I've had this idea in mind for a couple years to make modern shotgun barrels for older models (Ithaca 37, Auto-5, etc.) so they could use steel shot and have changeable chokes. Any thoughts on this?

>>65493448The A5 has been rated for steel shot for like 40 years. I know new Ithacas are too, although I don't know when that started. If someone has a barrel that predates a steel shot rating then why wouldn't they just buy one from the manufacturer themselves? In my experience looking for shotgun barrels I've often ended up just buying a whole new shotgun in whatever configuration I wanted because barrels are expensive enough to be a significant chunk of the cost of the gun, the only way I see your idea being feasible is if you can significantly undercut the price of the major manufacturers with acceptable quality.
>>65493448Look for barrels that are always sold out. 30" or 32" 870 Wingmaster barrels, for example. Or make them with a better choke system than RemChoke - that would be awesome. Give them a Browning style lengthened forcing cone, a .740 overbore, and an Invector Plus choke system and I would definitely buy a couple.

Paying Beretta $1200+ dollars for a freakin spare/replacement shotgun barrel is nuts.Also making overbore barrels for 12ga 3½ supermagnum shotguns - except for a couple of Mossberg models, these guns are underbore for the loads they shoot. Mossberg was right to give their 3½ 12ga a 10ga bore.
Being able to shoot ducks with steel shot in a Remington Model 31 or a vintage Winchester Model 12 would be awesome.

>>65497993Not anymore - they stopped making them multiple years ago.Last I checked the new Ithaca still makes the 37, but they're very expensive for a pump shotgun.
