nice get

if i registered my own suppressor off of a modular 3d print, could i have multiple suppressors attached together as one piece to fasttrack the registration?
basically just a really long modular device made of baffles that all thread onto each other off 1/2x28 threads, and could then be taken apart & put on multiple guns?
>>
>>65488888
>tfw state law includes "legally registered" as a requirement to use suppressors
Still picked up a Velos that I shot for the first time yesterday
Also bought some 77 gr to try because I forgot how dogshit the fuckton of TulAmmo I had on hand is after shooting terrible groups at 100 yards (and that it's probably best to avoid putting that shit through my nice new suppressor)

No, I live in NC so we can't get them from 4473s. I already own a velos though. Might get the 762 version
>>
No, filling out a 4473 (for a metal tube, no less) is still complying and thus just as bad as tyranny itself.

Celebrating tiny non-victories like gun owners have been doing recently is pathetic. Wake me up when the entire NFA is ripped up and the entire ATF is dismantled, when there is not a single "federally licensed" gun dealer left in the country, and when I can order select-fire belt fed rifles directly to my door from the manufacturer with cryptocurrency. This could happen overnight if "second amendment enthusiasts" weren't so easily pacified.

>register
If you're a member of one of the plaintiff organizations (GOA, CCRKBA), the injunction should mean you can just make silencers with no Form 1. Serialization requirement may still apply, depending which org; there's some dispute even for Jensen plaintiffs (CCRKBA). Also various future options, such as selling them or taking them across state lines (though I think that's SB[R/S]-specific, silencers are okay?) may still require NFA registration, and thus become impossible for any NFA firearm not registered "at birth", since there's no way to legitimately register an already-existing NFA firearm.

If you choose to go through the NFA process at all (because you don't want to join one of the plaintiff orgs, because you want to keep some NFA options open, or because your state law prohibits non-registered NFA firearms), you should assume all rules apply same as always -- each suppressor should be registered separately on its own Form 1 and serialized individually. Even genuinely modular suppressors are effectively prohibited by default*; SOTs can get around this with a specific ruling that a modular product counts as a single silencer, but there's no way for a Form 1 maker to get such a ruling.

Otherwise, the safest choice (other than waiting for ATF guidance) is to make each suppressor separately, and serialize each as required under the NFA -- no Form 1, no registering of any sort.
If you're covered under Jensen, and convinced the injunction protects you from all marking requirements, then there's nothing left to worry about -- print anything you like, any way you like, the only rule is to have fun.

*This is because the NFA defines "silencer" to include "any part intended only for use in [assembling a silencer]"; this creates a risk for a modular suppressor assembled in a short configuration, that any baffles/extensions left over will each be considered a separate silencer.

Think i might just buy another one anyways desu. Went to a local shop earlier and they have some Omega 300s. Dude there said they can handle everything in shop so that'll be nice.

The only thing putting me off of buying another can was having to deal with the ATF site. I remember having a lot of trouble when I did it on my own.

I was leaning towards the Dead Air RXD22ti for a ringside only because it perfectly matched my 10/22 barrel. What are you gonna get?

After some thinking, I think I'll get a Velos 762 for my 300blk AUG and my SAM7R. Might as well anyways since any further progress from GOA, SilencerShop, PSA, and whoever else will take longer than a form 4 lol. Pricier than the Omega but flow through and no barrel length restrictions. The shop doesn't have any in stock but I'll try and ask if they can order it for me.

Kind of a weird thing.

>have FN Five Seven with M10x1 threaded barrel
>buy a dedicated GSL 5.7-22 suppressor
>barrel manufacturer (EFK) advertises for use with GSL, so it should just work
>M10x1 adapter on suppressor won't thread onto barrel
>first thread bites, then gets insanely tight
>fuck
>double check product information on barrel and suppressor
>yup, both are supposed to be M10x1
>double check suppressor and barrel to make sure I'm not retarded
>yup, definitely feels way to tight
>need to figure out which part is out of spec
>go to local ACE the helpful place
>use their nut/bolt size gauge
>mfw both thread perfectly

It would appear that GSL and EFK use opposite ends of the tolerance. With tolerance stacking, I'm now out of tolerance.

I ordered 2 under the assumption that my local NFA dealer would be going along with the ruling. They called me later that day and told me they wouldn't and I couldn't get in touch with Silencer Shop for the last month to cancel my order so I was left stuck waiting a fucking month for them to approve the Form 3 and then ship to my dealer and NOW I'm still having to wait for the Form 4 to be approved. They sold a lot of suppressors by not being totally forthcoming about what dealers would be participating and now I'm left holding the fucking bag. I could have had these 2 cans a month ago if not for those faggots.
>>
>>65494800
that's a pisser, you could buy a tap or die to clean up the threads on either end, or take it to a gunsmith if you weren't comfortable doing it.
>>
>>65495121
I thought about it. But the threads on the suppressor are stainless. Way softer material than what's on the barrel. I'd rather have the barrel wear down instead.
>>65495216
I've got a tap and die set with that size, but I'd rather message GSL and have them provide work instructions or offer support. That way if there is a concentricity issue, I'm covered.

But, honestly, I didn't like the EFK barrel in general. It's just too long. There's a massive gap between the slide and the suppressor. It's even worse with the 1/2 x 28 adapter. I've got a different Five Seven barrel on order from Jarvis, which is shorter.

>>
No, PA doesn't allow suppressors or SBS unless they're in accordance with the NFA so only SBRs for now. I work at an FFL so I get deals on cans; I'm buying my first one, a Saker 556
>>
>>65495407
Why even suppress a five seven? It won't be quiet, and if you use subsonic, it'd be like an expensive 22. Kinda defeats the purpose, don't it?
>>
>>65497678
Why buy such an old outdated suppressor? Are you getting it for like $400?
>>
>>65497678
Wait, PA allows you to make a SBR without a Form 1 now?
>>
>>65497887
>It won't be quiet
Yes, supersonic suppressed is never "quiet"
>and if you use subsonic, it'd be like an expensive 22
Yes, but with a reloadable case, with a more reliable priming system, and a more reliable case feed design due to being bottlenecked and rimless, and bullets that are 50% heavier or more and easy to find and inexpensive
>>
>>65497887
I get your point, 5.7 is supposed to be high velocity, armor piercing, etc etc. But 5.7 has more mass than a 22. It's not as useless as you might think.

But more importantly, it's such a nice damn gun to suppress. It's very pleasant to shoot and the FN Five Seven is very light despite carrying 20 rounds. Even with the GSL suppressor, it's still really light.
I'm always shocked every time I pick it up. My Beretta M9 with the Mojave 9 suppressor feels like a cinder block in comparison.

I'm so glad I didn't buy the B&T dedicated suppressor for the FNs. It's much heavier and would have ruined the gun.
>>
>>65494620
Check out CAT-ODB as well because it's tailor made for your use case. Flow through can designed specifically for .300blk subs and 7.62x39. It tested extremely well on pewscience subsonic .300blk test, far better than the other flow throughs they tested and up there with the quietest traditional baffle cans. The only downside is it won't perform nearly as well on .308/6.5creed etc as a general use .30cal can, but it's a necessary tradeoff if you want subsonic performance with flow-through.

Oregon here, and same situation. Snowball's chance in hell they'll change the state law either, they're still trying to force through the tremendously unpopular Measure 114 despite it being blocked in court multiple times and being opposed by the majority of the population after only passing by less than a percent because of an extremely deceptively-worded ballot entry.
>>
I just bought my first can and now im thinking about buying one of those short cans to ccw every day.
What would be the best smol can that will be hearing safe?
Not really interested in the wipe or wet run systems. I work outdoors and sometimes I just like shooting jackrabbits in the head with my pistol. I dont want to be continually having to re jelly or wipe my suppressor just because I cranked off a round at work.
I also got permission from the state to shoot the elk and deer that are destroying muh corn. And while I intend to use a rifle, I don't always have one on me. So one that can handle the buffalo bore sportsman 9mm +p would be nice. Its subsonic out of a 3 inch barrel

because he doesn't understand what +p or subsonic means, and instead thinks bullets are magically slowed by suppressors upon use
>>
>>65507888
>>65507899
Because a bullet can be sub sonic and still be high pressure. i shouldn't have to to someone who is on an 18+ board and is presumably an adult that a 147 grain bullet needs more charge to get up to speed than a 115 grain bullet.
For comparison, a Winchester whitebox 147 grain bullet has a velocity of 990 fps out of whatever test barrel Winchester uses. Pump up the pressure and you will get a faster round and better performance. But it will still be sub sonic out of ccw barrel lengths.
The speed of sound is roughly 1,125โ€“1,130 fps around 68โ€“70ยฐF.
Lower temperatures can lower the super sonic threshold. But i don't wanna get into that right now. It would have to drop to -15ยฐ to be super sonic

I don't take preventive measures, but cleaning is usually easy.
Don't spend money on the Breakthrough stuff. Get yourself a can of Berryman Chem-Dip Carburetor Parts Cleaner. Much cheaper option, and equally as effective, if not better (also equally as cancerous - wear gloves).
Use this to soak the carbon out of the suppressor. If you're worried about getting lead deposits out, go with a ultrasonic cleaner. I picked one up years ago for use in my hangar, and I use it all the time for so many things. Extremely worth the price. The bigger it is, the more useful it is.

I picked this Gen 2 MPX up for a steal. It came with the 8 and 4.5 inch barrels, 12 mags and the Romeo 7. It does have some issues with the bolt catch being super gummed up with something from the previous owner but I can tackle that later.

I'm having decision paralysis when it comes to a can. I'm not opinionated or picky enough with dedicated pistol cans to have an easy choice so I need some help

Criteria I have is
>Plan B adaptable and has chamber depth that will fit a Jmac 360HD muzzle brake
>Roughly the size of a Surefire RC2
>Doesn't require a ton of tuning to get right
>Easy to find. I don't want to spend weeks/months waiting on a print house

I'm open to suggestions for traditional baffle and flow through style cans. I'm agnostic to build materials. My top two choices right now are the Huxwrx Flow 9k and the Silencerco Spectre 9. I'm worried the flow 9k doesn't suppress very well but I also don't want to spend a ton of money on an adjustable gas valve just to have an expensive wear part that has mixed durability at best. I'd rather just get stronger recoil springs because those don't want to erode as you shoot.

look for hybrid designs that balance noise suppression and backpressure. Don't get a traditional baffle stack, not in this day and age, and not for 9mm.

That silencer syndicate guy just released a huge comparison of PCC suppressors. unfortunately he's focused on sound and not so much backpressure. In the end they simply say that one of their top suppressor picks should have lower backpressure, but it's not scientific or measured.

If you want to use the suppressor on handguns and a carbine then get a suppressor made for pistols.
If you want a suppressor just for the carbine, then get a larger one with more volume.
>>
>>65524489
Just for the MPX, I don't shoot handguns suppressed.

I was also looking ath he Huxwrx 36M because it is larger and is closer to the RC2 in size. The OCL milkman is ugly to me but it seems to be a really good balance

I've been hunting for almost a year now for a dedicated INTERMEDIATE 30 caliber suppressor, optimized for 300blk subs/supers and 7.62x39 subs/supers.

It is so fucking annoying because legit 90% of 30 caliber cans are designed for suppressing FULL SIZE 30 caliber cartridges like 7.62x51 NATO, .308 etc and as such are way too long, heavy, and large for optimized use on intermediate 30 caliber platforms.

I spent like $950 on a fucking Jaguar Faguar Fatty Inconel 7.62 and the piece of shit is so fucking le hecking low back pressure my brain too smoove to swap a buffer and spring and/or install an adjustable gas system product that it a) isn't that quiet at the muzzle because low back pressure meme shit and b) it cycles 300blk subs VERY poorly requiring a ton of gas resulting in a sharp high peak amplitude recoil impulse.

Anyway, unironically the SiCo Omega 300 is probably still a decent can for the money. SiCo STM Scythe (NOT titanium) seems decent also.

The TiTrex 300 SD seems solid but ugly and stupid expensive.

Don't fall for low back pressure shit, I'll tell ya as much.

Hey, just wondering. Do your (assuming surplus) A1 handguards fit normal delta rings? I don't have a straight ring (yet) and I'm going to be using A1 handguards I got a while ago and they barely seem to go in the delta ring when I strip it and put it on by hand. The only thing I can think os that in pics a lot of the round rear of the guards do stick out and I'm just used to how deep later not so tapered guards are clamped by the delta ring. That or it could be the fact that one side has rounded tabs on the slots and the other has squared off tabs. Can't complain when they were like half the then common market price years ago though.

However, i have seen people install the old triangle handguards on newer delta rings.

But there's plenty of video/forum sources with tips and tricks on handguard installation. I think brownells sells a special tool to give you leverage. It could just be a tricky/tight fit install, and not an issue with incompatible parts.

Oh I have this ring and handguards loose. I actually pulled the ring clip, spring, and toothed center piece out of it. The ring is just tight on the handguards and doesn't slip far over them like I expect from using carbine handguards and IIRC how A2s sit installed. Worst comes to worst I end up modifying a $20 ring next spring if they don't work when I get to trying triangular handguards on my new upper. Also yeah I think I'm going to DIY that tool. I should get it but Fall means cash is tight because I'm hunting (buying gear) and preparing for winter (buying even more expensive gear).

The Omega will be more quiet than the Velos, $300-$400 cheaper, 3-4oz lighter.... and with proper tuning the artificially increased dwell time would allow in theory you to restrict the gas at the port using an adjustable gas block and get a longer smoother recoil impulse rather than a high peak amplitude punchy impulse.

I haven't tested this but seen a lot of videos on the low back pressure suppressors and it seems that low back pressure is only good for ARs that can't modify the gas block(like military or LE) or people that are afraid the suppressor will blow off the end someday and want something to run without the suppressor. Everyone else benefits the most from using a high or medium backpressure suppressor and just using an adjustable piston or bleed off gas block. Even websites like pewscience get wildly better numbers on SBRs when using something other than a mk18 oversized gas block. The whole debate surrounding "at the ear dB" seems to get nullified by suppressor manufacturers using their own guns for testing. This is the same suppressor, same barrel length, only difference is the gas block(and maybe the gas tube?).

Guess I might be getting the Omega then. Only hang up is that the Omega has a barrel length restriction so I feel like the Velos may be sturdier. Although that will probably never come up because I won't use anything beyond 308 (16" limit, and I'll have it on a 18"-20") on it and I'll never use a sub 10" 5.56. 300blk has a 7" limit but I suppose 8" is the sweet spot anyways.

This doesn't mean anything practically speaking at this point in the industry. They Velos probably is a bit more sturdy, but SiCo has solid/excellent warranty service and from my understanding the Omega 300 at the minimum uses a stellite/inconel blast baffle, then perhaps stainless baffles for the rest of the stack. This is a totally acceptable configuration in my opinion.

Nice digits, OP.

Anyway, for all the gay paperwork I need, suppressors aren't classified as weapons and my license allows for using them (you didn't think the laws weren't at least a bit gay, did you?) so I have questions. Do I just slap a suppressor on everything? The bolt action rifle, the ar-15, the .22 lr shitter I might get? Are reflex suppressors better for the bolt action because there's less pain with aligning and I'll need to take it off semi-frequently? If the ar doesn't have an adjustable gas system is it not going to be happy about suppressors? Other than weight, balance and possible baffle strikes, what are the other downsides to suppressors?
>>
>>65543438
man I don't have a 22 that I can even thread onto anything.
>>
>>65544471
I may be retarded but can't reflex silencers have other alignment issues? Isn't that why the Allen Engineering silencers have that barrel collar? Depends on length in front of barrel too probably but still.

>>65544963
NTA but I was there like 2 years ago. Biggest pain in the ass is that I like vintage 22s and I need to choose whether I want to thread them or risk those sketchy ass adapters and trust my concentricity rod with my hearing and silencer and maybe rifle on the line. I mean, Maxims used them. But those adapters were probably a little nicer and the baffles a little wider drilled. Hope your screws don't back out or you don't smack a tree with your barrel. Thankfully I'm not at the point of threading old guns yet as I'm doing practical but cool modern guns first.

And when I said I was there not too long ago, I mean it. I think my AR was the only threaded gun I owned! Followed by an AK and a 10/22.
>>
>>65544471
Suppressors are cool but kinda a meme. Nice for keeping the shooting noise down, can confuse animals when you're hunting which is neat, but they make your gun a lot dirtier. If you have a red dot on your pistol, it will get caked with residue from port pop. Best use case for suppressors is on manual guns of course, especially if you are shooting subsonic ammo. Also for a home defense gun so if you need to shoot someone you don't cause permanent hearing loss for everyone in your household.

Aren't suppressors basically just movie slop? From what I gather they only reduce the noise a little bit and are barely worth using at all.
>>
>>65553680
Nah, they definitely make some calibers hearing safe with no real drawbacks. With subsonic 9mm they are usually hearing safe. With .22, even supersonic, they're quiet as fuck, and ringing a steel target is louder than the muzzle report. It's also great for people outside of city limits, but still somewhat close to their neighbors. I don't have one on my rifle because I'm left handed and don't want to get a face full of gas, but they definitely bring the noise down noticeably.
>>
>>65553680

That suppressor is the easiest type to manufacture. The core and mounting threads are made from one piece of roundstock, the tubing is held in place by the nut on the end. It can 100% be disassembled in like 5 seconds. No idea why they say not to.

Getting into a new corner of gun culture always comes with more fucking retard boomer fuddlore.
Is it actually bad to use a suppressor with a booster on a fixed barrel? People are saying it increases the chances of baffle strikes but i dont understand how it wont also just fuck up even worse on a tilting barrel. Is it just some consoomer culture thing forcing us to spend more money?

You need more?

So since 4473s are a go, does that mean if you're in a state with no additional restrictions you can just start making them in the garage?

A thread pitch gauge will save you a lot of headaches if you ever deal with mechanical stuff.
Most of my mechanical headaches have come from not using one

Almost 50/ bucks for a 22 suppressor?

I don't know about the baffle strike thing, but if you use a can with a booster on a fixed barrel then it will reciprocate back and forth as you fire and look really stupid.

That ftw still have to wear ear plugs at the public range

>using no ear pro with suppressors
You do understand that outside of maybe 22lr, every other caliber is still in the "damage your ears" range, right? Just because your ears didn't ring doesn't mean you didn't just get a bit closer to EEEEEEEE.

God damn I hate how you have to preface every fucking post with full context. Yes I mean 22. God dammit itโ€™s like promoting AI to actually do what you want, except itโ€™s trying to avoid mother fuckers trying to be edgy or smartass or know-it-alls. Holy shit I need to make a copilot skill just to post on this fuck ass site.

You can get a fixed insert so it can't reciprocate but that's a lot of work to avoid the simple task of removing the booster from the muffler.

the booster is what screws on to the threads in the barrel, specifically the piston, which only contacts the actual body of the suppressor with a spring
"removing the booster" implies putting something else in its place, such as a direct thread adapter that screws on to the body of the suppressor and also screws on to the barrel, which goes for around a hundred dollars for common threadings.
A spacer insert is 30-40 bucks and might be a better option until you remember that nobody is going to be looking at you shooting in slow motion.
