So if you were to make a knife with a wood sheath, how tight should the wood sheath be? Some hold and grip over the blade or just non-effort slide out? The leather above also grips the blade i suppose.

They are clearly competing with Fallkniven, off the top of my head the model A1. I have no problem with Mora making better knives. Is it worth two Peltonens to me? Not really, although it would be an excellent knife. I did buy a full tang Peltonen M07 so I might just be retarded.

When I made puukko's in junior high woodworking class, I think the wooden sheath was just one cut of circular saw and it holds fine the blade with some friction. Then you glued a piece of wood on the top to close it.

Just got an Auto RSK in Magnacut and G10 and I think I've found the one. Feels amazing in my hand, definitely underrated. If you can carry automatic knives, it's because of Doug Ritter so you owe it to him to buy a knife and I'd say the Auto RSK is as good as any.

Why would I pay this kind of money when I could get an ESEE knife with a Kydex sheath and Micarta handles? They have a no questions ask forever guarantee on their knives. Glass fiber is kind of a joke at this price imho
>>
>>65497179
I own a few Esee knives. 1095 is the most basic bitch wet noodle steel out there. They have a finger choil (gay). No swedge on the larger models for stabbing. CM6 does, but costs as much as the carbon Mora somehow. Flat handle scales suck. 3D milled scales also somehow suck and made for handlets. The only good Esee knives are the Xancudo and the AGK in stainless. Just get a Peltonen instead, they cost less than the most basic bitch design made from the most basic bitch steel in the US somehow.

Why does someone always bring this up as if it means anything.

Normal moras have a basically nonexistant microbevel that has zero impact on cutting, and is just an artifact of cheap sharpening. The garberg has a real ass secondary bevel they call micro, that has a massive impact on slicing. This has an even worse one.

It has a huge impact on sharpening when noobs put the knife on the stone with the flat part of the primary bevel and then wonder why they grind and grind with their new 3.000 grit water stone and the knife still wont get any sharper.

While ilves is a damn fine knife, DO NOT baton it. The rat-tali tang WILL break. I tried it, and it broke. Should have believed when they told me that it would.

If you want a truly indestructable utility knife that will not break unless you fully intend to deliberately break it, go for Peltonen's Ranger knife or Varusteleka's Jääkäripuukko. Those are conscript/grunt proof. They are a bit expensive these days, but not exorbitrantly so unlike some knives who go for ridiculous gucci price range.. They will last longer than you will. Buy good, cry only once.
>>
>>65495275
I don't understand the appeal of Moras. Straight back and scandi grind make them obvious hunting and woodworking tools, but wtf is using them for dressing animals and shack-building in current day and age.
>>
>>65503700
You can still get a Peltonen for $100 if you get it on sale. Some places normally carry them at $109. The cost, weight, performance, and vibes are hard to beat. Of course Teravas are now easier and cheaper to get.

What do you even want a knife to be good for? Want it to be an infinitely worse axe? Maybe an extremely dangerous and low quality crowbar? Youtube and its consequences have been a disaster for knife design.
>>
>>65503993
Probably someone who thinks they will be stabbing people more than quartering game or making tarp supports. Thats not to dismiss tactical knives, they have their place. But to be confused about the utility of a Mora is silly.
>>65503989
Mora isn’t allowed to make a better knife? I wouldn’t recommend the Elmax model at all, but the carbon and 14c28n models should be good to go if you want the features.

>>65503700
I have one of those older model ranger knives where the blade is actually V-shape from the edge to the back of the blade. They aren't exactly scandi-grind, just a V-shaped blade. (the upper blade in the picture)

And... they are surprisingly good for in-the-field cooking. Chop onions and gut fish like a chef's cooking knife. It's almost kinda shame they have phased them out for more scandi-like blade profiles. The older models rule!
>>
>>65504036
>Mora isn’t allowed to make a better knife?
What about it is better? Worse grind, mediocre steel at bad hardness, worse grip just like the garberg, worse sheathe. It's worse than a $20 mora any day. Oh but thank god it's got an even thicker blade so the knife can cut even worse.
>>
>>65504066
I’d love a flat grind model, an M07 with flat grind would make a nice hunting knife.
>>65504168
>stop liking things I don’t like
Ok anon.
>>
>>65504307
Do you like carbon steel at 57 HRC with a 4.3mm thick blade and a chunky grind that can't slice properly? Do you like paying $200 for this bundle of bad decisions? It's no good for woodwork now that it has been ruined, it's worse for processing game, it's vastly inferior to other options at the pricepoint for retard shit like batonning and other useless meme shit youtubers do, so what is the point?

If you do like it you're a retard. You can keep liking it, that's fine. But it really throws everything good about the mora right into the trash.

>scandi grind
gone
>cheap
lol
>simple sheathe that can just be slipped on or off, but retains the knife well
how about we have a rattly cheapass thing that can't clip onto a belt, but oh thank god it has MOLLE compatibility, what do you mean you can just take a mora and clip it onto MOLLE and it works even better?!
>nonslip perfectly ergonomic grip
How about some slippery plastic with a bunch of ridges cut into it to try to fix this, that doesn't work.

Takes everything about the garberg that was trash and amplifies it. What a dogshit knife. The only good thing is it will part retards from their money. I cannot see any reason anyone would buy this over a fallkniven. Cost the same, get a better grip, better grind.

>>65500339
Can you tell me what kind of kukri this is or where i could get it?
>>
>>65506808
Oh, there you go. Magnacut gets cooler the more I learn about it. What makes stainless steel brittle is large chromium carbides because you need chromium for it to be stainless, but what Larrin did was add other elements that bond to the carbon, I think, so that all the 10% of the chromium remains "in solution" just for stainlessness and most of the wear resistance comes from smaller, harder Vanadium carbides. It's still unimpressive as far as edge retention goes, compared to other super steels, but it's way better than 420hc and it's got that super toughness while being stainless, and magnamax just adds more vanadium and stuff to be a more wear resistant super steel, but is less tough as a result. It's a true innovation in knife steel chemistry.
>>
and the new erasteel magnacut is cleaner and therefore tougher than old cpm magnacut
>>
>>65507568
Part of the appeal and justification, in my mind, for the price would be finally getting something in Magnacut for my collection. Seeing as how the cheapest Magnacut folders are generally ~$175 makes paying $200 more palatable

Edge retention doesn't worry me too much, I'm confident with my Sharpmaker. Haven't seen the need to move up to an adjustable-angle system yet
>>
>>65507609
When he says "unimpressive" he means compared to turbo-autism supersteels that all have crippling flaws that prevent them from ever catching on. Magnacut has very good edge retention.
