Apart from the first drill, is there any point in practising the rest of the drills? They seem more like physical conditioning and hand coordination drills.

There's general benefits to martial kata to develop hand-eye coordination. For military use, bayonets are rare because a 30rnd magazine weighs the same. However "bayonet" training still applies to military rifles where striking with the muzzle and buttstock has uses.

Go hunt a boar with a spear or something.

Practising Chinese martial arts is an interesting concept, going by track record it's like practising Indian hygiene.

This is fine for having fun or if you ever need to fight a blood feud with your fellow peasants and no one owns anything more than a polearm or farming tool, but formation spear fighting is different to this dance routine. Its a way different thing to learn how to use a spear when you are locked in place and unable to move around.

If you're going to willingly step into a life or death battle, you might as well be damn good at it.
It's like refusing to train beyond basic gun shooting because the 100th bullet is just as fatal as the first.
If the stakes are life or death, that's exactly why you should care about being better than the guy who barely knows what he's doing.
