It's good that my wife and me wasn't harmed by him (he was a convicted felon and they found a hammer, a knife and a .22 derringer on him) but it still genuinely sucks that suppressors are illegal in my state and because of that I have to live with a lifelong disability just for protecting us. Lord knows, I'd use a suppressed subsonic .45 if I didn't get assraped by the legal system because of it.
>>
>>65463573
eh don't worry so much, if you're new to it that is. it's been 5 years for me since the EEEEEEEEEE started and I basically never notice it now
>>
Thats why I'm getting a suppressor soon.
I want my HD gun to NOT fuck my hearing if I need to stop some gangbanger from tearing me a structurally superfluous new beehind.
Plus, I'm a big music nerd and I'd rather my tinnitus NOT get worse.
>>
>>65463786
suppressors are quieter but they are not outside of ear damaging decibel range
>>
>>65463791
Not even with 147 gr hollowpoints?
Actually, what is the average decibel decrease for 9mm suppressors anyway?
My girlfriend keeps a Beretta 80x and that has a threaded barrel. Would that have a quieter report?

Hot. I wish my girl friend was into guns. But she supports my hobby fully, so I can't really ask for more.

Yeah, she used to hate guns but sometime in 2020 she and her friend got robbed at knifepoint. When I met her, she kept and carried a Taurus G3c (pic related).

I don't know if this is gonna help anyone but there's a tiny chance you might have tinnitus because of jaw/neck issues rather than loud noises. I was always super tense whenever doing literally anything and had a habit of clenching my jaw so I didn't understand why I had tinnitus even if I was super careful about my hearing all my life. Turns out all the clenching and tense muscles worked weird on my auditory system and after some trial and error I managed to find the most effective spots to massage which made the tinnitus go away after a while (picrel) so you have to do it routinely. The best spot was definitely the cavity between the ear and rear jaw in the middle but its different for everyone.

I have very sensitive hearing and I love music so tinnitus made me go fucking hysterical after a while. I hope this can help anyone at all. Then again if you're certain its caused by guns then its probably irreversible but with enough time I pray you can get used to it.

Oh hell no, the case was pretty clear cut.
He got entry into our home by breaking the kitchen window. My wife woke me up by the time he was creeping through our hallway, which connected all rooms. Told me she heard windows breaking, rummaging and steps. I grabbed my .357 besides the bed and made way for the hallway. Upon opening the door he was about 3 feet away, I identified him pretty quickly as someone I wasn't familiar with (he was black lmao), so I blasted him with one shot to the chest diagonally. My wife was pretty hysteric, so after calming her down, I dialed 911 and explained the situation. The present cops and paramedics were pretty sympathetic towards us and did their thing.
Back then I didn't know if I would be prosecuted for it, so I schizo'd out and pre-emptively hired a lawyer to stay in contact with law enforcement and the DA (who took $261 per hour, the fat fuck).
He also requested an access to records, that's how I found out he had the knife and .22 derringer on him and that he was a convicted felon with previous charges for drug and robbery charges.
That's when he told me to calm down a bit, since he thought there's no way the DA would touch this case and lo and behold about 2 months later I got a letter saying I'm good.
Still got tinnitus from it, like I said. One (1) shot in a small hallway is all it took. My wife is also pretty autistic about sounds now, like covering her ears when an ambulance drives by or when we watch a movie in the cinema, especially one of those loud as fuck IMAX screenings.
Take care of your hearing bros and for the love of god don't live in a cucked state where suppressors are outright illegal. If I was a rentoid, I'd move away, but my family, house and work kinda bind me to this place.

Ear pro is good, but if you're shooting subsonic pistol ammo with a good sized suppressor you're exposing yourself to a fraction of a second of about 120 decibels, which is similar to being next to a car in a garage when it honks, you will experience hearing damage but at a level that is not noticeable unless you repeated it often. A rifle indoors with a suppressor though is not going to save your eardrums.

Daily reminder; DO NOT TALK TO THE POLICE IN THE EVENT OF A SELF DEFENSE SITUATION
>POLICE DO NOT HAVE AN OBLIGATION TO SERVE AND PROTET YOU

DeShaney v. Winnebago County
>DAs AND ADAs CAN AND WILL FUCK YOUR SHIT UP IF THEY FEEL LIKE IT WILL GIVE THEM ANOTHER NOTCH UNDER THIER BELT
>CCW INSURANCE WILL NOT COVER YOU IF YOU ARE CHARGED

Fuck cops, fuck glowniggers, and fuck any and all oppressive arms of the state.
>>
>>65464113
Try not to feel like you did anything unreasonable or wasteful by getting a lawyer when you did, anon. Much faster, cheaper, and more likely to succeed having that guy from the start than if you lawyered up later in the event that someone in the system tried to fuck you on a whim despite the favorable circumstances. Especially in a state with cucked gun laws like no suppressors.
>>
What's the best hearing-safe setup for home defense purposes? Reliability is important, presumably suppressor is mandatory but adds length too. PCC in .45 or 9mm? Duty size pistol in similar? Shorty AR in 300 blk? Skip the suppressor and keep muffs nearby or just embrace the EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE?
>>
>>65464113
One thing that can be done is keeping a pair of electronic earmuffs by your emergency gun(s). It only takes a second or two to slap them on and turn the knob.

.45 ACP in 2006.
In my car.
Had some tinnitus before then, but that incident just amped it up a bunch.

Just press the muzzle into contact with the perp and his abdominal cavity becomes a suppressor

I see what you're all poking about on but not at. The weight in society has to largely carry itself but as with any culture or including drama or theater of conflict the manner of avoiding the stress fractures was a communications challenge.
That doesn't mean the actual problem was of the nature or sophistication of the group but rather that usually something in the optics and framing was not aligned. And that alignment is a distribution challenge also and so the needs of the many are the tools of a few in most instances. How to step the problem is mostly taking it down. Largely in volume.
Trying to think of the historical advise examples since idk why here that's the topic but probably you'd think it's like building the sheltered into settlers because they otherwise forget how to operate their own homes. And any then apparently civ is the best metaphor again. About that affecting geopolitics it's in granting actual confidence as to what skills when a difference someone knows how to add numbers to.
So the issue of the science is not that it is a complex affair really at all or intractable to people of meager anything. You just couldn't cut the cloth of the unobvious without bleeding the farm animals if something unsettling is spooking them as always is the rather nature more than anything of life for fucks sakes.

I've shot guns without hearing protection a bunch of times and one time I heard a little

in my ear when it was quiet and I decided to not fly too close to the sun, so I put in ear plugs now when I'm shooting recreationally.

I've regretted not interring some people to training at least explicitly. It weighs on my mind they weren't told expressly there was not something healthier.

Tfw I had tinnitus for a few months then it just went away, got 5 steroid injections into my ear drum and that helped, still have kinda fucked hearing and there’s a bit of like white hiss noise but no ringing so I’m happy, probably from listening to loud music and shooting shotguns with no ear pro and using angle grinders and hammering shit all day

Play white noise in bone-conducting headphones. There are several medical products being developed which are just this, but you can make it for yourself at very cheap thanks to modern consumer electronics.
>>

>bone-conducting headphones
youre just making shit up at this point

>>65464606
>longer barrel quieter
>better suppressor quieter
>subsonic bullet quieter
>more muzzle energy better performance

The best combination of these is a .300 Blackout subsonic round coming out of a decently long barrel and a big can. The easiest way to get more barrel length without making the weapon longer is a bullpup, which is why my future home defense gun when I move to a state that doesn't ban suppressors would be a Desert Tech WLVRN Micron in .300 Blackout. A good budget option would be .45 ACP in an affordable gun of your choice, full size pistol or larger. Less muzzle energy than .300 Blackout but cheaper per round and quite common because "Two World Wars" and all the PDWs using .45 before 300 Blackout started taking over.

If you hate money you could make an 8.6 Blackout build. The round is overkill, but it's essentially 300 Blackout's bigger brother. It's the most power you can get out of a subsonic weapon without getting a really niche gun, as 8.6 Blackout can be shot from any .308 Winchester rifle if you can replace the barrel.
>>
Just get a suppressed .22
No joke
>but muh stopping power!
It still has the highest kill rate of every cartridge.
Just spray your .22 in bursts or even magdump, it'll drop even the fiercest crack fiend
A suppressed .22 is also 100% hearing safe
