What options do I have for a gray flat top AR15 upper? I'm trying to match "Colt grey" for a rifle build I had an idea for. Seems like a reasonable color that isn't too out there but my options are limited and the manufacturers are often ones I've never heard of. Looking for an upper around $100, give or take $20. Needs forward assist and dust cover cut. Should be milspec. BCM had demo uppers that appeared grey but they're OOS and I didn't see them elsewhere except for $150 OOS. Pic is grey but it's cerakoted, not anodized IIRC.Previous: >>65408772
>>65478126If your budget is that tight you'll probably have to go hunting for a used upper.
>>65478134Doesn't need to be complete, just stripped or with charging handle and door; I'll probably buy the bolt separate. I can go a little higher no big deal; I just haven't looked for an upper in a long time and it looked like $90-120 was still a realistic range for milspec. I should go to a LGS or two and see what new or maybe used uppers they have FWIW, good point. I'll probably check them in a week or two. Also, giving away my idea here, I guess I can just buy the real deal, a prototype even, with blueprints. Only like 4x what I want to spend on my rifle for just the upper lol. I'm fine coping with a picatinny flat upper for now until I figure something out.>Colt 656 prorotpe upper with original blue print $5500https://www.sturmgewehr.com/forums/index.php?/topic/36274-misc-colt-m16-parts-prorotpe-cutaway-armalite-601…/
>>65478126Brownells and cerakote it?
>>65478126For that budget I'd just get a can of Aluma-Hyde. I also recommend Moly Resin if you have an airbrush.
On the off chance someone else is down this hole, is there any sort of chassis for the Steyr A2 MF line? Did some digging and all I found was a reddit post of a dude firing one with what I assume was an FRT or just fast trigger finger in a chassis, plus an abandonded Odysee project. No one selling anything. I messaged the dude hoping he might have something, no reply yet.
Anyone here try 223 reduced plastic ammo? It's very cheap, but some sources say it won't cycle without an adapter??? I intend to shoot these in my m16a1 and sar 80
>>65478126I only know of 2 companies that anodize anything grey and they only do it for "retro" parts. cerakote is probably your best option, the other one being just painting it.

>>65479552I already went to college, turns out I'm unemployable.
>>65479536SDI is a literal scam.
>>65479556Eh, it's more or less what any reasonable person would expect from a long-distance video-course "school".Such "schools" have always been shady in that they over-promise and over-charge in exchange for borderline useless copy-paste degrees. The same can be said for virtually all "legitimate" US colleges these days. But SDI are indeed shady in that they practice especially predatory pricing when they sell tools and materials "required" to complete their courses. The main scam they pull is accepting GI-bills in exchange for their services, which is an absolutely terrible deal, blatantly preying on clueless ex-military dumbasses.Anyone who wants to get into gun smithing can learn the same basic skills with $500 worth of tools and materials from Amazon and free woodworking and metalworking tutorials on Youtube. The hitch being that they won't have "official" paperwork to prove it. Gun smithing remains one of the rare few professions where oral testimony of apprenticeship by a recognized master, and practical experience, matter far more than any formal papers "proving" that the holder possess a certain skills.
>>65478126How has walther got away for years advertising the PPK/S and PPK at 19 oz when they are both well over 20 with or without the magazine? Is it something stupid like only the frame is legally the firearm so that is what is 19 oz?
>>65479734Please direct that question at S&W.Walther hasn't made PP/PPK pistols since 1945 when Adolf shot himself and the frogs seized the Walther factory and their blueprints. The original-spec Franco/Germanic PP-series pistols haven't been imported to the US since 1968 GCA instituted their bullshit pistol point system, and the US-produced "Walther PP-series" pistols are only vaguely related to the German originals. The unlicensed East-German PP clones are closer to the originals than anything sold in the US since the late 1960s.
>>65479752S&W hasn't produced the ppk for over a decade.
>>65478342Unless I chop a carry handle or buy an M16A4 they don't make flat tops available without being complete with the exception of a $250 billet upper completely stripped which is pretty pricey for a 300yd max rifle when it doesn't have the door, bolt, charging handle, or anything forward of the upper.>>65478566FWIW I have a paint pot and some paint guns with the quart size paint cans on them. I do worry about paint chipping at the edges near the rail or at the corners but it's a possibility. Still a black interior or black at spots of wear like a cheaply resprayed car, though.>>65478706Yeah I'll probably buy the OP pic for like $120. PSA does grey under H&R retro but their search system is total ass and I had a hell of a time finding anything. I might just have to find the H&R category on their site and try to use filters to see if they make a flat top. Also need to look into bolt quality there and compare with SOTAR's videos. I do have a bolt but there comes a point where you feel stupid sharing one bolt in two or more rifles. Also, I was trying to avoid cerakote as I've heard quality varies wildly from:>nearly a part of the metal the rifle is made fromto>why the fuck doesn't my rifle function?(coating thickness causing function issues; see also: SOTAR AR bolt videos)to>"oh my god this shit flakes off like spray paint" (similar to Ruger's powder coat)So I feel I might be rolling the dice on a sub-$100 cerakoted upper from "Total War Tactical" (OP pic) who also sell things like "TOXIC ZOMBIE GREEN" and "GOP RED" keymod handguards, lol.>>65478719FWIW if I ever got stupid rich, buying and scanning shit like this is to make available what I'd do. I can't believe out of all the retro things made, no one's tried to chop carry handles, drill and tap for rail, and make faux-656 uppers. It being a prototype worse version probably hurts the guy's chances of selling, though, unless he had ones for a close to final version.

I am looking at purchasing a new hunting rifle. I am used to 30-06 and other milsurp calibers but I want to get something thoroughly modern. I am considering 6.5 sneedmore and 7mm prc. I will primarily be hunting deer. These two specifically because they are options both available on the rifles I'm considering.6.5 seems like it has wide adoption and a variety of flavors available. Its very accurate and predictable. Possibly less reliable for larger game7mm prc seems like it has a very flat shooting arc and more stopping power. Possibly poor support from manufactures and availabilityAny thoughts on what direction I should take?

>>65484923I'm just an interested amateur, so this is all AFAIK.*If* SCOTUS were to declare the NFA unconstitutional, state governments would be (theortically) blocked from making their own state versions. I'm sure in practice certain states would get butthurt and pull bullshit like some did after Bruen, since until a court individually slaps down any given state law it remains in effect, and shitass politicans rely on inertia to put bad laws in place. I think though, realistically the NFA's constitutionality won't go in front of SCOTUS. To get to them requires the loser appealing it upwards. The ATF currently lost on suppressors and by all appearances doesn't plan to appeal it upwards. That means that NFA law regulating suppressors isn't definitively unconstitutional, but living in a kind of limbo state as the law still exists but has an injunction preventing it from being enforced. The ATF probably doesn't want to roll those dice in front of SCOTUS.

Then the panic began when Obama got elected, I think the biggest change wasn't guns but ammo.Guns are as accessible as they've ever been for most of the country, but the ammo situation got bad with the import bans and has just never improved and probably never will.
>>65495697>Damn AF needs perfect eyesight to be a grunt. Not at all, if you're correctible to 20/20 you can be a pilot and I don't know the standards for general admission but it's probably just correctible to 20/30 or something. Anon is lying or has some serious eye problem that the AF identified but the Navy did not.
>>65487516Afaik, no. The closest thing is that modernized skullcrusher you can attach a boonie hat to. If you wanted to do that, I think you'd need a whole 3D printed assembly to mimic the PVS-5 stylings, then attach the straps to that.

what has more recoil 44 magnum from a revolver with a 5" barrel or 7.62x54r from an obrez with a 2" barrel?
>>6549883644oberez is a significantly lighter projectile with mostly unburnt powder
>>65498842what if it was a 12" barrel like a contender?
I want laser engraving files for pmags that go hard, like weird spells and shit like that that disturb normies and is edgy as fuck. who sells that shit?I also want other magpul item files like the dakka box etc.
>>65496242Thanks, was hoping someone had already done it. Thinking the best why would be to make a pvs5 housing and straps and have the pvs7 insert into it.
>>65498872There's various businesses who will put anything you want on a magazine, pretty much completely indiscriminately. Oh, look at that, mysoutherntactical is still in business, I remember threads about them.
>>65498836Barrels are measured from the breech face so a 2" barrel wouldn't even cover all the brass of the cartridge.
>>65499463idk the guy messed up his sbr paperwork so I had to fudge it a little. it ended up like this.
>>65498872You should laser engrave the shotgun you use to blow your head off you fucking faggot. Are you 14?
>>65495230Any business where you are taking possession of another person's firearm requires an FFL. You should keep your mouth shut when you have no clue what you're talking about, bitch.
>>65486764not very good and it also highly depends on your area. the last gun store I worked at was in an area full of rich techbros so I charged $120/hour for labor. some jobs like installing glock sights was basically stealing and I could charge 50 bucks for 5 minutes of work. putting an ar together was $80 for just a lower or $120 for the entire rifle. on the other hand some jobs I was basically forced to underbill because it would take a whole afternoon of work but no one would actually pay $500 for fixing some shitty old gun. if you want to make money gunsmithing you need to be someone with a reputation like mark novak so you can actually bill jobs what they're worth.
>>65495662Turned 18 in 2008 and bought a nugget and spam can for ~$175 but didn't shoot often since guns are an expensive hobby when the economy is collapsing.
>>65500527I bought a hex nugget from JG Sales in either 2011 or 2012. It was $112 DELIVERED with my 03 FFL. Spam cans were $80-100.
>>65498872>go hard You have to be 18 to post here
>>65499575Right, and all "non-sporting" imported rifles must have at least 10 us made parts according to 922(r) too lmao If the OP (who mentioned "business" zero times) does it on the side as a "hobby" that he happens to make money doing, you dont need an ffl.Think about this, if a friend asks you to mount a scope on his gun for him, would you refuse him because you dont have an ffl?
>best striker fired pistol on the market >nobody talks about it and only like 20 people own one Why?
>>65500612>reminder

>>65500589>>65499569 why are your jimmies so rustled over edgy mag art? you will never find a girlfriend with that attitude. >>65499149I want my own personal copy of the file.
>>65501799Then you'll just have to make it yourself. I can tell you how I'd do it for the equipment I have at work, but I doubt you'd be using the same Graphics software/CAD/engraver software stack I am.

I can understand the usefulness of full auto fire for immediate suppression, blind firing around corners and even doing irl gamer shit like pre firing before peeking a corner. My question is when is it viable if ever to burst fire at a target as apposed to firing semi automatically? My thought process is when you have a clear shot on a target at closer ranges you want to ensure you kill that guy as fast as possible making an accurate burst more viable than shooting semi-auto. And for longer ranges, when firing at fleeting targets, especially in a supported position, firing a burst to get a "shotgun pattern" effect to maximize the chances of a hit on the target. Is any of that legitimate or no?
>>65502206matched dust cover and fa are oos at the moment but keep in mind this is how much they could cost.https://bkingsfirearms.com/shop/bkf-b-kings-firearms/bkf-mil-spec-forward-assist-and-ejection-port-cover-sniper-grey-cerakote/
>>65502741No, at medium to long ranges semi auto will always be more accurate than bursts from full auto. Full auto's use case is suppression for maneuver, and occasionally overwhelming return fire for a retreat. Close up within 7 - 20 yds, yes I'm sure it's useful but from what I've seen most special forces guys still just use semi auto. You control the cadence so it won't run off on you and make you miss.
>>65500612Big unnecessarily chunky slide makes it recoil way more for absolutely no reason. I own a G47, G19, P10-C, M&P 9 4.25" and 5" models, CZ P-07, USP 9, and P-10F and when I tried my buddy's G19 sized PDP it felt great in the hand but felt like a 20 lb brick slamming back every shot I took compared to those listed above.
>>65500607He mention charging people to clean guns. Sounds like a business to me you slackjawed fucking retard.
Does anyone have that picture of the finnish dude screaming in a corner?

>>65478126Does 7.62NATO have an equivalent how 5.56 had .300blk? Like a necked up case meant to use shorter barrels?
>>65507559>enragedI just think what you consider "edgy" to be very surface level, pedestrian, and unremarkable. Additionally, the fact that you used the absence of a gf as an insult proves that you're simply shitposting and you dont actually have a sincere question to ask ITT. Or you're autistic.
>>65507740thats going on a mag, stallman style, Mr. >tfw no gf thank you for participating in my focus group.
>>65507849I have no idea wtf you're saying
>>65507576sort of. 8.6 blackout uses 7.62 NATO mags
>>65508045It pretty much is. Technically 8.6 is a necked up 6.5cm, which itself is a necked down .30 TC, which itself is a slightly modified .308
>>65508087neat. I don't own any 8.6 guns so I don't actually know much about it.
