Ok, I am going to nerd out for a moment here. It's saturday night and I am drunk, fuck you.It's still weapons related!Right! You know Raphael, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle? Red headband, uses twin Sai's?Yeah, about that.Sai is a weapon very similar to that of Jitte, which was basicly a policeman's weapon. It is essentially an iron bar that you beat unruly peasants with, with a little prong on the side (Sai has two of these) which can be used to trap the opponents weapon and wrestle it off their hands. This is kinda the whole point of both the jitte/sai as well as police-style jujutsu (which was later refined by Jigoro Kano into modern Judo): You want to capture the perp ALIVE, preferrably in such a condition that he can be _questioned_ and maybe put to trial. You don't want to kill him. The tip of the jitte (and a lot of versions of Sai) is not a stabbing element, it's blunt. It's there to poke, like the end of a police baton. So this brings me to Raphael: He's often seen as the hot-head of the mutant turtles. Quick to anger, sometimes butting heads with more level-headed ones, maybe running away on his own because he thinks the other ones are going too softly on their enemies. And yet, he specialized in Sai, the weapon specifically designed to disarm and subdue the opponent, not kill him. That seems like an odd contradiction ...until you start thinking about it. Raphael is kinda like a tough-on-crime police. He absolutely despises the scum he fights, he has zero problems beating the shit out of them... but there is a line. He's like Batman. It's not about killing, it's about making them pay. Raphael is kinda like a policeman of ancient japan: "Oh, we ARE going to behead/crucify them, but there is a process to it! We take them alive, preferrably unhurt, and make them squeal out everything they know. And THEN we will make examples out of them."Raphael isn't going to kill you. He's just going to make you wish he had. He's going to DISPLAY you.

Pushing the non-violent and life-saving option on the hot-head of the group and making him stick to it through training ...such a classic Master Splinter move.

All the turtles have a conflict with their weapons. Raph has blunt weapons despite being the most aggressive, Mikey is adhd but was given nunchuck, which require the most precision, Donatello has the simplest weapon even though he's the smart one, and Leo has the most lethal even though he usually struggles the most with killing.
