This doesn't work because that unit will eventually have to report to an officer who isn't of their ethnicity and if they're emboldened by ethnocentrism then they won't take the officer's orders seriously.

2. At a core level, the US and most western states have embraced Civic Nationalism over Ethnic Nationalism. I could write paragraphs on it and all of us could have a fun shit flinging debate on it but what that ultimately means is that shared citizenship alone is enough of an equalizer that all other distinctions are considered unimportant. In the past, that wasn't always the case. But this is the state of the world in 2026 and so with few exceptions, an X-ethnicity American unit will be seen as an outlier because all that matters is that they are American.

For the US there would be no benefit and the only "benefit" in WW2 of segregated units was the idea that there would be too many racists that would refuse to serve if their unit was integrated. This obviously doesn't apply anymore and perhaps wasn't even true at that time.

Professional politicians have existed since politics started.
If you want to point to a moment that fuelled professional politics, it's salary for politicians but even before then, they just had to make a living through influence and bribery instead of a payroll.

What triggered the current state of african-america neighborhoods was crack, massacres of rising middle class blacks, systematic discrimination to keep them locked out of ownership, and denial of benefits that whites got in the same situation.
It took until well after vietnam for blacks to reliably access the GI bill or veteran-based housing. And by then the crack epidemic had basically destroyed any hope for advancement for black kids in the ghetto.
