aluminum transfers heat pretty well compared to brass and steel
>>
>>65463348
I could see that being a concern in a machine gun, but not when you're mag dumping into a chicken washer trying to mug you

Ductility and reactivity of aluminum are poor compared to brass.
>>
>>65463342
Aluminum has burn through problems, if it's oxide protection layer is destroyed it starts very active reaction with gunpowder burn products that reaction melts through cases.
It's possible to mitigate with plastic protection layers (us mil uses 30mm aluminum case rounds) but tech is not as simple as "just make aluminum cases".

Relative to the other stuff bullets are normally made of
