What else should be done with less valuable members of a country's population?Light infantry is perfectly useful as a formation that an enemy can focus on while cavalry prepares to do the real work.
What will light infantry look like in the future? I can only see mass drone swarms being given out to specialized units or lone lieutenants who can see the big picture.

>>65466081I had a similar idea. RTS like AOE2, but you're trying to move an army across the map and manage all the support units>send foresters to cut down trees>use the trees to build a raft bridge across a deep river>engineers dig simple fortifications to let your infantry protect the bridge head from enemy cavalry raids while you bring the supply train across
>>65466083Contracting a horrific cock-rot from some ho that sent you insane wasn't entirely rare either for traveling soldiers
