Should the Navy SEALS go through a complete restructure and culture change? Looking at their past they get many things wrong and some things right, they have a team culture but with all the negative traits .Do they still excel in amphibious operations or have they been completely misused in their purpose as a unit and lost their edge?
>>65476101Imagine OP being pinned down and raped by Navy seals, Delta, Rangers, Green berets, Marine raiders, TACPs, Pararescue, CG DOG, all taking turns the GAPING his asshole, just holding him down, he's screaming and crying and begging as they DESTROY his rear with HUGE COCKS, than once America is done with him Russian Spetsnaz RAPES HIM SOME MORE, than the British SBS and SAS, KEEP RAPING HIM, than he's a huddled crying cum covered mess shaking and shivering and sobbing in the curled up in the corner with a gaping asshole.
>>65476101The capability is still there, especially with teams that regularly train underwater and amphibious operations (which is to say, SDV teams)As for the culture, that's a difficult one to address. Most of the NSW leadership would need to be changed and standards would need to be enforced very aggressively to stop them from acting like entitled primadonnas. But of course that would cause a lot of backlash and would probably make a lot of people leave. Which is for the better in the long run, but bad for immediate operational readiness. It might also be worthwhile to make them attend a conventional Army or Marine Infantry School, or an accelerated version thereof, because frankly a lot of their fuckups seem stem from a lack of infantry combat fundamentals>>65476164HotWhere can I volunteer?
>>65476210>It might also be worthwhile to make them attend a conventional Army or Marine Infantry School, or an accelerated version thereof,That's the 3rd phase of BUD/S.
do we really need weekly threads whining about the seals?
>>65476210>Where can I volunteer.Be at your moms by 6:30AM
we're always going to need death squads.
>>65476164>Rapey SEALs
>>65476101Yes, the SEALs lost the mandate of heaven when they stopped doing cool shit (VBSS UDT) and started doing caggot sloperator shit, writing book deals and abandoning comrades to die.
>>65476227I genuinely don't understand why they don't exclusively draw from the combat mos Marines for BUD/S. I'm not in the US military so maybe I'm missing something but it just seems more logical they pulling from sailors.
>>65476489That would mean the Marine Corps would lose good personnel to another branch. They already hate the idea of sending Marines to SOCOM.
>>65476227>That's the 3rd phase of BUD/S.My understanding of Phase 3 is that it's very abridged. For comparison, USMC School of Infantry is twice as long (14 weeks vs 7 weeks) while covering a smaller curriculum.
>>65476210>but bad for immediate operational readiness. I say this with full seriousness: does it even matter at this point? SEALs are getting passed over for jobs that are in their wheelhouse. The Maduro raid was the proverbial nail in the coffin. If you have both Delta and Green Berets launching amphibious operations from a carrier and not a SEAL in sight, then clearly SEALs are no longer trusted with any important missions. So sure, cleaning house would render them operationally dead for at least a few years, but at this point they're basically being treated as a naval version of army rangers than any proper SF.Or perhaps that's the goal, to eventually concentrate special forces operations into the Army alone?
>>65476227I suspect they "train" in infantry fundamentals, but don't really really train in them.
>>65476249Yes
>>65476581It covers everything needed to know about land warfare while also giving more attention to each student. BUD/S has a higher teacher to student ratio which means students get more attention. At large courses like School of Infantry you can miss a class and no one will notice. That is not possible when you have few students.
>>65476101>Do they still excel in amphibious operationsYes.>or have they been completely misused in their purpose as a unitAlso yes.GWOT really did a number on SOCOM
>>65476602>If you have both Delta and Green Berets launching amphibious operations from a carrierWhere did you see this?
>>65476608I want to add that SEALs also shoot more rounds and do more night training.
>>65476249OP is a seething washed out marine that makes these anti-seal threads every so often.
>>65476608That's a fair point. Still, seven weeks is a big difference, necessitating much denser curriculum which I think might significantly hurt information retention. I'm sure sleeping like four hours a night on average and getting smoked nonstop doesn't help with that either.BUD/S serves both as a selection process and a training process, but I think the extreme physical and mental demand of selection is detrimental to the training
>>65476633It's mostly just filler and repetition. Like how the Army's Airborne course is 3 weeks, but SEALs condensed it to 3 days.
>>65476633>I'm sure sleeping like four hours a night on average and getting smoked nonstopThere are 3 phases of BUD/S. You're thinking about the first phase. After that they get as much sleep as they want except the days they do night training.
>>65476629There’s a lot to criticize about the SEALs but most of those problems permeate the entire SOCOM community. Drug use, big egos, lack of oversight, and scope creep are all prevalent in SF, MARSOC, and Delta as well as in the SEALs. The SEALs are just getting the most attention for these problems because the bin Laden raid brought their existence and mission to the public’s attention, which led to a decade of circle jerking, which we are now seeing the backlash for. The truth is that GWOT expanded the mission of these once highly specialized units and created a lot of overlap between them. It also gave them a ridiculous level of autonomy which basically removed external oversight and created an environment where bad actors could flourish while senior leadership covered up fuck-ups and shielded each other from being held accountable.
>>65476602I think the whole North Korea fuck up and the tendency to seemingly constantly lose guys in the water/cause some form of drama incident kinda ruined their rep in the eyes of whoevers planning these things at a high level. Whenever you hear about their missions, theres inexplicably always some pants on head retarded fuck up that shouldn't be happening with guys that "elite", headache city. Why bother with that when there's a new "A team" that's been smashing out way larger missions without so much as a peep in terms of drama?
>>65476661I've heard that while the overall levels of exercise and sleep deprivation are lower in Phase 3, it's still really physically intense and smoke sessions in particular are worse
>>65476761It's more physically intense in that they swim/run further and carry more weight. Smoke sessions are non-existent unless someone really screwed up.
>>65476668I don't think it's fair to say they're all the same. Yes, some problems they have in common to a certain extent (drugs in particular, the retarded op tempo that they were forced into during some points of the GWOT had many guys abusing stims and gear just to be able keep up), it's not all of them and not to the same magnitude.I mean there are a lot of ex-SOF podcasters and stuff and when asked about who they liked and disliked working with, virtually all of the non-SEALs said something about SEALs being undisciplined, entitled assholes.
>>65476729The NK mission would have been so cool if they pulled it off.
>>65476786There was a unencrypted submarine cable in the Sea of Okhotsk from Vladivostok to the main Soviet submarine (heh) base on the Kamchatka Peninsula that the USN managed to put a wiretap on, and then managed to go back every six months to replace the tapes.
>>65476729This reminds of Laura Ling's imprisonment. Her sister met a PMC and they made plans to rescue her. Bill Clinton got her released before the mission happened.
Ya the GWOT fucked the SEALs up. Navy had some SF guys that didnt have a role to play since hajis dont swim and pressed them into a new one. They did alright at first but got used as propaganda, and eventually got replaced with retards who believed their own hype and degraded the professionalism and capabilities of the SEALs.
>>65476668Lol, hell fucking no. Rangers, Delta, Marsoc, PJs, fucking Combat Control are INFINITELY more respected and disciplied than the Seals. This goes across the branches, nobody but the Seals, likes the Seals. Even the fucking Seabees will at best, keep mum about the Seals because first and foremost they're the best recruiters in the god damn DoD, and second, they don't have jack or shit when it comes to SOF.I've known exactly one person who had a decent experience with the Teams, and even then he described it as a complete shit show. Every other story I've heard has been them being the biggest dick swinging assholes on the block, who will clear out a whole fucking barracks because they not only want their own personal gym, they want the ONLY fucking building on base with working AC to be THEIR fucking gym. THATS the fucking Seals, god damn squared.
>>65476608Why can't they TAB then?
>>65476645Repetition is vital for retaining information
>>65476668No one eleses fuck ups come even close to red wings and Takur Ghar
>>65476489The entire point of the SEALs is to serve as a recruiting tool to get people who sign contracts where when they inevitably fail, they are able to be put into whatever the Navy needs; paint chippers and other shit jobs that recruitment can't fill but don't require highly competent people like the nuke pipeline which justifies the insane bonuses they pay to try and fill said slots. SEALs don't need to do anything productive other then build their mythos for the Navy to want to keep them around, and it shows in how even SpecWar officer candidates are largely allowed to skate through OCS because they'll either wash out in BUDS or not, though I am unsure if they sign a contract with the Navy after completing OCS like all other officers other then the nukes who're already locked in which would allow them to be moved to fill the eternally gaping SWO shortages or if they don't sign until after BUDS because the Navy normally assigns your designator at the time of signing and you have to be accepted by the designation's community to be allowed to do so.
>>65478328Yeah but consider, to actually build that mythos, they need to succeed at their job. You can't just pretend when the other SF are getting shit done and expect to be held on the same level as them.
>>65476164Just go to /hm/.
>>65477807>Rangers, Delta, Marsoc, PJs, fucking Combat Control are INFINITELY more respected and disciplied than the Seals>MarsocIt was a MARSOC Raider and a SEAL who murdered that Green Beret in Mali because he threatened their drug trafficking side hustle. MARSOC is basically “SEALs but for the Marines”.
>>65476164Based.
>>65478304That's what they do when they get to their unit.
