>>65486021
No one cares, it's still just a pistol caliber.
>>
>>65485624
They're blowback 9mm guns, so they recoil a bit more sharply than .223, but hardly bad. Less cleaning, since no gas system.

>>65485749
FRTs only reason to exist is to attack the NFA so that true machinguns can be deregulated. They are kinda shitty when compared to real automatic weapons.

Also, the Colt SMG is generally pretty reliable. Uses a copy of the Uzi magazine, different notch cut out and also has a LRBHO, so if you cut a new notch in any Uzi magazine it'd work in the Colt SMG, and if you cut a new notch in a Colt SMG magazine it'd work in an Uzi.

Like any full-fun 9mm, it's enjoyable.

>>65486044
That is, for feeding, the LRBHO tab won't do anything in an Uzi. Though I guess it'd be cool if someone converted an Uzi to work with it, then you wouldn't need to rack the bolt after swapping mags, just like on a Thompson.

>>
>>65486254
Mini Uzi is a lot faster than the Uzi, but there's way to alter the cyclic rate (also the compensator cuts help regardless, just practice trigger control some). Micro Uzi is the one that's actually full retard and dangerous if you don't know what you're doing, the stock barely helps.

So here's a converted Uzi pistol registered as a transferable MG. Hold on fucking tight.
>>
>>65486351
All of them. Uzi is too heavy
>>
>>65485799
But you don't even own an smg.
>>
>>65486457
They're not THAT rare, there's I think over 170k transferable machineguns total on the American registry, and they get traded around. Many hundreds of thousands more sample ones. Aside from the fact that you could still get a rebuilt Sten parts kit for like $5000 or less just 12 years ago or so, I've seen people post transferables and even sample ones on /k/ before.
Here's a transferable 1928 Thompson which an anon posted some time ago. Complete with a rare 100rd drum.

That's not even counting some foreign collectors, there's a Swiss anon who has an extremely impressive collection of various cool weapons, some which are fully automatic weapons and cannons.
That guy is on the more serious and extreme end of collectors, but if you have that kind of licensing in Switzerland (which isn't that difficult for them to get), then getting just AKs and old WW2 era subguns isn't hard. Since they have no kind of Hughes Amendment thing, and only those guys can buy the full-auto stuff, it's outright cheaper to buy a milsurp full-auto AK than a semi-auto commercial one, and there's quite a lot of old Papashaws and MP40s on that market too.

Last but not least, we have the people who are employed in some sort of military or police service in places where they still keep some old subguns around (basically as old reserve arms). They wouldn't be owning those guns, but they may well have done a bit of shooting with them and have familiarity with them.
There's also the criminal elements, but let's not get too fedposty.

If I recall right, anon said that it wasn't one of the more common West Hurley Thompsons, but actually an old one, like an original Auto Ordnance, or maybe it was a Colt made one, so presumably he's rather wealthy.

Aside from rebuilt Stens, there's old Reisings, and then the various MAC M11s and M10s, which used to be especially cheap for a long time, until Lage started making slow-fire uppers for them, making MACs actually more nice and desirable MGs.

Anyways, I'm getting an SP5k next week. It's gonna be fast and quiet. I need to order an 80 degree locking piece though. My body is ready.

The collapsing stock model had shorter mags, IIRC around 40 which is on par with Beretta M38, so I wouldn't worry. The solid-stocked ZB47 held somethink like 70 rounds on the mag and since the company was trying to persuade the army to convert to a 9 Luger clone with a straight-walled case they probably ran into, or at least predicted some issues... But even the longbois worked good enough with regular 9 luger to pass army testing, getting beat by CZ Strakonice SMG prototypes cause they were cheaper and better.

I really didn't want to give money to Raregreed but unfortunately, I don't want to deal with AS Designs and their bullshit anymore. Their MP5 lower and super safety would have probably one malfunction every 60 rounds and the rate of fire was insane, close to 1000 rpm without a suppressor. AR-HK looks like another stinker that's been delayed a million times and it's got a stupid ass set screw so I just got a Raregreed

The Raregreed has genuinely had 0 malfunctions in about 270 rounds of FRT firing. I wanted to eliminate any variables so it's exclusively been Blazer Brass 124 gr through HK mags and with no suppressor. Rate of fire seems to be about 850 rounds per minute which is close enough to the 800ish rounds a minute an MP5 is supposed to do. I just like that I can use a normal grip and a normal selector level instead of a stupid ass cross bolt safety.

For being a mostly plastic gun it ain't bad but its always going to be compared to the MP5. My main gripes is that the stock is fairly long (an ass hair longer than the MP5 A3F stock fully extended) which means using irons requires you to scrunch your shit awkwardly for a positive sight picture. Obviously, not an issue using red dots or holographic sights though. Also the mags are fucking long thick sticks of plastic regardless of caliber because of the universal caliber nature of the UMP.

The big pros are having an AR-15 style bolt catch for last round bolt hold open but still including the MP5 style charging handle notch, that its a very clean gun with minimal down time for any sort of cleaning and lubing, and it has plenty of pic rail real-estate for mounting stuff.

The trigger on F/A UMPs isn't that awesome either but if you are running a clone at least swapping in the USC FCG will give you a decent upgrade overall over stock.

What I said pertains to all 3 calibers really. I assembled my gun using a .40s&w HK UMP parts kit, S5 receiver, and HK USC FCG. I find this to be the best bang for the buck option for someone who wanted the platform but wasn't chasing a nostalgia clone.

>45 acp
This is the caliber most folks want due to video games. As such the price for HK made parts is about double the .40s&w variant. What do you get for that money? 25 round mags and the worst recoil out of the 3 calibers. Only upside is aftermarket 45 barrels can be bought with threads for suppressor usage. The US made parts kits are hit or miss and might require some tinkering to make it work right. USC conversions are an option too but has its own drawbacks compared to just using a HK parts kit and aftermarket receiver.

>40 s&w
Since 45 is the popular one the price on the .40 s&w HK parts kits is fairly decent and usually half the price of 45acp. You'll get to use straight mags for "the look" but they'll hold 30 rounds instead of 25. Recoil isn't as bad as 45 acp but if your coming from a MP5 its still a very noticeable muzzle rise in comparison. Little aftermarket for the barrels so your stuck with the HK flared barrels for muzzle devices of which B&T stopped making suppressor adapters for it years ago so bird cages is about all you can mount to it.

>9mm
You get to use the cheapest ammo out of the three calibers but your mags are curved like a MP5. The biggest drawback is that HK made 9mm kits for the UMP are rare in the US and cost way above even 45 acp kits (if you can even find one) so your stuck with US made barrels and bolts which don't have the greatest reliability. Recoil should be acceptable but since its blowback its no MP5 either.

The .40 S&W, aside from having the right aesthetic, feels like it's worth it on the point that most people ignore that caliber now, and it's easier to find it during ammo droughts. Good reserve caliber.

>so bird cages is about all you can mount to it
Looks kind of cool though, which matters for a gun that's going to be mainly about style and collectability.

God, what a mediocre gun overall though. Could you imagine how much worse it'd be in 10mm Auto? When the MP5 did larger calibers, it did 10mm, and it did it smoothly and in style.

>.40 S&W
.45 ACP is the only chambering I'd bother with for the UMP.

>'smoothly and in style'
MP5/40 is the way to go (10 mm is pointless, just get-build an HK 53; no firearm has ever been chambered in 10 mm 'smoothly and in style' it's a blaster round, and has been permanently made obsolete by rounds such as .300 Blackout in SBRs / short barreled select fire rifles. 10 mm is only for people that want to bother with it for handgun hunting and long range handgun target shooting; even for that it's been made obsolete by 7.5 FK. It's a dinosaur 'power handgun' round conceived in the boomer 60s-70s days of magnum revolvers<--which are still valid of course for you guessed it, handgun hunting and long range target shooting)
.40 S&W is an excellent pistol chambering and the best most effective one for the MP5, although of course 9 mm is the classic OG round for that submachine gun.

Pretty much the only reason anyone should own .40s&w guns these days unless they stumble upon a great deal (which is usually LE trade-in guns). I have a USP 40 and M&P 40 as well but have 9mm slides/barrels for both that I usually use now.

Any conversion that may exist too especially if it's like 357 SIG which does even better out of a longer barrel I think a guy read over 3000 PFS on a chrono out of a carbine. The first firearm type since the invention of smokeless powder to actually go obsolete. Shotguns, bolt action rifles, and revolvers still have some uses, but there's legitimately no situation in which an SMG is better than an equivalent length carbine anymore.

for the low low price of $3000 you can have a shitty stocked pistol with one of the worst triggers ever made, intentionally retarded barrel so you have to buy a proprietary suppressor, and magazines that crack when dropped from waist height onto hard surfaces
>>
>>65499439
If you do >>65496360 's idea, you could have a 92gr pistol cartridge flying at 3,000 fp/s, since 7.5 FK BRNO is 2,500 fp/s from a 6" barrel.

The full-sized Uzi weighs about 8.8lbs loaded with 32rds of 9mm Parabellum.
The Mini-Uzi weighs about 6.9lbs when loaded with the same 32rd magazine.

The M1A1 Thompson weighs 11.3lbs when loaded with 30rds of common 230gr .45 Auto, and it does this with much less barrel length and no folding stock options. The older Blish-Lock variants often had longer barrels and weigh just slightly more, and with a 50rd drum of .45 they weigh a lot more, and the rare 100rd drums would make for a LOT of weight.

I actually love the Thompson (especially the M1A1, it's fucking cool), but you're just fucking wrong and retarded.

I love my MAC5 MP5 clone with Leber V2 lower. Always a favorite of all my friends. Great range toy.

The thing that makes me laugh is when people try to still defend sub machine guns as usable tools. Once they figured out how to properly time a short barreled AR-15, the sub machine gun class of weapons became totally obsolete. .223 Remington is far more lethal than 9MM Luger, and it also will travel through less walls.

Depends on what application you're looking for, sometimes you WANT more penetration, hence greentip 5.56mm, but you also can't really make a 5.56mm or .300BLK carbine the same very short and compact size that you can make a pistol cartridge SMG.
Now, this kind of weapon isn't a frontline infantry weapon anymore, but I can still see appeals in compact but easily controllable automatic weapons.

The AP5 is not better than the MAC5. They're both Turkish shit made by the same company.

My MAC5 has literally had ZERO failure to fires or failure to ejects. I installed the Leber V2 before ever having fired it (bought it new). It worked on super safe on the very first magazine. I just did the proper upgrades and tuning to it first.

They're absolutely toys, even the SP5. You're a complete and absolute moron if you actually used it in a real combat situation over an AR-15. There's a reason no serious armies of police forces use pistol caliber rifles anymore.

In my opinion it's the more practical but less fun MP5. Little more recoil, little more cramped, there's a technique to using the charging handle if you have an optic mounted in a normal spot but it's really fucking tiny and it's still a reasonable length with a big suppressor on it. Can find a decent 147 gr and used that as subsonic ammo instead of needing specialty 150/158/165 gr stuff

FN P90 is one of the few options of near-rifle firepower with the other SMG advantages (recoil, compactness, lightweight and available), especially since 5.7 ammo became popular.

More common than you would think. The additional barrel length has diminishing returns especially for a close-quarters weapon that might also be silenced. Also by using a full-size pistol barrel you simplify manufacturing by using an existing part or toolings

5.7mm still isn't that amazing from a carbine barrel (you aren't gonna get that sweet SCHV cavitation), and 9mm Parabellum ammunition generally has the same weight per round as the typical weight of 5.56mm NATO, so that's a rather minor difference by itself.

>>65512038
4.6mm is just slightly worse. May as well go for a larger bullet, ergo the MP9 (which is even smaller than the MP7 and P90). The one exception I could see to this would be a 7.5mm FK chambered PDW
>>
>>65512038
Where are you buying 4.6x30mm ammunition? Also the MP7 is a more traditional machine pistol shape.

The 9mm SMGs are all about it being a well known, ubiquitous, cheap round that does well enough.
The .45acp is either a historical holdout or you're staying subsonic, so might as well get wide.
5.7mm gets an ammo capacity advantage along with better lethality than most pistol cartridges, on account of it not really being a pistol cartridge.
.300blk is HATO 7.62x39mm that lends itself well to being SBR.
9x39mm is spetznaz shotput.
5.56mm is because the devs have a HATO bias. It is unfair that it works out of 10" barrels.

Don't know where the fuck my my post went but bottle necked rounds are a thing because they possess hydrostatic blasting effect on tissue. A 9mm in comparison is a joke.

I wish I could find the video of a guy shooting 357 sig liberty defense ammo out of a rifle length barrel. That velocity was sitting around 3000 fps. That kind of velocity would make a man get raped and get aids before exploding into bits
>>
>>65512198
>but bottle necked rounds are a thing because they possess hydrostatic blasting effect on tissue
First, hydrostatic shock and remote wounding is bullshit made up by people who don't know what cavitation actually is or how it works, second, whether or not a bottlenecked cartridge is going to actually do this depends HEAVILY on how it's actually loaded. You can make a 30" barreled bullpup in 7.65mm Parabellum and it's not going to cavitate for shit, that bullet just will not go fast enough for that.

Third, this likewise goes for the FN P90 and H&K MP7, neither 5.7mm nor 4.6mm is going to produce cavitation at all, they are not going fast enough, which makes their small and light bullets a disadvantage. You can make up for that though, with more projectile mass, like 7.62mm Tokarev, .357 Sig, or 7.5mm FK

>357 sig liberty defense ammo out of a rifle length barrel
What a shock, the much more powerful cartridge with the bigger and heavier bullet from a long barrel, performed better than a 5.7mm carbine, it's almost like you're making my point for me about how 7.5mm FK Brno would make a much superior SMG/PDW cartridge.

(I think ? the one in that ^weapons convention display pic is a semiautomatic-only pistol)

The Brugger & Thomet MP9 >>65499439 is a Swiss development of the 1990s Steyr submachine gun
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steyr_TMP
B&T purchased the design from Steyr, made some changes including a new buttstock, rails, and trigger safety along with their own proprietary magazines and suppressor.
The MP9 is sometimes called, classified as a 'machine pistol' due to its small size but the gun has an integral foregrip and can be deployed and fitted with accessories just like any other submachine gun. It also size-and-otherwise fits into the arbitrary 1990s category (that stems from the NATO contest between HK MP7 and FN P90) of 'personal defense weapon' aka PDW and can be further modified by a chambering for the 6.5 CBJ round:

The categorical classification of a submachine gun does not depend on how a firearm is categorized by US law.
The fact that I have to explain this is insane.

Post yours faggot, keep running the goal post all over the place, you don't even have any guns so post hands instead, confirm what we already know

Are Skorpions considered Subs or Machine pistols, or both? It's criminal on how underrated these things are.

(You) are nogunz. Now post a pic of your personal garaged Leopard 2A6
Nobody gives a flying gash dilating fuck about what anybody's personal dildo collection is on the internet.

All full automatic firearms have recoil and 'shake you'
That is why it is called the fun switch

Lmao, no, not at all, setting aside various other guns, the UMP45 is fucking ridiculous, which is why it's the redheaded stepchild of H&K SMGs.

UMP45:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x6-mV1gUu1g
This looks like, passable, by itself, but when you compare to how smooth the MP5 and MP5/10 are, it looks pretty dogshit. The UMP is a cheap and understated economy gun that's mostly a downgrade from the MP5, and the .45 caliber one is its worst iteration by far.

MP5:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKiNyUvB10s
Barely moves. This is why spec ops types loved MP5s, a light carbine with rifle precision and barely any recoil to speak of.

MP5/10:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5L0FAMqN3T8
Moves a little bit more than 9mm, but not that much. A fraction of how much the UMP45 rocks you around, but with more power.

The UMP is a quintessential videogame gun, the only place where it is actually loved by anyone. Coincidentally, in a videogame you don't have to contend with all of the reasons that it's a very mediocre firearm, unlike in real life.

Perhaps that's why you love it so.

It wasn't ever that loved of a gun in the Polish army, but I think the most people ever had issue with was that the slide coming back so far could have it potentially bump the visors on helmets or the brims on hats. Annoying and distracting, but not dangerous.
Polish grunt "Trust me bro!" lore says that the PM63 can take your eyeball out, and they talked to someone who knew someone who said they totally saw it, but there's no evidence of it ever happening.

But here they are

It's physically impossible to have either a submachine gun, or machine gun thread on /k/—4chan's Weapons board—in 2026

Honestly if the 5k drops I'm buying an SP5

yeah well inflation on the Hughes Amendment market
5K is a waste of money for a semiautomatic firearm no matter the type or manufacture brand

No difference in the recoil impulse between the two guns
