https://www.cnn.com/2026/09/09/politics/pickaxe-mountain-construction-us-underground-strikes-iran-vis
This article is mostly about Pickaxe Mountain, however:
>But there are signs the US is working to devise some means of striking those sites, even as US forces have largely focused on other types of targets during the six-month conflict with Iran.
>Four days before the US launched Operation Epic Fury, a program manager at an obscure Pentagon agency charged with combating weapons of mass destruction signed an emergency $1.2 million contract justification to repair a “unique subterranean test facility at White Sands Missile Range” in New Mexico for a “live-fire test designed to validate classified capabilities against rapidly emerging threats.”
>The document from the Defense Threat Reduction Agency was uploaded to a federal database on February 27 — the day before the war started.
>The memo said the “rapid test prep,” as another database labeled the contract awarded to Pate Construction, needed to be complete within two-to-three weeks due to “a time-sensitive national security directive.”

Kinda derailing but this post made me start wondering: if the US did hypothetically have a classified super-penetration bomb/missile with greatly improved performance compared with publicly known variants, would anyone be able to actually tell? Over-performing ground penetrating munitions can be chalked up to integrity of the underlying structure, soil/ground composition, multiple hits, etc. And unlike normal munitions, you're not really seeing the blast, just the aftermath - unless you're a dead man, that is. I suppose there are seismic measurements, but is that reliable? Since I presume the interior structure of whatever you're hitting will change those readings significantly, and might not have any relevance for a munition with similar payload but improved penetration
>>
>>65495995
Just send in a special forces team and kill everyone on site and rig it to blow. There are hundreds if not thousands of operators salivating at the chance to be let off the chain.
>>
>>65495995
i think mathematically there is a limit to bomb compared to depth inside of mountain that you can hide those labs. I think bombs give up before mountains do.
>>65496051
one iota in this tactic's favor
>>
>>65495995
there's is a limit but a functioning air force would use a different method called "interdiction" to stop further engineering operations in that area.
unfortunately since the USN air wings are disabled and the USAF too busy forward positioning their aircraft in missile fire to achieve a lower sortie rate than the IDF it is likely they will not even attempt such an operation
>>
>>65496051
If they could, they would. But it's a suicide mission, so no one would give the OK.
>>
>>65496131
Lmao you are absolutely seething.

Yes, but they’re just updated bunk busters.
>>65496011
>would anyone be able to actually tell?
Besides seismic data, which you addressed? No.
>>65496051
No need. We can already destroy their nuclear facilities like we did last year. No need for boots on the ground when we’re already winning with replaceable bombs and air power.
>>65496131
>NAFO actually believes this
>>
>>65495995
Yes, there are more capable bunker busters than the ones we have used. However they are very unlikely to actually see any use here because they are nuclear bombs that were developed for hitting extremely hardened underground targets during the Cold War. Beyond that there are next generation bunker busters in development, but iirc those contracts are fairly recent and likely haven’t produced anything resembling a useable system yet.
>>
The matured tech stemming from Project MARAUDER actually transfers the toroidal energy from the plasma ring to a pre-defined point through almost all solid surfaces minus the ones that have a tricky resonance similarity but in testing it was like some random fucking sodium crystal shit that's brittle as fuck and even if identified by an adversary it wouldn't work in subterranean structure construction. Literally being completely 100 with you retards right now just got laid off from Oak Ridge and am drinking away the night.
>>

Joke's on you, I like schizo posts intimating the US has scifi weapons tech

>Does the DoD/MIC actually have something better than bunker busters?
Yeah, we've had them for 81 years. We've got thousands of them just sitting around waiting for our Boomer politicians to stop being gay army-fetishists (a seemingly impossible task for such a degraded generation), and just use the weapon we all know could fix the world in a matter of minutes instead of fapping around with useless conventional forces.

what about drones? I know that sounds retarded, but a complex like this still needs ventilation, doesn't it? Couldn't ventilation tunnels provide ingress?

>>

>Does the DoD/MIC actually have
If they did, they're keeping it quieter than I'd think possible because if the whitehouse knew it existed then it would have been used in Iran already and Trump would have shitposted gloating about it.
I don't know the munitions company that wouldn't leak it to their golfing partners to get their weapons used and get new big orders as a result, so it can't be a commercial project either.

So I think that "enough dirt and rock" is currently the state of the art in defence technology.
And excavating that with sufficient high explosives and rapid strikes is probably the state of the art in offensive technology too.

How did tunnel rats even manage to capture Vietnamese networks when they were both worse-equipped, worse-trained, and up against people who were comparatively better quality than anything Iran could pay to stay in its theocracy?

Probably a rocket assisted GBU-57. The air force looked at a rocket assisted 2000lbs bomb for the F-35 called HVPW that supposedly had similar penetrating capabilities of a 5000lbs bomb but there's been no news on it.

iranians invented that basalt reinforced rebar thing for this reason anon
the only thing that can be seriously used to actually reach those two bases are only nukes im not even kidding and it has to be at least a 40kt warhead on a surface burst to maximize the crater size

>need something else
Lack if transport. You need to ferry from point A to B. Even a B2 max could carry like 2.
Unless the US has like a train of 20 B-2s making a beeline to target, I don't see that working.
Even theres 20 B-2s the operation risks are there too.
>>
>>65496051
>Just send in a special forces team and kill everyone on site
Special forces teams lose against a few platoons of militia, let alone the kind of guard force you'd put in a place like this.

>>65497292
>anything Iran could pay to stay
This may shock you, but religious fundamentalists can make pretty good fighters, and they're generally not in it for the money.
>>
>>65499807
That’s assuming all strikes need to be completed in one shot which I’m skeptical of. The target is stationary so there isn’t much they need to do other than aim for the same hole they already hit. As long as they can keep making the bombs they can keep burrowing in deeper and deeper. Also a subterranean test facility for bombs isn’t inherently for an underground nuke factory. It could be for the bunker that the new ayatollah (if he’s even alive) is being kept in or any number of things.
>>
>>65497292
>people who were comparatively better quality than anything Iran could pay to stay in its theocracy
americans really have a talent for this sort of endless delusion
didnt learn their lesson in vietnam
didnt learn their lesson in afghanistan
being given another opportunity to learn that same lesson in iran, anyone want to guess if they're going to learn it this time?

let me put it to you like this
hypothetically, if china somehow started bombing the u.s.
how many bombs would they need to drop before you decided to surrender the country to them, hand over the president and vice president to be executed, and become a chinese vassal state?
if they managed to assassinate some congressmen, how many would they need to assassinate before you decided to give up?

if you answered
>i'd never surrender to china no matter how much they bombed us
then congratulations, you now understand how the average vietnamese/afghan/iranian person feels
>>
>>65499805
the point is that nobody is gonna nuke iran anon

The Iranians didn't show any of that gusto against Iraq.
>>
So, was maneuver warfare just a fluke? Turns out if you build a strong enough fortress you really can't just counter it with air power.
Though I'm not sure why the US wouldn't target Iran's food and water supplies first: are those mountain fortresses self-sustaining?
>>
>>65499968
It would take a grand total of a month before we surrender. Know why? Because we have a traitorous corporate/kike class in the US who would sell their own countrymen into slavery as long as they could lord over their fellow slaves. The corporate kikes see China as an "emerging market", and have done so for the past few decades. Why fight on, when we could simply surrender and resume business as usual? Tim Apple needs more iphones from the factory in China. All the battery electric carmakers need chink batteries for their shitty smartphones on wheels. There are millions of Americans who would roll over and accept chink lordship out of convenience.
What I want means nothing. Most of my fellow Americans are cattle and would accept whoever rules over them next. Hell, half of America hates America and would support chink governance of the US.

Now keep in mind there was Iranian resistance to the ruling government, and there still is. But crucially, we did not support the resistance to the IRGC when they were being slaughtered back in January. The remaining Iranian resistance lives outside of Iran. Much like how anti-communist cubans moved out of Cuba, anyone who could leave Iran has done so over the years, so now the only people left there are the durka type theocrats who will be willing meatsacks for the chinks in a proxy war against the US.

Iran has shown without a doubt that "high speed, low drag" is effectively a WWI cavalry situation
>Iranian Navy fast attack craft all dumpstered by submarines and large, armored surface combatants
>US Navy's own fast attack craft prove too vulnerable to commit to the strait
>US air force unable to pull a Desert Storm against Iranian fortifications with more mature technology, is steadily losing air frames to attrition
>Iranian Air Force virtually useless
Welcome back, static warfare.

The Iraqis with their unrestricted warfare knew where to hit the Iranians where it hurt: the stomach. Even the staunchest fanatic is going to be more agreeable after a sufficient amount of starvation, especially if it's affecting his whole community, and I suspect if China were to go whole hog on the US they'd be targeting farms over cities just like an atomic General Sherman.
That's probably why the US thought Iraq was a huge deal during the Gulf War, because they still knew how to operate warfare with a premodern mindset which effectively counters most of ye old fanatics' strengths and were able to inflict disproportionate amounts of damage on their rival per their capabilities.

>does ineffectively using only long range bombardment prove that capturing objectives, securing territory, and even moving around at all in warfare was a fluke?

Outside of the obvious trolls I sometimes think that people think americans bickering with each other is as feisty as they get and they'd be glad to have some other big power come in and settle the score for them (because third worlders can't stop thinking like third worlders) without fully realizing how fuck-ass mad they get when someone ELSE fucks with them. A couple of buildings got knocked down, and in response they knocked down a couple of countries. Maybe a full on sustained attack from another power would cause some chaos and confusion, but once the morale boost from the patriotic country music kicks in they're going to be in the streets fucking baying for foreign blood to flow. The much vaunted rally-round-the-flag effect is not exclusive to mudhut dwellers.

Some of us aren't so fond of being ethnically replaced, being monitored and impovrished. Why should I not root for the abolition of this regime??
>>
>>65503698
You might be right.
Perhaps it's an understandable ignorance of the kind of culture that free speech creates.
Which is laughable on 4chan but such people tend not to suffer from an over-abundance of self-awareness.

>>65505281
>Why should I not root for the abolition of this regime??
Because every invader would be far worse.
We fix our own shit at the polls, or in court, or by getting involved in politics. You wouldn't understand because it's literally illegal to try in your totalitarian second-world shithole.
>>
>>65495995
Couldn't you drop MOPs down the same hole again?

Or drop a nuke down there. If anyone asks pretend the radiation comes from the Iranian centrifuges.
>>
>>65503698
Oohrah-ing when the country music starts playing is a liability when it gets you to waste your time, money, men and markers.

The ugly truth is america could handle a 9/11 every year and while it would be sad the country would still be better off compared to what the GWOT did. Constant threat inflation has led to the point where it's been more than 25 years now when GWB, on September 10th, published a strategy to confront China and you're again fighting bullshit wars in the ME.
>>
>>65508024
Is there any reason not to use a nuke against these facilities? I mean, the whole "nukes are a heckin' warcrime" thing is about hitting cities. A purely military facility way out in the mountains seems like a perfectly acceptable use for a nuclear weapon.
>>
>>65495995
Why not just bomb the construction site
>>
>>65503698
>without fully realizing how fuck-ass mad they get when someone ELSE fucks with them
Someone else has been pretending to be you to manipulate discourse, manipulating what news you see or don't see to manipulate discourse etc etc, on social media for the last 10 years. Yet no one is mad.
>>
>>65499968
>how many bombs would they need to drop before you decided to surrender the country to them, hand over the president and vice president to be executed, and become a chinese vassal state?
False premise, because those are not our demands and we've already killed their President and Vice President.
>>
>>65495995
Bunkers are pretty hard to siege but if you control the land around them you can always just wait them out. Collapse the tunnels with normal mining equipment, some Israeli bulldozers and C4 and just bury every tunnel/shaft you can find. Find out how they get water in there and shut it off. There will be a few ventilation shafts just drop some HE in there and blow them all.
>>
>>65499826
>Special forces teams lose against a few platoons of militia

Can you cite 3 occasions this occurred? The only time I can think of is black hawk down and that was much more than a few platoons plus involved helicopters crashing. An operator team would debark away from the site and arrive on foot.
>>
Why not just blow up the entrances?
