I'm curious, if an American post apocalyptic city state that didn't have access to major tooling (outside of what some local gunsmith shops happened to have) and wanted to start churning out rifles for their militia fast, what exactly would that rifle most likely resemble? AR-18's? I imagine they'd want a 5.56 or .308 rifle since that ammunition would likely be the most common available. And yeah, I know the boring but correct answer is pretty much just "they'd probably have so many AR-15's laying around they'd just use those" but let's say for some weird reason those just kinda dried up and there weren't nearly enough to outfit the local militia forces.

But if the entire world was recently nuked back to the stone age, then your arms factory isn't going to have all the shit you need to be making 5.56 rifles. Electricity, CNC mills, supply chains for alloy steel, technicians, etc. We already know what kind of guns people tend to produce in the absence of these things: 9mm blowbacks. No supply chains are really needed, everything can be cut and fitted by hand or on a lathe, and scrap steel can be used for all components (although you need to find hydraulic tubing or something for the barrel). Depending how desperate things get these guns can be made to function in the absence of a stock, charging handle, extractor, and barrel rifling. They can run on black powder ammo. Check out the PPS-42 to see a gun made in nearly apocalyptic conditions during the siege of Leningrad. It's so simple, elegant, and optimized for production that it's just beautiful.

I know for a fact I can get way better at lineart than I currently am but I just don't have the time to set up my tablet every day, my mother is around too often and I don't wanna deal with the conversations and jokes about me drawing anime girls. I've talked about it before in a previous /ak/ thread but if you wanna prove to yourself you're capable to get a confidence boost, start drawing with pencil+paper first, and use references. Drawing from memory is hard and even if I'm okayish at doing it myself, I still get better results with a reference.Getting into coloring/shading/rendering though? That can take years to get really good at, and even when you're good at it it's time consuming. It's why a lot of artists stick to cel shading

Every single NCR trooper is depressed and hopeless, they regularly grapple with the very real concept that they'll have to commit suicide to escape being captured and tortured to death or used as a slave until they die, many have fallen into drug abuse to escape their shitty reality and their own leadership is either trying to scam them all for a few quick bucks or is actively aiding the enemy war effort in an act of hopeless accelerationism, such as Chief Hanlon.It says a lot that the best ending for the NCR is either House or Yes Man, because it forces them to stop blindly expanding while not bordering a more powerful genocidal empire run by a god-king, and instead bordering a more powerful economic powerhouse gambling empire run by a libertarian god-king. It forces the NCR to course-correct and change to continue existing. If the NCR wins, all of their deleterious laws and cultural practices are only justified in the eyes of its leaders and hapless citizens, they'll keep on mindlessly expanding like a tumor and remain a shithole somewhere between Mexico and Brazil in terms of quality of living and blatant corruption. And for all your efforts single-handedly saving their failed state, you get a token civilian award and a firm pat on the back as they tell you to get the fuck out of their new territory.

They're just varied, typically either simple weapons that can be easily maintained and have their ammo cheaply reloaded like 9mm submachine guns and various leverguns and revolvers, or powerful small arms like the 12.7mm SMG or Assault Carbines. They likely even have their own logistics trains in Arizona funneling locally-produced firearms to the Mojave. The NCR's very basic standardized kit doesn't count for much when their retarded bureaucracy holds back their own logistical trains, when they aren't marching said caravans straight into ambushes.They're also utterly gimped in terms of body armor, people shit on the Legion for using football padding but the NCR's armor is actually equivalent or even worse DT-wise. They wear cheap boiled leather vests and helmets, partly because any existing combat armor and energy weapons they have is being funneled towards the hired goons of ((Brahmin Barons)) used to slaughter ranchers and legally steal their land and cattle.As far as combat goes, we see the situation at the Dam. The Legion uses far superior tactics to run laps around NCR positions both times. The NCR is saved only by the direct and sole efforts of the player character, if they choose to help them. It's not hard to see why the local tribes choose to help the Legion either, the NCR makes no effort to hide the fact that they're foreign colonists who are only interested in kicking the locals off their land so they can use it instead. Rather than the presence of NCR troops being protection against local thugs, they hole up in their garrisons and only leave to beat up the natives once the raiders go home for the day. The Legion actually offers safety by punishing outlaws and offers to admit said tribes fully into the Legion in exchange for total dissolution of their prior identity and culture.
